I just stayed at the Sheraton Haikou Resort for the 5th time in 30 months in May this year (2008).

I go there to play in Golf tournaments usually.

I cannot understand anyone having a bad time there.

David, the manager and his staff go out of their way to make you welcome.

I find the service great.

The ambience of the Hotel is suberb.

Ordering dinner in your room is easy . It takes about 30 minute to get your meals.

The hotel facilities are wonderful. The pools, gardens, beach, games room, gym, everything.....

The city of Haikou is 15 mins away....and a taxi costs next to nothing....but they are fun....road rules ...are there any?

But seriously...the shopping is great and the whole experience is one I love and I will be going back for my 6th visit as soon as I can.

Concierge and Reception staff spoke English. Overall service was ok for a 5-star hotel (could have been better if more staff spoke English).

Resort looks quite new. Room was very clean. Internet/WiFi access rate is more on the expensive side (20RMB/hour or 80RMB/day). Business center staff spoke English and was very helpful.

Breakfast was pretty good, but more under average amongst other 5-star resorts I've stayed in in Southeast Asia. But compared to other places in Haikou, the food is top-notch and didn't get me sick!

Beach was not as nice as Hawaii. Water visibility was quite low and it looked more brown than blue. The pool was amazing.

Overall the resort is quite spacious and is heaven for a foreigner visiting Haikou area. Spa was not as nice as Crown Spa resort though.

On several occasions I need to stay in Haikou for business, but after trying for several times I decided not to come back anymore to the Sheraton Haikou. The hotel went from good to okay to absolutely terrible. Most of the staff cannot speak a word of English. The prices are outrageous and the service is similar to 1 star hotel.

The Lobby Lounge staff only served me something after I asked for it and they cannot even make a coffee right. I have eat in the Special restaurant but no real service. Seems all the staff is too new and even the manager lack of knowledge.

The reception is slow and not polite, do not even look at me. It feels like going to a supermarket.

I mentioned these things during my stay to two managers, but no any feedback. Previously there were managers that care, but seems no more.

I normally do not like to write these reviews, but I feel so dissapointed by these experiences.

I have stayed at the Haikou Sheraton during 2 different visits to Haikou and believe it is quite a little gem. Located right on the beach, the hotel is a great oasis for both the leisure and business traveler. The lobby is spectacular, and offers stunning views of the ocean, while providing plenty of space for relaxing and mingling. The rooms are extremely well designed (among the best I have seen) and allow the guests to truly indulge. The hotel's staff is quite helpful, but a little weak on the English skills. Other than that, this is an amazing hotel that is sure to please.

I booked a special offer they have on their websirte. Arriving in Haikou is fine, but it is better to book a hotel car, because dealing with cab driver is not that easy.

Arriving at the hotel is nice, give you a warm feeling, especially with the open lobby that looks out over the sea.

I was here with my newly wed wife and we truly enjoyed our stay, because it was nice and quiet. They said the hotel was busy, but it seems no one went to the pool and hot springs.

The rooms are much more spacious than in North America and it seemed to very new. Because I am a SPG member I also enjoyed some fruit f and a better view room.

I you go here, don't expect to much from the beach & sea. The water is quiet dark and not as blue as expected from a tropical island. They have a great pool, so no need to swim in the sea.

The choice of food & beverages was good, both most of drinks are at quiet high price.

The service staff are kind and most of time very helpful. If you enjoy a quiet time by yourself or with your family it is a very good choice.

The grounds and the facilities of the Sheraton Haikou are quite nice--with a nice ocean view from the lobby cafe. But the service was just horrible. We got up late and went to the restaurant for lunch. We wanted to order from the menu but the waitress was pushy about having us try the buffet. We figured why not since it was faster and we were starving. But when we went to get food, another waitress ran over to stop us and made a big scene telling us the buffet was closed until noon, which was about 20 minutes away, even though all the food had already been laid out. We explained that our server had told us to go ahead and serve ourselves. She continued to argue with us--obviously not understanding what we were saying or choosing to ignore it. Even though we had already been seated, she tried to make us sit in the waiting area of the restaurant. We said we were already seated, as were many other people. She relented and allowed us to go back to our table but made us continue to wait. She did not come back to inform us when we could eat so finally after about 15 minutes we asked if we could eat now and we could. Nothing had changed in the buffet. It a ridiculous ordeal and made our stay very unpleasant.

Furthermore, we contacted the concierge regarding arrangement of overland transportation and he also was curt and not helpful, pushing us to take the hotel car instead of a taxi that was significantly cheaper.

The most disappointing part of our stay was the beach, which was so littered with trash (cigarette butts, cigarette boxes, parts of bottles, tire parts) that we could not walk. A worker told us that this is typical and that people dump trash into the water from the city and it washes up in front of the hotel.

Great stay, great rate, great atmosphere. Once and a while I come to Haikou; stayed in a few local hotels. This was the first time I tried the Sheraton Haikou Resort. It was arriving in heaven; lobby is spacious with great view of the Ocean. Staff is extremely friendly ahd helpfull. They have free natural hotspings, nice outdoor swimming pool and comfortable SPA. They have 3 restaurants with all great food.

This was the best May holiday I spend so far, Sanya is overcowded. This place was heavenly and relaxing.

I definitely recommend every one to come to Haikou to stay in the Sheraton. Try it and enjoy it.
