I'm writing this from the club room, as I have just checked out. Stayed here only 2 nights, in a deluxe club twin. Booked via the hotel website only a day in advance and the rate was still only 200AUD a night. Brilliant!
Many staff have basic English skills, which helped a lot when trying to communicate, and the service was top notch.
The private check-in and club room was large, efficient, friendly and the buffer food was good. Well worth the extra expense.
Room was spacious, with a 2 seater couch, twin beds which were beautifully soft, large desk to work from and big bathroom with separate bath and shower.
Since the opening of this hotel we have stayed in this hotel a few times each year whenever we visit Xiamen for business purposes. It is by far the best hotel in Xiamen.
We stay in the club executive rooms on the top floors where we can enjoy the club facilities.
The staff in this hotel from the front door to the cleaning ladies is always friendly with a smile. The door men even recognize us when we arrive for a new stay. This never happens to us in any other hotel in China.
The best we like about this hotel is the design which still looks good and well kept a few years after opening (this is usually not the case in Chinese hotels).
In the club floors each room has a different layout and is decorated differently. The rooms are large enough and the bathrooms are well designed and always clean. It is the only hotel in China where I like to take a bath.
The restaurants are good enough to keep you in the hotel. We prefer the Chinese restaurant altough when eating alone, the Western buffet is a better choice.
The hotel is most suitable for business travellers, since its location is in the business end of town. For tourist travellers I would recommend the Holiday Inn or the Lujiang which are both downtwn.
Definitely beyond my expectation. Service was excellent, all the staff were very friendly and were always smiling, the hotel and the room was very clean and fresh, the bed were exceptionally comfortable. Walking distance from the lake, the area of the hotel is very pleasant. Highly recommended!!!!!!
Stayed at the Sofitel just for one night on a recent trip to Xiamen.
Having stayed at the Sheraton as well, I believe the Sofitel comes out on top in the sum of all things. The rooms are equally great at both properties, but when you add the superior service and attention to details, the Sofitel wins. Fresh flowers everywhere, great common areas and a great location.
An espresso to replace the regular coffee was served free of charge at breakfast, a huge plus for any caffeine junkie.
Eggs were made to order and to perfection. Over easy, soft and that's how they arrived.
Room service was so quick and the food arrived fresh and piping hot. On request, the desert was served 20 minutes later, again, fresh and appetizing.
I did not eat at the buffet this time, travelling alone I did not feel like it, but I did take a look and it was stunning. Huge selection and very well presented. You can see the french influence here.
In the lobby is a little french cafe, with a great selection of fresh croissants and other staples of a french bakery. Huge tea selection.
Efficient and helpful staff make this property the clear winner in Xiamen. The assistant F&B Manager, Angel Zhao, was of particular help. Excellent english and a nice personality.
Stayed here last week on business. Very chic and modern hotel with good service. Great location to walk over to the Marco Polo area for good western-style restaurants.
Tips:
-If you want bottled water at breakfast, bring one of the free bottles in your room. They charge 40RMB for a bottle of Evian in the restaurant.
-For cheap internet (if you didn't bring your laptop) check out the internet cafe a block down near the drug store.
-Don't forget your card that says "Please take me to the Sofitel" in Chinese that they give you in the hotel. This way you can get back to the hotel since NO taxi drivers speak English.
Probably would try the Marco Polo next time 'round.
Good location close to business district and a number of lakeside restaurants within walking distance if you need them. Very spacious clean room well serviced by friendly and obviously well trained staff and Ceasars on 3 everything you will need for breakfast and outstanding buffet dinner. Full of praise
I spent 5 very enjoyable days (and nights) at the Sofitel.Comfortable and quiet executive level room, well serviced and with excellent food at Caesar's on 3.Very good and professional staff.Having stayed at the Sheraton last year I prefer the area of the Sofitel (both hotels have similar facilities and standards).
Stayed here for my first business trip to the city, and used our corporate rate. The hotel is very new and nicely fitted with modern decor. The staff was very helpful.
The breakfast buffet had plenty of choices. I would highly recommend a stay here.
This is a modern, high-rise hotel in the downtown area of Xiamen.
The hotel is built and operated to a high standard. The entrance lobby is imposing, mostly marble and glass, with modern furniture.
The bedroom was very comfortable, with high quality darkwood fittings and a well-equipped office area. One minor gripe was that there could have been more drawers.
