Great breakfast decent room, good value.

We often stay at the hotel when in China, and I agree with man of the comments concerning breakfast - one of the best anywhere I stay. The check in staff are efficient and extremely friendly, and they are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The rooms are appropriate vs. the price you pay, and even verge on the nice side of the equation.

Folks in Qingdao are open minded and you should be warned to avoid the Misty Flower unless you are looking for a seduction experience, you don't have to go to the floor if you're not looking to be tempted so if you go be warned that you will be presented with extremely beautiful girls who will if allowed do their best to seduce you into spending money for their special massages. Didn't try, but I have not doubt that if you give them the chance they will separate you from your money...

There are other bars in the hotel that are average, but get the job done if all you are looking for is a drink with friends after a hard days work. The surrounding area has a number of restaurants and bars so there's no problem if you don't find something to your liking at the hotel. You can even get an honest foot massage across the street without much of the pressure of having one of the special products offered at the hotel. I never have experienced someone knocking on my door, and suspect that if that happens you have given some indication that your are interested.

Overall a place worth staying if you are interested in the American standard and willing to pay a little bit more for it.

I have stayed at this wonderful hotel many, many times. I should have written a review long ago. Years ago, this hotel used to be a tremendous value, but even with the higher rate today and a strong Yuan against the US Dollar, it still is a very good value.

This hotel is in the heart of the newer area of Qingdao. Being known at one point in history as the port city run by Germans after the Opium Wars, this city has German-style architecture. Indeed, the Crowne Plaza is steps from a fantastic German restaurant, Monnemer Eck.

The Crowne Plaza will be the center of the universe for all things Olympic in Qingdao (the sailing events attached to the Beijing Olympics are to be held in Qingdao).

It is an excellent hotel with fantastic furnishings, large rooms, and best of all, a WONDERFUL staff. I have only stayed on the club level, which is home to two-room mini-suites that offer the best in accommodation. Western-style beds and mattresses (read: softer than usual in Asia), confortable work spaces, and very quiet rooms make for a great stay. The club staff will go to great lengths to ensure your stay is well-enjoyed and confortable.

The food is some of the best in China- breakfast in the club or in Cafe Asia is very good. Lunch buffet in Cafe Asia is unsurpassed. Cafe Asia offers Mongolian, Thai, Brazilian, Chinese, Japanese (sushi), and Indian. The Indian is some of the best I've ever had anywhere in the world. Cafe Asia is a little expensive, but with the very high quality of the food and the staff, you won't need to eat dinner! A menu is also available at lunch, but who can order a club, when there's self-designed Mongolian to be had!?!

The one place that the restaurant fails to achieve its highest marks is in the Italian restaurant, Murino's. Murino's is usually good, but not as it once was. Good wines values can usually be found, but frequently there are value-priced wines on the menu that are not available. Murano's is a beautiful restaurant, and when it is on its game, it is quite nice, but once in a while, (perhaps when chef Giancarlo is out of the kitchen?) it falls short of expectation.

On more than one occasion, we've held meetings in one of the Crowne Plaza's meeting facilities, and each time, the staff went well beyond the call of duty to ensure success.

In all respects the Crowne Plaza Qingdao is an excellent place to conduct business, spend a long weekend, take in some nearby shopping, good German food, and some of the nicest sea-side walks in all of China.

I am a frequent visitor to Qingdao. Lived there for several years and still return. The Crowne Plaza is wonderful. You are right down town where you can walk to several top shopping places. There is always something to do. Marilyn at Crowne Plaza is wonderful and can help make your stay comfortable, wonderful and glad you were there.

This is pre-Olympics countdown and the CP was marked as not available on hotel website.

Phoned and booked over the phone, reservation was flawlessly handled by Rose, including hold for late 9pm check-in on 25June.

Was upgraded to a corner room (2213) with seaview.

Breakfast was good, and the Filipino supervisor Hermis was so cheery : just the kind of happy face you want to see early morning!

Small flaws like (a) clogged up driveway. Then again, the shopping arcade is anchored by Prada so you'd expect plenty of BMWs and Mercs. (b) the Lounge on level 2 was a disappointing corridor lined with padded cubes.

Hardware is easy to upgrade and replace (just need the $), here the gems are in the staff - helpful, cheerful; each handling his/her job well.

Highly recommended. - G. Tan (Singapore)

We booked this property via Dragonair Holidays for we were told Shangrila Hotel was full.

We arrived at this property without much high expectations for in the past three years, I didn't have any satisfactory experience with Crowne Plaza in Europe or East/West Coast USA. I was hoping that Crowne Plaza in China can offer a new dimension. But, it was an disappointment.

