We had a good time at the Traders. Probably four and a half. It's features outweigh a few minor inconveniences. Overall, it's a nice relaxing place to stay in Singapore - and a good hub to explore Singapore from. The staff were all friendly and helpful, they took our luggage up and down and the nearby Tanglin mall was excellent.
Positives:
+ The supermarket and cafes nearby in Tanglin mall were as good as supermarket you find anywhere else in the world. It has everything. In addition, there's a food court down there with a wide variety of foods and also a cafe, where we saw many people have breakfast in the morning. Coffee, eggs, toast all appeared to be available. You don't need to go outside, you go to Level 2, and there is a walkway from there to the mall. You can get everything like milk, cereal, salad ingredients, meats etc. A real bonus.
+ We loved the pool. It's generously sized and fun to swim in. We saw many people enjoy those facilities. Close by, the gym looks to have all sorts of equipment and the change rooms have a spa and sauna inside. There is also a hospitality room which we took advantage of since there was a gap in time between our check out and our flight in the evening.
+ They provide a shuttle bus, which goes between the hotel and Orchard MRT station. Take careful note as to the nearby shops to the drop off point. There is a Nike shop and Wisma Atria. When coming out of the MRT, look to exit out of the side where there is a 7-11 shop ~ not the side where there is a shop called Bobbi Brown.
+ Great location for the botanical gardens.
+ Room is very neat and clean, very well looked after, excellent room service.
Negatives:
- While it's only about 10~15 minutes walk to Orchard MRT, that walk in the Singapore heat and humidity can be a bit exhausting. As mentioned, take note of the shuttle bus times, which run every hour. On the upside, once you get to Orchard MRT, during non-peak times, getting to the hotel shouldn't cost you more than $5 SGD, in peak times, it shouldn't be more than $10 SGD. We used taxis here or there to save us from walking in the heat. In the evening, it can be a pleasant walk back to the hotel.
- While they provided LAN internet access, we couldn't get this to work. However, there were a few wireless networks provided by the hotel and while we got very low signal in our room, it did the job for us. The wireless in the hotel lobby works well.
So we didn't really chase up the problem too much.
Initially we thought we might get to this hotel by using the MRT, and that might be ok for a single traveller with little luggage. However, the transport from the airport to the hotel only costs $9 SGD per head and it's a nice ride in. It wouldn't be that fun swapping at City hall with a few luggage bags. Perhaps if you're travelling with more than 2 people it's a better option to taxi it in.
On the whole, we enjoyed our stay in Traders. Perhaps next time, we might consider staying in a location closer to an MRT station and that too one of the interchange stations such as City Hall and Dhoby Gaut. However, we would be comfortable at traders too, since now we know that the supermarket is nearby.
Singapore is a great place to visit, neat, clean, easy to get around - so many food options. Strongly recommend visiting there.
I would not recommend you this hotel if you want to experience a five star luxury or even a 4 star or 3 star.
We went to this hotel with great expectations of staying in a top five star. It was a honeymoon trip. The indications were wrong from the beginning itself. There was no bellboy to take out our luggage from car and no one even to open the hotel door. We removed our heavy suitcases and held the door while we hurled them in. Once in, they took charge and checked us in.
Room was nice and they welcomed us with complementary strawberries. Next day ALL the towels were missing, no shower cap, and none of the toiletries replaced. Amazing! To top it, there was a bill of cup noodles from mini bar which we had not used. I called reception and they reverted the charges & replaced towels. The hotel shuttle to Orchard road was a small mini bus which gets full and hotel staff advises you to take a walk. The reverted charges appeared back during checkout. Again a mood spoiler.
I forgot to mention the complete lack of professionalism in re-scheduling our complementry light-up tour of city, which we eventually missed. Overall not the kind of experience worth spending so much money.
Stayed here on a short stopover at Singapore. While not luxurious, the hotel is definitely of a good standard. All required business amenities are available including wi-fi in public areas. Room was clean and of a good size for two people. Bathroom clean and well stocked but a little small.
Room service was okay.
Location is very good for those who like shopping, being next to Orchard Road.
Would have been very useful to have free wifi in the rooms as well. Would definitely stay here again.
This is hotel number 4 we've tried in our now favourite city - Singapore.
