We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights last March 2009. We took the bus from the airport and were dropped off 5 minutes by foot from the hotel. The hotel building is not big but it was new. The rooms are not so big (3 meters in width) but the ameneties are great. Flat screen TV, heated toilets, TV in front of the tub, coffee maker and a small microwave. They have 2 computers at the ground floor with free internet access. Breakfast was delicious and filling, something to look forward to every morning. Subway station is 30 meters from the hotel entrance. There is a Mcdonalds and a mall 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Overall a nice hotel to stay in and we will surely stay in this hotel in the future.
The hotel is even better than the 5-star hotels! Jaccuzzi tub; great shower; heated bowls... what more can i say! One of the best air-conditioning I have experienced in ALL my travels.
The staff is friendly and efficient. The bed is so luxurious. Although its very small boutique hotel within the city, the amenities in the room is so fantastic! Excellent standards of cleanliness and comfort which you cannot find in big chains of hotels.
It has 3 TVs in one tiny room! The hotel not to be missed!
As we have not decided on our holiday schedule in Taiwan, we emailed with the hotel regarding their reservations policy and was informed that we could change our reservations during our stay in Taipei, so we proceeded with our internet reservations. Upon check-in, we double-checked and were told that we could not do any change because we had made the reservations by internet instead of phone or email and that they would only allow any change if they were made 7 days before check-in. Please be aware of this when making internet booking.
In the end, they insisted on their policy and it took them 4 days to respond to this situation, which anyway, left us with little time to make any change to our schedule.
The positives:
Convenient location with eateries (and Daiso) and near to MRT station
Modern facilities
Room for improvement:
Lobby's lighting was too dim (my tour guide fell at the lobby toilet due to poor lighting and steps)
Size of the room is very small (inadequate space for lugguage)
Inexperienced staff to handle situations
Fortunately, we did not stay in the Executive Studio room because we realised that the Executive Studio rooms do not have windows.
Most taxi drivers do not know the hotel, so you will have to tell them that it is near to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Nanxi store.
I stayed in this hotel during my first taipei trip from 19 to 23 september 2009. I must say first, the location is great. It's only 1 min walk to zhongshan 中山 exit 4 station. travelling through the MRT is a bliss. This hotel also located within the shopping district. Just directly opposite the hotel is the shopping mall. Louis Vuitton also is just about 5 min walk from the hotel. all in all, location is great.
The service rendered by the hotel staff also is great. they always greet u with smile whenever u are back.
The room is not really spacious but rather high tech. it comes with remote control blind, curtain, automatic toilet cleaning system, jacuzzi. what can i say more.
oh ya, the drinks and snacks in the room are all FREE! and everyday u get 2 bottle of EVIAN!!!!! mineral water. i bet even 5 star hotel won' t do that. oh ya, they will serve EVIAN mineral water, but u got to pay for it!
I do travel a lot and stay in hotels like sheraton, copthorne, parkroyal, meridien, hilton. I must say that the service and facilities rendered by this hotel by all means on par or even better than those 5 star hotel. this really surprise me!!! oh ya, u get free wifi too!!!
highly recommended. will definitely stay again if going back to taipei
This hotel resides in Zhongshan area which is like what everyone says, 20 secs walk to the MRT. Zhongshan station is just 1 stop away to Taipei Main station which is the interchange station to most other places, e.g. Xi Men Ding, Danshui, Wu Fen Pu etc.
Around the hotels are 2 big departmental stores and both stretches of street are all food and shops. There are MacDonald's, Japanese food, Chinese food all around.
Hotel itself:
Very cosy and boutique hotel. The receptionist knows who you are and which room you stays in. Even though we don't see much porters around, meaning to say, we have to lug our own luggage up to our room.
Not much of a grand entrance as what you might see for those big hotels, but because of this, it makes the hotel more cosy, comfortable and non threatening.
Room:
Excellent room! I stayed in Junior King room and it was good! Even though the space are quite limited, you will still get what you need, e.g. half a wardrobe, complete with ironing board, safe and enough space for you to put small bags.
All food in the bar are free and top up everyday during room service. There is a microwave as well if you need to heat up some food.
The queen size bed is very comfortable and directly facing you is the 40 inch LCD TV with almost 100 channels for you to choose!
Toilet is good and clean as well with all the automatic toilet bowl functions, SPA on the bath tub and another 36 inch TV for you to watch all the 100 channels (not linked to the TV outside).
Conclusion:
Very modern, clean and chic hotel. With excellent toilet facilites in lthe most luxurious and hi tech possible way. Short distance to MRT.