Location - the merit of the property. It is right in the center of the City east busy shopping and business center. Jusco -- a Japanese Chain department store with supermarket and foodcourt -- is right by the hotel. There are restaurants and shoppings at v. reasonable price around the hotel.

The lobby was cramped and poorly designed, a few couches placed right in front of the revolving door in the main entrance.

Rooms -- The standard room is dated and small, even smaller than a standard room of an equivalent grade hotel in Osaka, Japan. Surprised =( The ventilation in the room was terrible, it's suffocating and too warm for a spring night with an outdoor temperature of 12 Celsius. The technician came by but couldn't help but to suggest us to sleep with an open window or change room. The electric socket was also not working. The heating element of the electric wataer jug was so rusted.like a piece of salvage from the sea. Some other reviews also indicated problems with room.

We were changed into a deluxe room after midnight for the traffic noise was a nuisance with the open window. The room's much spacious and cooler. Still dated without much view. We at least can sleep.

The socket by the working desk in both rooms allow plugs from different countries, no adapter is needed. Bathrobes and slippers are provided.

Bathroom Amenities -- as earlier reviews indicated, the shampoo /bath gel are of low quality and the packaging are v. dated of those in the 1980's offered in China. I assume all Crowne Plaza offer Molton Brown toiletries as in Europe. The shower head is weak and needed a change.

The rooms do need a face=lift refurbishment to stay competitive with the rivals for the Olympics.

Service -- The housekeeping staff on the 24h floor should be commended, the service was swift and detailed.

The concierge desk should have more pamphlets for local tours. Info was only given verbally. English tourist info was scarce. We asked for restaurants suggestion, there was none.

Even you are a Priority Club member, all guests still have to request for newspaper to the room, or else it won't be delivered to the room.

Internet access in the room is free -- a merit.

The lounge offers v. limited drinks and service.

The buffet breakfast is good with a good variety of western and Chinese choices.

Overall --- this is not a 5-star hotel, it is a marginal 4-star.

I will stick with Shangrila in Qingdao.

When we moved to Qingdao nearly two years ago, we spent our first five weeks in an apartment suite in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Qingdao. Our three daughters loved the experience: the pool, bowling alley and attentive staff who soon knew each of our girls by name helped our time there become extra special. Over the course of our tenure in this city we continue to enjoy dining at Cafe Asia on the second floor, and recommend this hotel to any one coming to Qingdao.

The decor is now getting a bit dated, but the service of their well trained and well mannered staff, coupled with good management personel, makes the Crowne Plaza the place to meet in the Sailing City.

I stayed at the Crown Plaza on 2 business trips. It's my favorite place to stay in Qingdao mainly because of its fabulous location right in the center of town and next door to a shopping center with a great Japanese supermarket. Good rooms and service...a keeper.

Not uncomfortable, but considering the festive nature of the city, it is not the best reflection. Service is as expected, somewhat slow and occasionally misunderstood. Rooms are comfortable but dated. Beds feel like little more then plywood with a couple of sheets. Breakfast was good, but the opening time of 6:30 am is too late. Overall, I would suggest this hotel receive 3-1/2 stars out of 5.

Don't know, what the lady from New York experienced here, but she sounds somewhat paranoic. I wasn't in the bar (BTW not operated by Crown Plaza, Nevertheless, I was in the lounge, and also there, the very nice servers where wearing nice kimonos and only wanted to serve a drink and nothing else), but I took the massage service.

Yes, I had some problems with my back from carrying around my computer. Nothing sexual, only medical massage. I ordered the simple massage for 260 RMB / 45 min. The lady always tried to sell me additional Oil-Massage for 360 RMB / 45 min. Hey, you can't use litres of oil worth 100 RMB... The masseuse asked me if I want then 60 min or 90 min, but here massage was so bad and painful, I prefered to stop the torture after 30 min. Not recommendable at all and much too expensive.

For the rest, the hotel is really nice, service is ok, breakfast in the executive lounge very good. Only problem (as every where in China), english knowledge even from hotel staff only basic and sometomes difficult to make you understand or understand what they want from you.

If you are tourist and like souvenirs like shells or so, don't buy at the beach, nice shells start at 100 RMB. Close to the main railway-Station there is a building with a KFC in the groud floor. This is the department store were the average local shops. Go to the top floor, there they have a small corner with some souvenirs, but at local prices. Same nice shell at 15RBM instead of 120RMB.

