I stayed here years ago and it remains the best hotel experience in memory. The staff was amazing, breakfast was amazing, the rooms - incredibly comfortable. Big fluffy down comforters, soft velvet chairs. If I'm ever in this city again, I'll stay here!
My husband and I stayed at this hotel during January of 2003 for four nights. I found a special rate on this hotel's Chinese language website and booked directly online with the hotel, prepaid.
This hotel suits business travelers who need an elegant and cozy hotel in a central location, friendly English-speaking staff and nothing more. The breakfast spread was small in scale compared to many other luxurious hotels in Taipie, but again, this hotel gears toward its business-traveler clienteles.
We reserved a higher priced room so we were assigned a spacious room. The first two nights we were in a room looking out to the windows of an office building next door, so we requested to change to a room with a better view. Then we were moved to a 9th floor spacious cornor room look out to the tree-lined blvd in front of the hotel. From this room we could see rainbows of neons in the distance in the night while lying on bed. That view was magical.
Le Petit Sherwood is literally the smaller sister of the Sherwood Hotel, which is a 5-star business/luxury hotel in Taipei. We stayed there for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. The rooms are quite small (you don't have much room to move around) but tastefully decorated. The daily buffet breakfast offers both western and Chinese dishes. In the lobby of the hotel, there is a lounge serving complimentary tea and coffee, plus free use of the computer (w/Internet connection). There isn't a gym, but you can request complimentary coupons that would allow you to use the gym and sauna at the Sherwood nearby in town. The staff is friendly and speaks decent English. The best part is its location. You can literally walk everywhere. The tallest building in the world: The Taipei 101 is just about 10 minutes away on foot. If you like the privacy of a boutique hotel, we would recommend Le Petit Sherwood. However, if you prefer more grandeur and hustle and bustle, then the Taipei Regent would be a better choice.
