This hotel is one block from the railway station and about a 5 minute taxi ride/12 minute walk to the city centre. The rooms are good size but in need of a revamp, the There is only one staff member who speaks a little English, but they are helpful if you can manage a bit of Mandarin or use your phrase book, which is what I did. The bathtub was a welcome sight after a day of wandering the frosty streets. The tv has no English stations but you can still manage to find programs that are watchable. I was very impressed that the staff allowed me to check in at 6am, after getting off the train from Shenyang. They didn't charge me any extra and were attentive. The taxi fare to the central city if around 8rmb ($US1). In the central city you can see St Sophia church, Zhaolin Park (it hosts the ice lanterns during the snow and ice festival), Daoli St (old Russian quarter) and the Songhua River (a frozen wonderland in winter). The main western restaurants are in Daoli but there is KFC close to the hotel and a Starbucks not too far up the road. The rate for this hotel was around 180rmb ($US25) per night. I found the rooms quiet and spacious , the only complaint I would make is that cigarette smoke infiltrates the rooms via the aircon system. I found an open window even in very cold winter helped alleviate this issue. Would recommend this hotel whole-heartedly for a short stay in Harbin!