Agree with the other reviews on the chic hotel with its oh so cool amenities but cannot say the same for the service.
Due to H1N1, the hotel has scheduled disinfection service and guests will not be allow into the hotel for 5 hours, in our case, from 1300hrs to 1800hrs.
We stayed a total of 4 nights and was informed on the 2nd night that the disinfection will be on the next day, therefore, please be out for that duration. When we returned after being out for the duration the next day, we were told that the disinfection will happen on the next day (4th day) instead with no reason given. We will not told of the exercise during our booking...
Which means we were not given access to our room for 10hours in total, during the hot summer, leaving us hot & sticky....
The drama begins when we requested for a late check-out of 2 hrs as we have a late evening flight back.
The reply - policy has no late check-out, check-out time is 12pm and every hour after is chargeable at NT500. No room for negotiation, no thoughts given on the inconvenience of the disinfection to the guests, policy is policy, cannot be bended.
We check-out 20 minutes late and received 3 calls in that 20 minutes to hurry us to check out, with the last call being a threat to start charging us for the late check-out.
If you are a light sleeper and have a room facing the road, which was where our Premier King room was, the noise of the buses can be quite loud and wake you earlier in the morning. And the blind of the room has a gap which lets light in, can't be close 100%.
If you are thinking of booking into Tango Nanshi, my suggestion is to check if they have a scheduled disinfection during your stay as it can be quite inconvenient.
Very glad to stay in this hotel. The hotel is full of state-of-the-art hi-tech appliances. Also a architecutural designer,I really admire their courage of using so many electronic equipments--it means more maintenance fees will be needed.I know that from my car and my experiences of designing for other ppl. Also u can learn that hotel-market competiotion in taiwan is very keen. But this is a typical business hotel,so don't expect swimming pool or sauna stuff here. They provided limited parking space, not bad breakfast buffet. But u really have to be prepared u might encounter some minor equipment problem like u can't change tv channel in ur bathroom,or a coffee machine breaking down(as we met in the hotel).Well,I don't blame them. They have too many appliances to take care of.As a whole,u won't regret staying here.My wife is completely satified for she likes hotel sparkling new.So this hotel just suits her fine.Hotel staff are helpful.Very good location. One thing u can complain about is the room size, but with its convenient location and expensive land price in tp,it's understandable and acceptable.Plus they provide good mini bar-including a small bottle of high mountain tea and 2 bottles of evian mineral water-all free. The toilet amenities are very good, too.
except for the size of the rooms, loved everything else, the little zen private garden outside my window, the high tech gadgets in the bathroom and the room itself
in terms of location it was on the western part of town and not very central (ie the Far Eastern & Grand Hyatt are much better located)
but you don't mind small rooms, a hotel with no bars or beer even in your fridge, what you get in exchange are reasonably priced rooms, very hip interior & gadgets, not so central location but in a very local part of Taiwan (to get the local Taipei feel), then this is a very choice
We had a initial shocked of our life when we reached the hotel in the middle of a hot summer afternoon. The hotel door was shut and the service staff at the door said that the hotel was beening sanitized due to typhoon. As my hubby was rushing for a business meeting, the hotel chauffeured us to the nearest sister hotel to wash-up and changed, then chauffeured us to the meeting venue.
We stayed in the Premier suite for 2 nites. The room is equipped with mordern facilities that one needs in a studio apartment. In additition, the Jacuzzi bath tube and automated toliet bowl are amazing. Everything in the room (lighting, curtains, TV, DVD) can be controlled by just one remote control. TV channels are cabled and without snizzy channels. What more ! The subway is right at the door steps and is surrounded with eateries and departmental stores.
This hotel is great for couples but not recommended for families with young children. The rooms are not child proofed. Moreover, the rooms are not very spacious and no garden for children running around.
We arrived at Taiwan pretty late night & we hop in a local coach "FREEGO" to bring us to Zhongsan Station. Initially we have a bit of hard time to locate the hotel & somehow it was actually 1 min walk from EXIT 4 of the station. It was in between the row of shop houses.
The reception area was a bit dimmzy & small but the people are very firendly.
We are quite impressed on the room as it is quite "High Tech" in a sense. My hubby love the jacuzzi bathtub with a TV screen in front. The facilities & features is surperd. The downside is the room size where you need to place your luggage near to the walkway. The cupboard is small too. It will be a problem if you have too much luggage. I will recommend this for a couple stay.
The breakfast is not very good but you can find a lot of shops & eateries around the area.