Am I the only one offended by the on-site brothel??? I know this is China, but come on…this is a Crowne Plaza! One night after dinner, my female coworker & I thought we’d have a nightcap….so we went to the Misty Flower within the Crowne Plaza. Bad idea! This is a brothel, not a regular bar! When we walked in, we were greeted by very “friendly” women & escorted to the “bar”. It was a bar full of women, wearing evening gowns with very high slits that swivel in their bar stools & pose on command. Egh! We literally ran out & recessed to our rooms. Back in my room, I was further shocked to learn that their turn down service also included a list of available, late-night, in-room “massages”. It made me feel dirty just having that card sitting on my bed. Another co-worker (male) had an experience with a persistent “masseuse” who knocked on his door in the middle of the night & tried to get in. Anyway…

Other than the above issue, this hotel is very pleasant. The rooms are spacious, clean & homey. The restaurants are actually good. The gym & pool are ok, though a bit dark. The location is also convenient. The staff is competent.

There are some questionable, designer shops in the lobby, including Prada. I have no idea if anyone shops here & imagine that these labels are here only by way of some shady biz dev deal.

So…yes, I’ll stay here again (& continue to send complaints over to Crown Plaza about the naughty & offensive businesses). I would give them 4 or 5 stars if not for such on-site businesses.

This place is excellent - great service, good location, fantastic food and (if you upgrade from a "standard room") a nice selection of premium rooms.

The breakfast selection is superb, the Italian restaurant maybe the best we have had in China and the Asian restaurant at night has an amazing choice of Brazilian BBQ, Chinese and Thai mixture - all faultless.

We had booked a Deluxe King size room but that was unavailable and we were upgraded to a Junior Clun Suite - very nice. We managed a peek into a Standard room and it was rather small and dark.

A small word of warning - there is some construction work on the seaview side (no big issue of noise really) and there is a surcharge to use the swimming pool!!!

This is a great place - recommended.

(Sorry about my english) CP in a perfect location even if Qingdao has three city centers. Very good view. At the moment a lot of construction as the city will have the sailing olympics in 2008 (the olympics can destroy every city). Service at the CP is very good. Nice indoor pool (sometimes filled with children) but usually you are alone. Breakfast buffet is one of the best I have ever seen. Included in Club Price. Club suite is very big and with a perfect view from the 28th floor. Bus just in front of hotel and easy to use (2 yuan in the city). Beaches 15 min bus ride, but dont expect anything spectacular.

i LOVED this hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the staff courteous and professional. The breakfast buffet was amazing and all for about $130/night. Its surrounded by great shopping, and an awesome seafood restaurant just down the block. I would not stay anywhere else while in Qingdao.

Had a couple of nights in one of the Executive Suites.

Got a deal at just over 100USD /night.

Service was excellent, room was sensational dining was a pleasure.

Rooms are massive, bathroom was bigger than many standard hotel rooms.

I will definitely go here again.

probably the best hotel I've stayed at.

Cheers

We had the pleasure of 9 nights at the Crowne Plaza in Qingdao. We chose this hotel based on a tripadvisor review. We stayed on the Club Floor which included a daily breakfast (EXCELLENT!) and laundry service. Our room was LARGE with a separate living room and bedroom.

The hotel is contemporary in design and SPOTLESSLY clean. The staff are polite and professional. The location is close to the large modern shopping centers.

The hotel restaurants were over priced with mediocre quality....But, the breakfast was excellent. There is a terrific Chinese restaurant across from the hotel called Victoria...we ate there several times.

Qingdao is a lovely city with friendly people and home of the 2008 Olympic sailing competitions. The taxi drivers are certifably INSANE! The city has polluted air. Go east, outside of town to explore beautiful seaside villages and pretty beaches.

I have traveled to Qingdao 5 times in the past year and have stayed at both the Shangri-la and Crowne Plaza hotels. On the whole, the staff, rooms and lobby lounge at the Shangri-la are nicer than the Crowne Plaza, but the Crowne Plaza club level rooms are the best overall value.

The king suites at CP are large, comfortable, and well furnished. Amenities include free soft drinks from the mini bar, a daily laundry allowance that allowed me to return home with a suitaces of CLEAN luggage at no extra charge, a decent breakfast buffet and a generous happy hour of drinks and quick bites in the early evening. The club lounge has a good meeting room (although privacy is somewhat limited as those sitting outside in the lounge can hear everything). The hotel is right next door to Jusco, a large mall that should have anything you need, and a quick walk from many restuarants and shops (hotel food is only so-so and why visit China if not to explore?).

The downside? Too few elevators (it can be a loooong wait), a bit impersonal (they will know you in the club lounge after a few days, but the hotel on the whole is a bit big and anonymous) and no really comfortable public lounge space. Also, the standard rooms are a bit worn down. I would reccommend the Shangri-la over the CP if you are staying in a standard room.

Happy travels, and feel free to post questions and I will reply.
