Moon Inn in a small, clean and inexpensive inn located on a quiet lane of the old city in Lijiang, China. Staff are friendly and helpful and the owner speaks excellent English. When we stayed there (Chinese Holiday time) rooms were between 200 - 300 rmb which was great value for the money. Rooms were small but did have free wireless. Breakfast was available for 10 rmb per person!

Because we extended our stay in Lijiang, and the Moon Inn was fully booked for the extra days that we wished to stay, we also stayed at Dongba House Inn and Guangfang Villas (see separate reviews). We would definitely come back to Lijiang again and we would definitely stay at the Moon Inn for our entire stay on our next visit.

We highly recommend this inn and believe that you won't be disappointed! When booking, ask for a larger room (if available) as rooms at this inn are of various sizes.

My wife and I stayed three nights at the Moon Inn this past February. Great location away from the craziness of the main lanes in the old town. Had the place mostly to ourselves - great fun! Took the room with the view overlooking the town on the 2nd floor - old town is lit up at night. Desk staff was helpful (very basic English): free pick up at airport, arranged a driver to TLG & ride back to airport. Breakfast was filling especially fresh Naxi bread. (each morning we ended up at the pizza joint down the alley with the Lavazza espesso maker - worth every yuan for freshly brewed coffee in the middle of Yannan!).

I discovered the Moon Inn two years ago while taking walk in Lijiang, and ended up staying four nights. It's owned by the Li family and managed by Li Ling, the eldest daughter who speaks excellent English. The family is tremendous and the rooms and location are among the best in Lijiang. What a find. I checked out several hotels and found none in Lijiang that compared with this for the price, family atmosphere etc. I'd definitely stay here again.

After you leave the Moon Inn, you realize you had the opportunity to see Lijiang as a quiet and peaceful place from the windows in Room 201, one of the Inn's best rooms. Ljiang is hardly peaceful during its busy days as a center for bus group tours. However the Moon Inn removes you from the crush of the crowds while showing you the best of Lijiang.

Our four-night stay began with Lijiang airport pickup. The driver was outside the terminal with a sign, eager to help us with our hefty bags. When we got close to the old city, he again helped us carry our bags into the old city and to the Inn, a trip which would have made our arrival miserable by ourselves. (No cars are allowed in the old city.) This family-run inn was cozy and comfortable, a nice size to receive personal attention all the time.

Our room, 201, was one of the best, a large king bed in an expanded room (maybe called a suite, but really a spacious junior suite.) The view from the panaramic windows was as advertised on their web site. However, because of the rainy season, we never did get to see Snow Dragon Jade Mountain clearly from the room or anywhere else in Lijiang.

The room was clean, well maintained and outfitted with furniture in keeping with the historical theme of the Inn and the city. Internet was free via broadband cable hookup. Television had Chinese-only channels. The bath was modern (24-hour hot water) however a bit tight in space. They did a bag of laundry for 10 yuan.

As a base of operations, the Moon Inn was a great place to start the day with the morning sun reflecting off the roofs of the old city, and to end the day with the lighted views of the city. The inn has a limited breakfast and dinner menu, and offers to prepare meals in a custom fashion. I had a bowl of noodles fixed vegetarian style which was very good. There is a nice common room next to the front desk with free computer and another tv as well as reading library. I peaked into other rooms during cleaning services and noticed they are all nicely decorated. The budget rooms were modest in size, but fine for the price of just 200 yuan.

I booked this hotel after seeing a picture of the view of Jade dragon Snow Mountain from one of the rooms. I have to say I wasn't disappointed. We were met from our taxi on the edge of the old town (no vehicles can enter) by the family who carried our bags and showed us to their beautiful hotel. One of the girls spoke perfect english and was very helpful, reccomending restaurants and showing us how to get there.

The room was beautiful, with an enormous comfortable bed and the most amazing view in lijiang. The window is the length of one wall and shows the whole of the Old town on the hill above you, as well as the snow covered mountain. It looked particulatly good at night when the houses were all lit with lanterns.

The furniture was all stylish dark chinese furniture and there was a water filter and hot water for tea in the room.

The building is a traditional naxi building with all the rooms facing around a courtyard. Very characterful. The rooms were quiet and had fantastic electric blankets on the bed for when the nights were cold. I cant reccommed this hotel enough, it is right next to the Zen garden Inn, in a very central location, down a quiet street. I can honestly say this was the best hotel we stayed in in China!
