It is so wonderful to just sit at the terrace and chill out. You are so close to the mountains, you feel you can almost touch them! The place has a rustic charm and the owner is very friendly. What surprised me is the little luxury of having a heated mattress pad. After a day walk, it was nice to crawl into a warm bed to soothe the tired muscles :)
A highlight of travelling to to the Yannan Province of China is definitely a visit to the Tiger Leaping Gorge. For the active and adventurous, hiking the high trail of the gorge is not to be missed. A pleasant and timely place to stop is about six hours on, at the Half Way Guest House. The rooms are amazing, with incredible views. They are clean, and surprisingly warm considering the winter and altitude. There is 24-hour running hot water and electricity. The food and drinks are great, and very affordable. The staff works hard, even with limited communication due to language barriers. There is no better place to stay in gorge. After a good night's sleep, the next highlight is about two more hours down the trail. The descent to the river where legend holds the tiger leaped is worth the time and entrance fee charged by various Naxi family members along the way.