Having previously stayed at 1. Copthorne Kings, 2. Shangri-La and 3. Swisshotel Merchant Court, we stopped at Traders for 2 nights before heading back to the UK after arriving from Thailand. We were given a room that smelt very smokey, so we called reception and were given another room within 15 mins - very impressed. No trouble at all.
This hotel is never going to delight you as much as the Orchard Shangri-la would but for it's price, it's a great bet for somewhere clean, modern and adequate when you're not going to be spending a great deal of time in your hotel room! The pool is great - really big and open with a lovely lounger sun-trap area surrounding it. Hotel bar isn't anything to write home about but there are plenty of bars near Orchard.
Sampled the food which was fine and price not too bad. Singapore is terribly expensive any currently due to their currency strength and the UK's currency weakness! That's life!
10 mins walk to the TOP end of Orchard road and I'd say about 20 mins to the Orchard MRT. Felt perfectly safe to be walking back to the hotel late at night. It's gonna take you about 30 mins to get to Clarke Quay via the MRT and about 10 mins by taxi to Chimes for example. I'd say an hour start to finish to get to Sentosa.
One other thing .... I left my camera memory cards in the hotel room safe only to discover my error when safely back in the UK. I rang the hotel from the UK and was told they had already been handed in by the cleaning staff. They then sent them on to me, only charging for the carrier fare - absolutely made up .... Thanks Traders !
It's located at the center of the orchird road, the most sought after destination for tourist in singapore. The environment of the hotel is great and you get a very royal treatment as soon as you enter the hotel.
I stayed there for 2 weeks and it was a very good experience. The room are sufficiently spacious and all the besic necessity are met inside the rrom. Also you get an wireless as well as hi speed broadband in your room.
it is reasonably well priced and would recommend other to stay there.
Place to visit: there are lot of indian restaurant nearby, with orchid mall where you can straight walkin to from the hotel.
you can take night safari from the hotel as well as a visit to nearby botany garden is recommended.
Food: the food provided by the hotel are delicious
Traders Hotel is great for combining work and pleasure.
Great for morning walks in the nearby Botanical Gardens and the shopping arcade has some fantastic shops. Hotel's thoughtful siteseeing arrangements allow last minute planning for the evening. Orchard Road is very close (taxi recommended)
stayed here for a stopover before going to australia, recommended. rooms small but then you only use them to sleep in. staff could not do enough for you, hotel facilities excellent. would book to stay there again if in singapore
Stayed here for two nights on a world trip. Took advice from another reviewer and took bus 36 from the airport. Excellent advice, it was a small walk from the stop and cost us £2 each and took 1 hour with a good tour of the city thrown in. I think getting the train to Orchard would be a fair walk with luggage so the bus is a cheap and easier option. We were upgraded to the Traders Room. This was the smallest room on our world tour. Very pokey but it was very clean and modern and perfectly ok for two nights. Although l don't think we'd manage in such a small space for longer. Bathroom also very small with shower over bath. Nice touches, slippers, turn down service, newspapers and free bottled water. Free internet also excellent. Pool area was the best on our world tour. At last cushions on the loungers!!! The pool was huge and the area well kept and clean. The jacuzzi and steam room also a plus, I didn't use the gym. ( Walking Orchard Road is exercise enough)
We had breakfast in the Traders room, wonderful views, quiet and a good selection of food. Location wise, it is a bit of a walk to the start of Orchard but only took 10 mins or so. The transport system is cheap, realible and easy so you can get around easily in Singapore. But everything else is very expensive.
It is a best place i stay in a world. Club lounge, water pool on the roof. Great dishes excellent service. Nice atmosphere. The only thing i was missing is opening hours for the pool and gum. I come back to hotel very late during the business days...
My husband and I spent the night there after attending a holiday party there. We stayed ont he Trader's Club Floor. (Room 1732). The room was nice, but there were a few drawbacks to the room, upon entering the room, the closet stuck out from the wall about 6 inches. so you had to avoid hitting your shoulder on it weach time you entered the room. Also there was an armoir holding the Television, which was not a flat panel but a standard Box one. This limited the space to walk past the bed to the desk to less than half a meter between the bed and TV. Had they installed a Flat Panel on the wall, this would have increased the room size dramatically. Also the mini-bar ws over-priced even for Singapore (about 5 sing dollars for a can of soda??) The extra cost of staying on the Trader's floor (45 Sing Dollars USD) was well worth it, for the benefit of the Cocktail and Canape hour, held every evening from 530-730 pm). The Breakfast served in the Trader's Club lounge was also excellent. The only missing item was "made-to-order" eggs. Otherwise the peace and quiet that was had there as opposed to the general dining area in the Lobby was perfect. I thought we were to receive a daily newspaper, but never did get one, nor did the offer come through to press my husbands suit upon arrival.