It is very accessible taking the train and basically it was just 1 station from Taipei Interchange station.
The Tango is a nice little hotel with a very nice room layout.
Upon arriving from the airport you may think the Tango is closed down such is the dark, moody exterior. But fear not; it's just that way inclined. The foyer, once you get inside, is also a brooding welcome to the hotel.
The front desk were friendly and helpful.
The location is not too walker friendly but it certainly is MRT friendly being a few steps away from the Zhong San MRT station which can get you anywhere within 30 minutes (all the temples, 101, etc)
There is no bar or restaurant in the Tango Nanshi; which is a shame.
There are not too many bar/restaurants around the area and we did walk quite some time to get to a bar that was recommended by LP.
The jacuzzi, rain shower and bathroom in general are top notch and the free internet is becoming a must have for any hotel we visit now.
chic modern design, without compromising practicality. great amenities and service. especially loved the jacuzzi with the LCD TV in front of it. staff were very helpful! location was quite ideal, just a two minute walk from the Zhong shan MRT and a five minute walk from the Airport bus station. they are having a promotion for summer now, and you even get Coldstone icecream as a bonus, so be sure to check out Tango Nanshi if you visit Taipei! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I would like to think that I have travelled and stayed in my fair share of hotels around the world, but have never before felt compelled to write a hotel review prior to my recent stay at the Tango Nanshi.
The amount of technology that goes into the room is truly fascinating, yet it all came together very nicely and I never got the sense that any of it was overdone.
Highlights in the bathroom include the Toto automatic toilet with its multiple features, the rain shower with water flowing directly out of the ceiling, and the large LCD TV. Reading about these gadgets through online reviews simply doesn't match the experience of actually using them in person.
The all-in-one remote control in the room was extremely convenient, and I could switch between the various entertainment options effortlessly. Being able to toggle through the multiple light settings was useful as well. I especially liked being able to wake up to the soothing jazz from the CD which the hotel provided in semi-darkness, followed by switching to the TV under slightly brighter lighting as I gradually awakened, and finally to regular lighting as I started getting ready for the day, all with the touch of a few buttons.
The bed was very comfortable as well, and it was indeed quite difficult dragging myself out of bed every morning. The location is great as well, as the hotel is situated amongst department stores and other shops, and the nearest subway entrance is only about 20m away from the hotel.
The only downside is that the room is a bit small, but if space is not a priority, then the Tango Nanshi would certainly be hard to top, even when compared against more established international hotel chains.
We stayed at this hotel for three nights. Taipei was our first destination on our trip through Taiwan.
I can recommend this hotel to everyone - especially for 'younger' travellers who prefer boutique-style hotels to old fashioned ones.
The hotel is about 2 min walk from the next metro station (Zhongshan). There are some cafes (eg. Starbucks), Some restaurants and a department store close to the hotel. If you want to go out at night the area is not the best nightlife spot of Taipei.
Rooms are normal size, have internet, DVD-player (quite hard to start it, if you don't know Chinese characters) and an huge Sony Bravia-flatscreen. The bathroom is also very, very nice.
Breakfast is quite simple but satisfactory.
Jet-laggy and exhausted from tropical climate we forgot our passports, some money, flight-tickets and keys in the hotel safe of our room and recognized it too late - on a train to Hua Lien. Quite shocked about this we contacted the hotel from Hua Lien about three hours after check out. Staff seemed to be as shocked as we were - they showed a lot of empathy, what made us feel very relieved! I don't have to mention that after our return to Taipei we got back all our documents and money - nothing was missing.
Staff of Taipei Tango Nanshi was extremly nice and helpful not only in our mishap.
My friend stayed in this hotel and I went checked out the rooms. Very trendy design, fashionable furniture. The control panels for light are very cool - they're all leds, not traditional switches. The bathroom is worth mentioning too, the toilet is very cool, it opens when you get close and it warms up the seat for you. It has a shower closet and a bathtub. Location is also perfect, it's 5 seconds to MRT (subway) station entrance. Staffs speak English well. Everything is very satisfactory.
During our stay for 3 nights, we were woken up by bad smell in the hotel room, at around 11 at night. We check the bathroom thinking that there might be a sewage problem. but the smell actually come from the air conditioning. The same smell is there again the following day at around 11:30, when we report to the front desk, they just said that there is construction in the next buidling, they complaint before, but did not do anything. Trying to ignore the problem.
TV in bathroom not working most of the time, not sure if it is due to the moisture or sensitivity.
hotel overall is pretty clean, but I would not recommend due to the smell, really bad and it lasted for about 30 -45 mins. I never stay in a hotel that smells.
