Tianjin is not a prime destination in China, by any means. The air is bad and so much construction, like most urban areas in the country. The Renaissance, though, is fantastic. At no extra charge, I was given a suite on a high floor overlooking the vast city (not that you can see much of it through the haze/smog). High-speed internet was a little sluggish (there is a $13 charge per day) and bathroom could use some touch-up, but beds, TVs, room service, restaurant (amazing buffet!), front desk were excellent. If you are stuck in Tianjin, this is pretty good place to be.

Stayed here for 5 nights whilst on business in Tianjin. Hotel lobby spacious & modern. Check-in staff friendly & efficient. A minor glitch with the printer when checking out very early in the morning, but resolved fairly quickly.

Stayed on the executive floor & the bedroom was great; clean, spacious & comfortable with high speed internet access.

Ate breakfast in the executive lounge. Choice was limited but it met my needs. On my first night I ate in the Renaissance Cafe & opted for the buffet. Choice was good & quality acceptable. On the last evening a colleague & I dined in the Dynasty Restaurant, the food was delicious & the waitresses very attentive.

The bar was adjacent to the lobby. It lacked atmosphere & the service was pretty slow, but that is my only complaint about the Hotel.

The staff were very helpful and regularly aided with directions to restaurants & the arranging of taxis including my taxi to Beijing airport which they included in the Hotel bill avoiding any problems in relation to communication or payment at the other end.

The Hotel 'seemed' fairly central with a department store less than 5 mins walk away, along with a few shops, bars etc. However, Tianjin is quite wide spread & I reckon the Hotel was probably a 15 min taxi ride from the main city centre, but as taxis are readily available & very reasonably priced this did not pose a problem.

There is a construction site right opposite the Hotel & the surrounding area was not particularly nice, however once inside the Hotel you tend to forget about the temporary (hopefully) eyesore outside!
