The hotel has recently been rebranded to the Copthorne Hotel, although there are still many traces of the old Equatorial brand, making the change look a little half hearted. The hotel is not as classy as it's former sister hotel in Shanghai and is much a 3.5 star tourist hotel. Location is spot on, right opposite Carrefour department store and surrounded by shopping malls. Rooms are large, maybe renovated in the early 2000's and simple in decor. Robes and slippers are provided, corridors and lobby are well maintained. The pool area including male only jacuzzi are great.
I had a chance to stay in this hotel for 2 nights in Nov. 2007. It is new hotel with big and comfortable rooms. You can have a luck to stay in the room with the sea view.
The service is very good and the rooms are very clean. The hotel stuff speak English.
And you can enjoy choice of tasty Chinese, European and US breakfast.
The hotel is in great location close to the city center and shopping area.
Arrived on a trip around china stopping off at some places, was picked up at the airport , good smiling and warm greeting , whisked off quickly to waiting car and a enjoyable 30 minute drive to hotel, quick check in and up to room, nice and warm when got into room great view of the sea and seashore (request a high floor room at the back of the hotel, had breakfast on the 23rd exec floor lounge, good selection of food and ok service, nice views over the sea when eatting breakfast, second day tried the coffee shop, has improved from last time I was here, good selection of food and service was ok, enough for a good start in the morning, didnot try the restaurants at night , overall a nice stay in a good location, hear they will be big changes in future, will look forward to come back
I do recommend this hotel if you have buisness or travels in the Qingdao area.
It's about 35 minutes drive from the airport. They have a shuttle bus that runs a limited schedule, but they will arrange for a car and driver to meet you at the airport.
The staff spoke English and I have no complaints about the service.
Rooms are standard chinese 4-star rooms. Spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The beds were firm, but not the brick-hard beds found in many Chinese hotels. A good nights sleep.
It's two blocks from the water and is in a business area. For you shoppers there is an upscale department store next door, a Carrefour across the street, and a Jusco down the road + much more.
My only complaint is with the food. I was dissappointed. Even the Chinese food was mediocre for a chinese 4-star hotel.
I will consider staying here again on my next trip.
It's not as plush as a 5-star, but it is in a very good location in the "new city" area near the water and across the street from a Carrefour, has good views, and the staff - including the business center - is always helpful.
The lobby has 2 wings: a coffee-house/breakfast/lunch/dinner area open 24 hours, and a piano lounge; both have excellent outside views.
The health club has weights, swimming, a sauna, and jacuzzi.
I was there in 2005 for 12 days and again now in 2006 for 14 days, 2-days gone, then another 3 days. It feels like home (with amenities!).