Superb value for money boutique hotel with all possible room facilities. Centrally located and attentive staff. No extra charges for broadband access or print outs in the business center, breakfast included. Extremely well equipped and modern rooms. Highly recommended and at a competitive price.
My husband and I visited Taipei (2nd trip) stayed at the Tango Nanshi. It is everything the reviews say. It is ultra modern and chic. It has everything you need. It is very dimly-lit (adds to the chic) so if you like bright hallways, this is not the place for you. The location is excellent as the MRT Zhongshan station is a few feet from the entrance and there are lots of little convenience stores, major fast food/coffee chain and mall on the same block. The free refreshments were a nice touch and an adequate breakfast is also provided. We took a short cab ride to a nearby night market for dinner which was excellent. The price and location makes it a great deal. Note that most cab drivers do not know the hotel by name yet so be sure to give them the street address.
Tango nanshi, situated just a stone throw away from Zhong San MRT station. This is my first trip to taipei, arrived in taipei almost near evening. The check in was fast, all the detail were prepare, once you step into the hotel, all you need to do is jus pass ur credit card to the reception for verification...and thats it....you get your room keys.
The hotel is considered a small hotel, in average, each floors consist of around 8 rooms. The lighting in the hotel is very cosy, makes you forget about the busy street outside.
During this trip, i booked a junior suit. The build up space for the room is kinda small but very well equip. You get 2 giant LCD TV with over 100 of channels, jacuzzi, desk, safe, microwave oven, fridge with 3 cans of free softdrink everyday, pineapple cake, olong chinese tea and so much more.
The rain shower was the best i ever came across....powerful....exactly lets you feel like standing under a thunderstorm...:)
Breakfast choices is limited because of the dining area. Food was excellent, everyday they have different menu, ranging from baked cheese oyster ..all the way to HK dim sum.
The only down thing was the fruit juice, they only serve orange juice everyday. Hope they can have more variety in near future.
On the 3rd day of our stay, my gf dropped her diamond earing during her sleep, but when she found out, we were on our day tour. We prayed so hard that the earing was still in the room. When we arrived back to our room in the evening....guess what!!...the earing was being placed nicely on the table by the housekeeper.
On the day we were leaving , the pre arranged taxi was waiting for us in the lobby 15 minutes before the arranged time. Everything was well arranged. This is the best hotel in Taipei. Tango crew, you are the BEST !!! I will be back soon..........
This hotel lived up to all reviews - I could have spent the weekend in the bathroom alone. We had a superior room and it was gorgeous - medium sized but with everything you could ask for. The jet bath with built in plasma screen was amazing and the electronic toilet lifted up it's lid to say 'hello' every time it sensed you walk in. My boyfriend loved the remote control lights/curtains etc and felt like he was in a James Bond movie.
Aside from the amazing room, staff were friendly, breakfast good and the subway is a few metres down the road. Would definitely go again.
Stayed in Tango for 2 nights after the rave reviews in TripAdvisor.
The hotel is top class in my opinion.
Super comfy king-size bedding, Full amenities including microwave oven.
Everything in the room is free (no charges) including mineral water, snacks (mine was pineapple tarts), 3 free cans of soft drink, Alishan tea leaf, coffee etc.
Best part is the auto sensor toilet seat that will lift up when u left the toilet and go down when u approach toilet!! ha ha...
And the jacuzzi tub with LCD TV ^^
The only quirk is the room is a bit small but is cozy though...
Husband & I stayed here for 2 nights end of Feb. It was our first Taiwan trip.
Love the new EVERYTHING about this hotel. The bathroom is as cool as everybody says it. They even give you bath salts for the jacuzzi. There is absolutely nothing I don't like about the bathroom (which is very important to me). Outside the bathroom is very nice too - the bed was comfortable, the TV was nice - I can't think of any channels they don't have. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the humidifyer...the non-functioning of it. Our room was very dry but couldn't get that thing to work! It was a bug to the whole room experience.
The location was good too, right next to the ZhongShan station. The only thing is that there's really nothing near the hotel - next time, I would've picked a hotel near a more central station, like Taipei Main Station.
Stayed at the Tango Nanshi last week when i was in taipei.
Stayed there for 5nights. Best hotel i have been in a long time, very convinent, 10 steps away from zhongshan station, within 5 minutes walk of 3 shinkong shopping malls & near a small alley that sells lots of good food.
Near zhongshan station exit 1.