The bathroom was particularly good, with a large bath, marble fittings and a separate walk-in shower.
Breakfast was pretty good; I didn’t eat any other meal there.
This is a very good, modern hotel, designed for the needs of the business traveller. It is excellent value for money and I recommend it highly.
Stayed there for 3 nights while on business trip in Xiamen - paid just under US$100 per night (corporate rate). Very new, clean facilities with friendly and helpful staff. This hotel is definitely created with "Western" travelers in mind.
Room was nicely decorated, and I love how they divided the bathroom and bedroom with wall of glass + curtains. Decor was simple and modern. Slight problem with the shower/ drainage - it tends to overflow a little to the bathroom floor if I take a 20mins+ shower. No noise issue at all.
Complimentary buffet breakfast with both chinese and western choices - much better than the standard fare at most Chinese hotels. I'd dinner at the restaurant while they were having a Thai food fair and the food was decent. The pastry shop downstairs have pretty decent cakes/cookies. Great service throughout the hotel.
Stayed at the Sofitel for a week. Hotel room was very clean. Very nice modern decor. Staff were very service oriented and friendly. Breakfast spread had good variety. There is a glass window between the room and the bathroom. For privacy, there is a window blind which you can let down.
Overall, a very very pleasant stay.
I would definitely stay there again when I visit Xiamen.
For my second trip to Xiamen I chose to stay at the Sofitel Hotel. The overall look of the hotel is really nice. I dont remember if I had a standard room or one step up from standard but I enjoyed my room.
There was an earlier post about the bathroom and yes there is a beaded curtain or something like that instead of a door. Weird but since I stayed alone it was no big deal.
Very comfy bed, great internet and desk, but the desk chair was really hard. I eneded up sitting on a pillow while working at the desk.
I didnt have much of a view but unless your staying at the Marco Polo with a lake view, there isnt much to see anyway.
Breakfast buffet was excellent, good mix of west & east.
I was able to finish up early and went down to the lake side where I found a great coffee and snack place called the Coffee Club (I think thats it.) Bring your computer if you have wireless adapter cause they provide it free and let you sit as long as you want. Third floor is non-smoking. Plus they have great outdoor seating.
This is a standard business hotel -- possibly a little out of the way (a few kilometres from the centre) but comfortable and predictable. Our only criticism would be the eccentricity of the room furnishings -- modern and impracticable (e.g., armchairs with only one arm). The bathroom was almost beside the bed -- and only a translucent curtain separated the two. The carpet was quite stained. On the other hand, the front desk people were very helpful, the business centre was impressively efficient, and the hotel was located quite close to two of Xiamen's top seafood restaurants.
Been traveling to Xiamen for about two years now. Stayed at Sofitel Plaza three times, with colleuges wo have stayed there as well. All amenities are very modern, Food is Excelent. I recommend stayign on a club floor if the company, or your pocket, can afford it.
Arrived tired about 8.30 at night and was speedily checked in
Got to my room and found as always the normal high standards I expect of Sofitel hotels
After a quick wash and brush up I made myself down to the European restaurant where I was shown to a window seat overlooking the pool
Food and service were second to none and very, very friendly
Took my time over some basic Italian fare and headed for the bar
Well the bar is just far from anything you'd expect from a hotel, lovely big chairs to chill out in and a great selection from the bar
Breakfast is a standard buffet or personal choice but the buffet is good enough with Western and Chinese offerings
All I can say is that I have stayed in my favorite Sofitel which is the Royal Lagoon in Dongguan but the Sofitel Plaza is just as good and for a city centre hotel takes you away from the days business stress and hustle and bustle and lets you unwind
Beautifull designer hotel in xiamen's financial district but a few kilometers out of the historic centre. Staff is very friendly and do their best to assist. Overall there always seems to be some lack of managment at sofitel hotels compared to some other five star hotel chains. Anyway overall a beautifull hotel probably the nicest in xiamen.
This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. This is like the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Their lobby is very modern and so are their rooms. The breakfast buffet needs a bit upgrading, but nonetheless serves good food. need to add a vegetarian section. The staff are friendly, and way go beyond the call of duty.

I have stayed at Sofitel Xiamen Many times. I visit the factory just down the road from there and it has always been a great place.
Food is great! No need to go outside, but you can walk to western style foods within 5 minutes. All staff very helpful and willing to help.
English speaking service all the time.
With Club room, free drinks during happy hour.
Alway clean and friendly.
