I'm a frequent traveler for work and leisure, and recently took a trip to Taichung to explore my new home in Taiwan. I visited with my mother and we chose the Howard Prince Hotel because of the Howard Plaza hotel chain's great reputation. The Prince Hotel in Taichung surpassed my expectations.
Upon arrival at the front door, we were greeted with a friendly hello and ushered to the reception area to check-in. They asked how our trip was and took us efficiently to our room. Our hotel room was LARGE! And very clean especially for the value. We had 2 very comfortable queen sized beds, a nice closet and large bathroom. Perfect and very spacious - I almost wished we stayed in the room more, but we were there to explore.
Some might argue the Howard Prince's location is farther, but the reality is it is a much much peaceful location and for those who drive - it's great because of plentiful free parking. The neighborhood is very safe so even when you get home late (as we got back past 1am both nights), you feel fine. Taxis are also plentiful so it's easy to get around, and there is a free shuttle bus that takes you to/from the high-speed rail station.
Restaurants were all delicious. I especially liked the buffet which is open breakfast, lunch & dinner. And the 16F "Ocean Reef" restaurant which actually has a variety of food not just seafood. The dimsum was great for lunch and you have amazing views on the 16F of all Taichung. The Howard Prince was one of the tallest buildings in the area so day view or night views were spectacular.
I would definitely come back! And highly recommend it.
This hotel was booked by a friend for a professional conference. I had some trepidation based on a previous review, but I was completely impressed and happy with my 4-day stay there. This approaches a 4-star hotel: Large, helpful staff. Large, luxurious rooms. Excellent restaurants and breakfast (included).
