We recently stayed with our family in Xiamen for 1 week at this hotel. We were very impressed. It is rated as (I think) a 3 star Chinese hotel ... not certain this rating system really means very much. Regardless, we were very happy with this hotel. It appears to be a more recent hotel, it is right on a lake with a walking park that goes all the way around the lake, there are a few ok chinese restaurants within walking distance, and it is very safe and secure.
The rooms are a good size, we stayed in a room with 2 twin beds, which was ok for our young family of 4 (we have 2 young girls). The bathroom was clean and modern. Overall, good rooms.
I found the service very good, everyone was very friendly and responded to all our needs. We also used their travel service to book flights and rooms in Beijing with no problems.
The room rate we paid was around 350 Chinese dollars per day, which is pretty good. The room rate did not include breakfast. However, we were provided with free breakfast coupons for 2 adults every evening. The breakfast was ok, both North American fare, but mostly Chinese food. Overall ok. The coffee sucks, but that is true everywhere.
The location was fine for us. It is probably not near "downtown" Xiamen, but not certain that really matters. Taxi's are cheap and plentiful.
The temple in Xiamen is very nice, and walking around Gulong Yu is a nice day trip as well.