The bathroom was adequately stocked, but was very small, you had little room to move in it, maybe 1 sq meter between the commode, sink and tub. All it all it is a convenient hotel with good amenities, but they need to do a little upgrading on the rooms. The parking was free in the Tanglin Mall Carpark beneath it, and that was nice as parking can be insanely overpriced.
Hotel is lovely. The rooms are a little bit smaller than you would expect, tend to trip over yourselves, and the bathrooms are tiny, no doubt about that, but it is incredibly clean, if not slightly in need of some refurbishment. The main areas of the hotel are spacious and immaculate.
We only had breakfast and snacks by the pool, but they were all of a very high standard.
All the staff were polite and really helpful, quite happy to point you in the right direction for shopping, restaurants etc.
A real bonus for this hotel was the complimentary hospitality lounge for late departures, it was attached to the spa and was really comfortable, providing spa and shower facilites before a long flight home.
I was concerned when we first arrived that it was a little bit out of the way, but it was only a short walk to Orchard Road, there are loads of taxis available from the hotel and bus stops opposite.
This city hotel, within walking distance of Orchard Road shops was one of best hotels weve stayed in. Nothing was to much trouble, the rooms were clean. We upgraded on arrival to Traders Club floor and all the privaleges that went with the upgrade , well worth the extra payment.
We were delighted that we stayed at Traders. The rooms were fine - not exceptional, but fine (think London sized and standard but cleaner). Staff were lovely if you made an effort to talk to them - and by that I mean say "hello", many people didn't. It is less than 5 minutes walk from Orchard Road and the MRT. The big selling point for us was that despite an 11 o'clock check out, you could use all the recreational facilities free of charge while they kept your luggage secure - changing room, showers, free toiletries, loungers and tea/cofee. That made a huge difference to us, we had a midnight flight and our last day could have been a nightmare but thanks to Traders we ended up with a day of being on holiday rather than a day of waiting to go to the airport. Thank you Traders, when we visit Singapore again (which we will) we will stay with you.
We arrived early, about 7.30 am after an overnight flight, and were able to go straight to our room, wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable with all expected facilities. We took the Traders Club option, which included breakfast and a happy hour with free drinks and excellent nibbles, as well as being a sociable time. The staff were all welcoming and helpful and the large (30 meter) swimming pool a wonderful way of winding down after a long day of sight-seeing. The hotel is close to the Botanic Gardens, including the Orchid Garden. This was our first stop for sight-seeing, they are special gardens and this is a gentle way of acclimatising after a long journey.
Traders is well located at the top of Tanglin Road, a short walk to Orchard Road, the MRT, or ,in the other direction the Botanic Garden. It has its own pedestrian connection with the Tanglin Mall which is useful for a light breakfast outside the hotel. The rooms are well organised and comfortable, have robes, slippers, iron and board and a safe and have lap-top internet available without charge. Excellent quick lifts. We did not use the restaurant prefering to eat out - Tanglin Mall has a very good Asian food courrt. Longer stayers will appreciate the laundry facilities on several floors Staff were uniformly cheerful and pleasant.
There is a hospitality room and guests can use the showers in the gym after checking out or arriving early as in our case. We had a late checkout - quite expensive at S$120 for half a day (from 12 noon to 6pm)
Most of the things to be said about this hotel are positive, and it represents good value for money in Singapore.
Good:
- Nice, quiet location, but with Tanglin Mall next door, all basic amenities are within easy reach. Taxis always waiting outside.
- Nice pool area
- Friendly staff at front desk and cleaning staff were nice too.
Bad:
- Club benefits upgrade is not value for money, the breakfast is poor, the staff more into chatting amongst themselves and when happy hour kicks in with free food and drinks, the place gets too packed, no seats available.
- Rooms are, as is too common in Singapore, small. Not the kind of room that will leave any lasting memories.
I was on the last weekend of a 85 weekend tour of Asia. Not that I'd been staying at expensive places like Traders very often but it was my last weekend away so Hey! I thought I'd treat myself. The room was very cozy and was nicely cleaned each day after I'd gone out. The free newspaper left on the door handle was a nice touch. Use of gym was good although they did insist I wore trainers - I resorted to buying some cheap sneakers having only worn flipflops for the past year!