Highly Recommended, still trying to get used to my own toilet, after the tango everything seems normal
I've never written about any hotel which I stayed in but after staying at Tango for 3 nights, i felt compelled to commend their staff and recommend to others who intend to visit TP. The rooms are chic, equipped with modern technology, bed is huge and super comfortable, service is tops, breakfast is average but they took the effort to change the menu e'day, location is 10 steps away from the train station, 2 huge shopping malls around the corner, service is first-class..... what more could i ask for?
Just stayed at the Tango Nanshi for 7 nights. All the previous reviews are very accurate. This is an awesome hotel with excellent in room amenities. The rain shower is just to die for, you are showered with powerful spray from three ceiling heads. It was so difficult to readjust to my shower at home now. Jacuzzi tub also available with TV for your relaxation. In Taipei, you will ends up walking quite a bit and a nice shower/bath and comfy bed is rejuvenating. Other goodies includes free drinks (3 bottles of water; coke, sprite and procari) in room daily, excellent oolong tea with electric tea pot if you are into sipping chinese tea. Breakfast is included and several hot entrees are different each morning; congee, rice, toast, fruits, cereal, tea, milk...etc are standard. Free wifi internet included.
Location is also excellent, MRT station is right outside and the local neighborhood also with lots of shopping and eateries.
Excellent thoughtful and polite service as well. One morning a cold front arrived and the front desk attendant was thoughtful enough to remind my mom to put on extra layer. Also, on our departure, we left a bunch of tea we bought for souvenir at the lobby. We later realized and got them back, but before we head back, the hotel staff had already called long distance to our US number to inform us since that was our contact number.
Mild negatives:
This is a boutique hotel, so the lighting is a bit on the dimmer side(main complaint from my mom), more for atmosphere, so not as ideal for the elderly traveller with impaired vision.
If you want views, then this is not a hotel for you. The view from our room is the main road in front, so you are looking at the opposite building. This is not a problem for us, noise is not an issue either.
Room size is also on the smaller size but may be the standard in Taiwan/Asia since land is more limited compared to American standard.
If you want a gym or pool, then this is also not your hotel. But if you really do travel in Taipei, you will probably get lots of leg exercise from walking.
Overall, we highly recommended this hotel and I would stay there again. We booked online through their main website and that was also the cheapest deal I found. About $110 US dollar/night, a real bargain consider the qualities and amenities.
Fun Japanese technology, very sheik and stylish interior. Careful attention has been paid to some pracitcal aspects of a visitor's stay which really make this one of the best experiences I've ever had at a hotel. Hotel Managers could do themselves a favour by staying here for a few nights and taking notes.
Here's a list of the things we really liked about the hotel which were unique or unusually cool:
- Large flat screen TV with full hometheatre including DVD player, so we bring/buy our own movies and watch them in the room. No overpriced, on demand junk films.
- Large bed with quality linen, not too hard or soft.
- Jet bath with TV and speakers watching a movie.
- Huge shower head with rainfall shower option from the ceiling.
- Minibar fridge empty except for three cans of softdrink which were free, and replenished daily.
- Microwave in your room for easy noodles and reheating leftovers to save $$.
- No overpriced mineral water placed beside your bed "for sale". The mineral water in the rooms was completely free.
- Icemaker right outside the door (but you can't hear it in the middle of the night)
- Amenities trolley left at the side of the hallway outside the room so if you want more towels, water, coke, shampoo, toothbrush, shaver anything, you can just grab it yourself instead of having to call for it.
- Free internet in room, and two computers in the breakfast lounge so you can surf the web while eating brunch, very cool.
- Japanese bathrobes and slippers in the room, changed daily.
- Sheer and curtain, both electric, so you could open the curtains to let some light in without losing privacy.
The staff were helpful and chatty, and recommended some good restaurants we enjoyed. Highlight of the trip was the check out. We were leaving at 8am, so needed to leave early. The staff organised a taxi for us and gave us a wake up call on time. Half an hour after wakeup, we were called and asked if we wanted a sandwich or coffee for breakfast. When we got to the lobby, I handed back the room key, was given an envelope with our receipt in it, and a big brown paper bag with two takeaway coffees in it. The taxi driver took our bags and we walked out the door. Check out took less than 10 seconds! (we had prepaid online, but because the minibar, internet and breakfast were free there were no extras).
Although it was hard to find the hotels website, booking direct with the hotel was much cheaper than any other method.
We'll be going back to Taipei just because we enjoyed this hotel and the restaurants so much.
