This hostel is an excellent alternative to staying in Yangshuo city. You are in the middle of an amazing landscape and managers and staff are really really nice.

Lots of outdoor activities in the surrounding areas.

I would recommend to anybody! The accomodations are clean, simple, and stylish. The setting is really one of a kind. I wish I could have stayed longer. Food was fantastic as well.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights during our visit to Yangshuo. The owners are very friendly, the food is fantastic and there is peace and quiet here. There is a nice courtyard and terrace which are great for meeting people or just relaxing and looking at the scenery. The owners and staff were very helpful in recommending activities to do ad helping us to arrange taxis and activities.

I would recommend bringing bug spray though as I got eaten alive.

There are only a few air conditioned rooms, so if you can´t sleep in the heat it is worth making the request for one.

There are lots of places to stay in Yangshuo, but it´s a noisy town with lots of hustle and bustle, so we were happy to be able to get away from it at the end of the day.

Also most of the biking or walking trails are nearer to the Giggling tree than to town!

All in all we loved our stay here and would definitely return!

Where to begin my praises for the Giggling Tree. Short of it is that we loved every minute of our stay here (four nights). The property itself is just gorgeous and beautifully refurbished. It is located in a tranquil village outside of the hustle and bustle of Yangshuo town (it's only a RMB 30 drive to the town and it takes maybe 10 minutes) amongst the hauntingly beautiful limestone mountains. The owners are delightful and the staff is equally delightful, super helpful and happy to be working at the Giggling Tree.

We had an upstairs room that did not have air conditioning, but our friend stayed in a downstairs room with air con. There are a couple of rooms with air con and I believe they are looking to add more. Did we need air con? It would have been nice on the first night, but after that, it was unnecessary because the fan and open window were sufficient. The room was absolutely massive. It was clean, but spartan (bed has mozzie net - key). The bed was firm (Chinese style), but very comfortable.

The food is fabulous. We ate there pretty much for all three meals. It was freshly made upon ordering and super good value for money.

The owners and the staff will help with all activity arrangements and with taxis, etc. They really could not be more helpful and they make everything so easy that all you have to do is enjoy yourself. The price for everything (room, food, activities) is unbeatable.

Most highly recommend this place and kids love it. Must do activities: hot air baloon, cooking class, float down the smaller river and lots of cycling.

Giggling Tree is situated in a village a short distance away from the main touristy area in Yangshou. The green surroundings, fresh air and friendly service from the giggling team makes your stay there 10 times better! Its THE place to chill out and space out... I was reluctant to leave the place and felt like i can stay there forever.. :) Dont miss it... :)

We booked as expats living and working in Guangzhou looking for a relaxing coutryside experiance for a few days. FIrst off, the guesthouse is asthetically lovely and our room was nice (even though there were only cold or blisteringly hot showers).

First problem: because of a lack of communication, we "missed" the pick-up arranged for us. The owner seemed quite upset about this and was cold towards us our entire stay (even though we paid for the pick-up that never came).

Second problem: the experiance on offer is a quiet relaxing retreat but with the frantic and unorganized activity of the staff, we felt in-the-way and rather out of place.

Third BIG problem: although the breakfast was good, the rest of the food was expensive and of poor quality (from the perspective of someone who eats fantastic Chinese food on a daily basis in Guangzhou). We were looking forward to having crawfish, but were dismayed at the price of 50 yuan/ 500g. We bought 2 KG's of crawfish from a local fisherman later for 55 yuan. Quite extortionate considering the hassle having to go into Yangshuo for each meal.

All-in-all, the rooms met our expectations, but things didn't seem quite right staying there and although I love the idea of a farmhouse retreat, it just wasn't executed properly.

While travelling (through big cities) in China, we heard about "The Giggling tree"...being a beautiful restored guesthouse, just outide touristy Yangshuo. Only opened since April 2007. So we decided to go and have a look.

It was marvellous....FINALLY we found the real rural countrylife, in a beautiful setting of old farmerhouses, renovated and painted in mediterrenean colours. Bougainvilles, a splendid courtyard, a great terrace overlooking the Karstmountains and the ricefields. And above all: big, clean and tastefully decorated rooms. Something very different from a lot of standard hotels in China.

The owners, a Dutch couple with a lovely baby worked as tourleaders before and knew a lot about the area. The staff was very helpfull and one of them even taught Kung Fu on request!!

Instead of staying 3 days, we hang out for a week; relaxing, cycling, walking, laughing, jumping in the nearby river. In the evenings enjoying delicious Chinese food. If you ever go there, don't forget to try their speciality of riverlobster/crawfish or lemonchicken.

Chatting and drinking with other guests in the courtyard at night; it was just sooo special. We felt like a family, meeting great people travelling the world.

It was splendid to have such a relaxing time again after travelling for a while.

This guesthouse, owned by a Dutch couple, is just outside Yangshuo, away from the crowded city centre. The view from the terrace on the front side on the Karst mountains is beautiful, especially with sunset. After that, you can enjoy excellent Chinese food in the courtyard while charing your experiences with other guests or the owners. The owners know the area very well. (Before they both have worked as tour leaders in China.) After travelling for three weeks in China, it was a relief to be in a place where we could benefit from the best from China whitout the disadvantages of poor hygiene and food with bones;-) The hospitality from the staff and owners makes you feel like home. If you want to visit Yangshuo, definitly stay at The Giggling Tree.

After traveling for more than ten months, we were looking for a nice and quite place to stay in the Chinese countryside. We found the perfect place to relax while enjoying great views and surroundings. The Giggling Tree is a good spot for hiking, mountainbiking, reading and relaxing. The warm and enthousiastic owners are former adventurious travelguides and are a great source of practical help. The laidback atmosphere made us stay longer than planned, we didn't even find time to test their dvd room. The Giggling Three has 20 rooms which are bright, clean and nicely decorated. The food and service are good. We specially recommand this place for couples and children, since it's a quiet spot. It's only a twenty minutes bike ride to the Yangshuo town. But who wants to be in a town when the countryside is so stunning?

This particular morning we decided to go for a 45min walk on trails leading through the hills just behind our hotel.

If we just keep turning Left then left again we would come back to the main road.

Not as easy as it sounds.

After 2 hrs we came out at a small village, miles from our hotel, continuing to walk in the general direction of town we found "The Giggling Tree".

Sitting on the shady terrace, sipping cool fresh orange juice, we talked to our hosts, Paulien and Pelle.

After a wonderful lunch, Pelle showed us the guest house and grounds, all new and very well done.

We wished we had known about their lovely little retreat, just 100 mteters off the main road but the best we could do was to visit for lunch and fresh juice a couple of more times during our stay in the area.

Great Food, Excellent Hosts, set in a Real village just far enough off the road to enjoy the flavor of country life.
