This hotel is quite famous among tourists. Situated in the centre of the ancient city of Ping Yao it is very easy to walk in any direction and come back by foot. Rooms have a hydrolic heating which was very nice as temperature drops to +10C. We spent 2 nights there. Staff and owners are very helpful. We ordered train tickets on the day we arrived and get them upon departure. Food is good at local restaurant - try fried eggplants.
Very nice place I recommend to stay there.
* For those who never travelled by train in China - try to travel by plane. Trains between small towns are quite old and dirty. People allowed to smoke in trains plus huge queues before train stations turns a journey to a nightmare.
I immediately loved it. The service was really good (they speak good enough English), the food was excellent, and the building, what can I say but unique. Imagine, a real Siheyuan, it was like sleeping in history (with all the modern acomodation: AC / Wi-Fi etc.) I have done a 1 month tour in China, and that place was from far the best. So don’t miss it!
A small courtyard hotel in traditional style on one of the main streets in Pingyao. Facilities may be limited but the character more than makes up for that. Staff friendly and helpful with reasonable English. Food good. Recommended if you want to experience China rather than stop in a tourist bubble.
A rare opportunity to stay in a beautifully preserved and partly modernised hotel in the middle of an ancient city. Rooms are spotless, air cond, western w.c. with shower over a unique timber tub which can be plugged like a bath. A charming 2 story building with entry via 2 central couryards from the main street. Excellent food for dinner and breakfast in the restaurant at the entrance. We (3 couples) sat outside our rooms after dinner and drank several cold beers (cheap) in the warm summer night before retireing to our rooms for a peaceful nights sleep with no noise at all.
Not the best hotel in the world , but definately a magical and rare experience not to be missed. We loved it and would stay there again.