Originally I skipped The Tango Nanshi Taipei when looking for accommodation in Taipei since I was traveling with a lady friend and we prefer to get a twin bedded room (Tango Nanshi only provides king) but I was persuaded by my Taiwanese friend who always stay there everytime she visits Taipei, and how glad I was to listen to her! It is really one of the best hotels that I have ever stayed in for the price I paid and all the value added products and services provided.
I stayed in the Superior Studio, which was small but we were able to fit in my large trolley bag, my friend's smaller trolley bag and a couple of hand luggages without having to step over any of the items, so I was pretty happy with the room size. There's a decent sized cupboard to hang some clothes so it was ok there too. The website mentioned that this room has no window but in actual fact, there are 2 small windows and at least 1 of them opens up. Just that there is no view since they face a wall a few meters away.
This room doesn't have a jacuzzi but it has a fantastic rain shower. Needless to say, everything was really awesome, high tech and minimalist. Love all the freebies!
The best thing is I arrived first and felt totally safe there and wouldn't have minded staying alone at all. The staffs were fantastic. They even called up 5 minutes after I got up to the room to enquire whether the internet worked alright in my room. We had to check out at 5am and they offerred to pack us breakfast to take away.
Location is fantastic. Right in the midst of all the shops and steps away from the MRT. The lounge is very cosy and hardly anyone there except for during breakfast. Really like this hotel. Just wish I am back in Taipei just so I can stay there again!
- Cab drivers may not know this hotel b/c it's so new (be ready to give the direct address)
- smaller, more compacted rooms
If we ever come back to Taipei, this will be the hotel we stay at. For a gadget person, the amenities (nano tub w/flatscreen tv, latest toto toilet, one control for everything including curtains) were just way too fun and cool! Also the location of this hotel is literally steps away from the ZhongShan MRT. The MRT is one stop away from the Taipei Main Station and therefore makes everything ridiculously easy to navigate. Originally I had a hard time spotting the hotel, until saw the huge red ESPRIT sign which is the building next door. We had a slight issue with lack of hot water for a couple hours in the afternoon, but the hotel was quick to remedy the problem. Also the front desk always had someone that spoke and understood English for anyone that's concerned about language barriers.
After doing a search around alot of internet sites, I found that booking directly through the tango-hotels.com website was the cheapest.
Absolutely a steal! My partner and I stayed in Tango Nanshi for 5 nights: Dec 30 to Jan 4. Just came back from the trip and am eager to share how please we are with the hotel:
Room condition: super clean, super new.
facilities: 40" Sony flat screen TV, DVD player, Pioneer surround sound system, microwave oven. Mattress just right, King size, nice quality pillow. nice shower. TV in bathroom!
Service: hotel service excellent and speedy!
Breakfast: buffet style, comes with the stay: chinese, western, fruits, yogurt,...you name it. can't say it's the best, but can't complain either
Extras: free 3 bottles of water - very nice for traveller. Biz center with computer, scanner, printing - all for free.
Location: Zhong shan station exit on the same block, less than 100 steps. super convenient.
Price: for 100 bucks per night! I can ask for no more!
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in a Junior King room at the end of December. The price is unbeatable with what you get, I actually think I got more than I have paid for. The legendary computerized toilet with sensors, the amazing TV-facing jacuzzi, the all-in-one remote control and the ultra fast free wi-fi internet are really impressive.
Location is excellent, a very short walk to the nearest metro station (ZhongShan) which is only one station away from the Taipei station. Our room was very quiet although the hotel is located on a busy street. I highly recommend to buy a EasyCard if you are going to take the metro a lot and you can use it for the buses as well.
It would be great if there is a gym as we felt very guilty after eating all day!
What I want to say about this hotel has been mentioned by the other reviews. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed, if not the BEST considering the amount I have paid. I stayed for 6 nights in a Junior King room and each night costs only about TWD 3800.
With that rate, what you get is 2 SONY BRAVIA televisions, one directly in front of the bath tub (with spa!) and one in the main room. You get one microwave oven, one DVD player, one sophisticated toilet bowl, curtains that can be opened and closed by the remote controller and a high tech way of displaying 'Do not disturb' and 'room cleaning' by the press of a button inside the room. You no longer need to open the door and put out a card on the door knob for this.
On top of this, the room has three bottles of mineral water, a few cans of soft drinks (coke, spright, pocari), two pineapple cakes from a famous shop, and the usual tea and coffee packets absolutely free. These items will be replenished every day if you have used them. You can also help yourself to the dessert they have in their fridge in the dining room. There's also two computers with free internet access and two televisions in the dining room if you want to chill out there.
