The deal is excellent. The lady owner of this resort is a very friendly person. Arrangement of the taxi was very efficient and reliable. Their regular taxi driver - Mr Wong could not make it so he sent another lady taxi driver to ferry us around for a day to Taroko. Hualien residents are very caring and responsible hosts - they make sure that you are well taken care of.
There were lots of minsu in hualien and all required a deposit to be TT'ed into their local bank acct, which posed an inconvenience to us from abroad. some were adamant that we paid a deposit. This minsu replied our email promptly and waived the deposit for us. also we were looking for a place next to the ocean.
It is a bit far and inconvenient to find eateries around, so pack lots of Shin noodles or fill your tummy up before u retire to the minsu! :-). BTW, they supplied boiling water. it could be a bit noisy due to traffic from the trunk road right in front. also, in summer, the sun rose very, very early. 430am i believe!
We were looking for a homestay in Hualien, Taiwan, when we came across the idyllic setting that Blue Ocean Resort offered. Our 3-day, 2-night stay over there was without a hint of regret.
Blue Ocean Resort is a new 3-storey house fronting the Pacific Ocean on the east coast of Taiwan near Hualien City (15-minute drive). Among similar homestays along the same stretch of the highway, Blue Ocean is undoubtedly the newest and coziest. It is also a stone's throw from the Hualien's Farglory Ocean Park (a theme park).
As with most homestays in Taiwan, there are limited rooms, which gives the feeling of exclusiveness, privacy and retreat. We were also impressed by the hospitality that the owner of the homestay offered. The room we stayed in was immaculate and well-kept. With cable-TV and the ocean view, I guess we can't ask for anything more. Our only grouse is probably the homestay's proximity to the highway where the noise of heavy trucks blaring down the down slope early in the morning may rouse you from your beauty sleep.
Other than that, we also engaged the services of a cabbie, Mr. Huang, who incidentally is the husband of the owner of Blue Ocean. His services was impeccable as well. With just NT$2,800 (USD$86) for 2 days, he ferried us from the Hualien Train Station to the homestay (and back), as well as took us on a tour of the famed Taroko National Park and Hualien City.
For those looking for a comfortable retreat in Hualien, you should give Blue Ocean a try!