As for the breakfast, the main dishes (mainly chinese) are different everyday. Most of them taste alright. The variety of fruits and cereal needs to be improved though.
As far as location is concerned, this hotel is excellent. Like one of the reviewer said, only 20 seconds walk to the ZhongShan MRT station. Besides this, directly opposite is Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, a huge departmental store. The Shin Yeh restaurant is also there. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
I noticed that a number of taxi drivers don't know about this hotel though even after giving them the hotel card. Instead I need to tell them to go to Zhong Shan MRT station.
My fiancé and I stayed at the Tango for 3 nights in a Junior suite end of Nov and we totally fell in love with the facilities there, especially the Japanese computerised toilet. You have got to try that. I was queasy about that idea at first but ended up falling in love with it. We are thinking of importing that one of those into Australia. My fiancé said that he will definitely go back to the Tango just for that, or we will have to find another hotel with that facility.
Location: 5/5 stars, exactly 20 seconds walk from Zhongshan station which is one station from Taipei station (most central place in Taipei). It's practically surrounded by shops (Mitsukoshi dept store, Watson's pharmacy, Esprit, Sasa beauty, Tienren tea).
In-room facilities:
Overall rating: 5/5 stars, they used top of the range products for everything, beating 5-star hotels hands-down (e.g. Westin Taipei)
TV: 5/5 stars, it was a 46' Sony Bravia
Sound system: 5/5 stars, surround-sound home theatre sound system, they also provided a jazzy CD to give it a funky, yuppie finish
Food and drinks: 4/5 stars everything was free of charge (3 cans of soft drinks- coke and sprite, coffee, tea, Chinese tea, and pineapple cakes from this famous cake company Xindongyang
Bathroom: 5/5 stars: excellent automated toilet, words cannot describe how awesome it is, I will not spoil the fun and mystery and shall leave it to you to experience for yourself. It also has an amazing LCD TV-facing Jacuzzi with changing lights at the bottom of the bathtub. Jap-made Hotspring bath powder is given just in case you don't have time to pay a visit to the real hotsprings in Beitou. All other fixtures are top-of the range Hansgrohe stylish products.
Desk chair: the 1200+ US dollar desk chair is very stylish and comfy, again you have gotta try this out
Curtains: totally automated including the sheer curtain
Service: 4/5 stars, all staff were helpful and courteous, except they don't provide room cleaning services after a certain time in the afternoon, unlike hotels in other places e.g. Hong Kong
Breakfast: 4/5 stars, more than enough variety overall but only provided 1 type of fruit juice (grapefruit)
Others: high-speed free internet, free laundry service (for underwear only, if you stay more than 2 consecutive days), iron, ironing board, and hair dryer were provided.
Downsides:
My fiancé was passing by the lobby and overheard this older guy enquiring about room rates. His young companion was waiting behind the curtains. Apparently, rooms can be rented out at an hourly rate (499 TWD), which means the Tango doubles as a love motel?
The room is VERY small, you cannot open the wardrobe unless you move the desk chair out of the way.
They only provided 3 cotton buds a day, which is barely enough for the average female guest.
The Tango Nanshi is by far the best I have stayed at. I stayed at the Tango Nanshi was 6 nights in September 08. The room was amazing especially loved the 42 LCD tv and a bathroom that was first class great shower and the tv inbedded in glass that you can watch well in the jacuzzi was incredible.
Location as excellent close to shopping and a short walk to the subway station. Breakfast was very good, and staff was very accomodating. I had a early flight and had to leave before breakfast. They made sure to have a sandwich ready for me.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone it is a real gem.
The Tango Nanshi is such a fabulous hotel that I don't even know where to start! It is definitely worthy of all the fantastic reviews that it has garnered so far. Not only was the hotel affordable, extremely convenient (3 minutes from the subway station) and provided free buffet breakfast every morning, the entire hotel had a cosy feel to it that made guests feel right at home.
Over a period of 5 days, my family and I (4 people in total) took two junior king rooms. Each room had a nice king sized bed, TWO LCD plasma screen TVs with 97 channels (one in front of the tub so that you can relax in a jacuzzi bath while watching your favourite show), a DVD player and speakers, free internet access, complimentary soft drinks, tea and pineapple tarts, a jacuzzi bathtub (they even provide Japanese Onsen powder) and an extremely high-tech toilet with auto sensors and a myraid of many different functions. All lights and curtains are centrally controlled by a touch pad next to the bed for easy access. My sister was so impressed by the hotel that our holiday photo album now looks like a brochure for the Tango Nanshi with the number of pictures she had taken of the place. Returning back to the hotel at the end of each day was a definite highlight for us.
Needless to say, all of us gave a unanimous thumbs-up to the Tango Nanshi and will definitely stay at there the next time we are in Taipei!
I take an annual trip to Taipei, Taiwan, and I have been doing this since 2003. I have stayed at several different hotels including the United Hotel, the Howards Hotel, and a youth hotel. I stayed at the youth hotel back when I was still a poor student, but as I started working and making money, I started looking for better places to stay at to make my travel experiences more "complete." I didn't like the Howards Hotel because it was far from the metro station. I stayed at the United Hotel because its location (right on the ZhongXiao East Rd) but my husband got really upset because they wouldn't turn on the A/C (their excuse is that the A/C is central control so they couldn't turn it on in the middle of Nov). So this time (April 2008) I had the task to search for a better hotel.
I came across the Tango Hotel browsing through the internet. Originally we had some difficulty trying to decide on either to stay at Tango XinYi or Tango NanShi, but we decided on Tango Nanshi for its better facilities. The website is very nice, and I had no problem when I called to make the reservation. When I finally got to Tango NanShi, oh my god, what a nice and modern boutique hotel!
We stayed at Tango NanShi for a total of 8 days (4/19 to 4/27). The room was compact but very nice. Nothing beats the 2 flatscreen TVs (one by the bed and one by the bathtub). The room was equipped with a safe, a fridge, and even a microwave. All the soft drinks and mineral waters in the room plus the snacks are complimentary. The remote control controls all the lighting in the room and bathroom plus the window curtains (and my husband had fun playing with it).
The staff was curteous. The breakfast was awesome because the menu changed everyday. One day we even had fried oysters as a breakfast item; how cool is that, and my mouth starts watering as I am remembering it. I love the bathrobes in the room and wear it everday after shower. Tango NanShi also offers free laundry for underwear for guests that stay for 2 nights or more.
Location is GREAT. 20 seconds to the metro station and department stores are across street and next door. Oh and people can actually walk underground from the next metro stations. When I was too full from the good food that I had, I escaped from the sun and took walks between the stations.
Overall this was an excellent experience, and the best part is, I didn't pay extra for any of these cool things. The cost of the United Hotel and Tango Nanshi are the same.
I have been back to LA for 2 weeks and I already miss Tango NanShi. I can't wait to go back and stay there again.
This hotel is a great value and I would highly recommend it. We just got back two days ago from a 5 night stay. We stayed in the Tango Suite and had a hard time leaving the room to explore Taipei because it was so relaxing. Although the rooms at this property are smaller than at the other Tango hotel in Taipei, the location makes up for it.
The rooms are modern and luxurious. Step outside of the lobby and you are in the middle of an upscale shopping district, very safe and with restaurants and stores all around you. The MRT station (subway) is less than a block away and only one stop away from the Taipei Main station that connects you to most lines throughout Taipei. The staff was extremely professional and polite and breakfast was worth waking up for because it was a new experience every day. Can't say enough about the technology in the room, including LCD televisions in every space (including bathtub), a TOTO toilet system, and a jacuzzi tub complete with LED lights.
At the end of our stay, the hotel booked us a limo ride to the airport at our request and packed us breakfast as a surprise as part of this service. My husband and I were so sad to leave this hotel at the end of our vacation!!
The newest addition to the Taipei Tango boutique hotel chain is in an
enviable location by the Chongshan subway station. A stop away from the Taipei Train/High Speed Rail Stations and right around the corner
from the Regent Hotel and the surrounding high-end boutiques and banks.
The views are not great, and the rooms are compact, but the rooms are
quiet, the bathroom (and the room itself) is unbelievably high-tech and spacious. Free wifi and huge flatscreens in the room and bathroom
are a treat.
This would probably not be the best choice for families, as there is no pool, etc. But if you are in Taipei for business or a break, this is a pretty cool hotel.
Reviews
It is wonderful oasis in a busy city at a reasonable price.
Location:
A wonderful oasis in a busy city at a reasonable price.
Top grade!!
Happy travel.
PROS
- Modern w/great amenities
- New & clean
- Great location near shopping & MRT
CONS
This is a ultra modern, high tech, clean hotel, centrally located, next to MTR and shopping malls like IDEE and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Dept Store.
The breakfast is great, had stayed there for 7 nights. Different dishes every morning which was a big surprise!! Free Internet Access as well...
The spa in the bathroom was the best part. It comes with Japanese Onsen Powder, so you can enjoy a colourful LED lights Hot Spring everynight.
100% Recommended!!!