The room alone cost £60 per night which came with free wifi. I thought of having breakfast in the hotel but not at their prices! So instead walked for ten minutes down to Orchard Road where there's a couple of cheaper cafes. Be warned Singapore is expensive! Having travelled throughout Thailand, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka etc., Singapore came as a shock to the system - a pint of beer was over £6! but at least the tube system is cheap and walking is cheaper. I chose Traders as I'd read good reviews here and wanted to be close to Orchard Road but it doesn't really matter where you stay in Singapore due to the subway system and cheap taxis.
I had no complaints about the hotel but would have preferred somewhere cheaper now I've received my credit card statement!
Amazing hotel with huge rooms, fabulous beds and a gorgeous pool. The staff were excellent and very attentive. I used the spa for a massage which was luxury itself. A wonderful place to stay en route to Australia.
This hotel offers excellent location to explore Singapore away from the busier areas. It is positioned at the far end of Orchard Road, I would recommend either the sia tour bus which is 12 dollars a day (6 if you travel with Singapore airlines and keep your flight ticket boarding pass). This gives you a ride around all of singapore and an idea of the sights to visit, definately recommend as a first port of call to get your bearings. It stops right outside the hotel on the opporsite side of the road, walk over the walkway to the bus stop. We experenced the singapore flier, deffinately recommend a try, China Town for authentic visit Da Dong restaurant it is on a corner, excellent duck, noodles, chicken etc, Little India try Jappura restaurant, it was the busiest we found and excellent food and finally a must vist to the Shashlick restaurant a local secret, go to far east shopping centre then to the 6th floor, the steaks and other meat dishes are the best I have ever tasted. We visited the zoo, Malacca, King Ho boat ride, Sentosa, botanic garden and boat quay etc all fantastic experiences. If you visit Sentosa, try the louge ride and remember when booking 'once is not enough' a tip for you. All in all it was an excellent adventure for our group and our second visit to Singapore and it was even better than the first visit, it just keeps on getting better all the time, we stayed for 6 nights and then a further night (1.5 days) before our return journey home. Would definately recommend a visit and this hotel is clean, friendly, convenient, I cannot fault it really a good stay was had by all. A final tip, if you book this hotel try and get breakfast included, we booked with trailfinders and it was exclusively included for all trailfinder's guests, otherwise it will cost you £20 per head each day which is quite pricey, but it is worth it as there is a lot of choice.
Have a happy stay if visiting any time soon................
We had booked the Traders Hotel through our travel agent and arrived at 7.00am off a Singapore Air flight from Athens feeling sub-human. While we were charged S100 for an upgrade/early check in/breakfasts/late check out, this was absolutely worth it. The Traders is not new but the rooms are of a very good standard, the breakfast was probably the best I have had (from much experience) and the staff were efficient and very helpful. The pool area is great too. All round a fantastic stay. Thank you.
Just back from a 3 day stay. We upgraded to the Club rooms which were definately worth it for the breakfast and cocktail hour alone.
The staff in the hotel are excellent and always so pleasant. I had read before we booked about the rooms being on the small size and they weren't wrong! The actual room was roughly the size of the cabin on our last cruise. The hotel itself is good though and has a lovely pool area and we especially liked the fact that the hotel connected to the Tanglin Mall. The hotels location is a bit out of the way but with a 10 min walk you are in the centre of Orchid Rd.
Taxi's are inexpensive and very easy to get. We found the shopping and drinks expensive mainly due to the exchange rate for GBP at the moment.
This was the second time I have stayed at the Traders and they made sure they greeted me as an old friend... This is their trade mark; the location is ok but doesn't have the views of Clark Quay, the rooms are small compared to other Singapore hotels BUT the rooms are v clean, the service is excellent and the staff seem to remember who you are and greet you as an old friend which I love.
The spa is well worth a visit for reasonably priced massages and facials - I recommend the Executive package - for equivalent of £45 for 90 minutes - great value and attention to detail.
Free wireless is included and is super fast - plus you are moments from Orchard road and the Tanglin Mall.
Traders in Singapore is a superb hotel - efficient and courteous staff, well located, pleasant public rooms and the most incredible breakfast.
Rooms may be small - but they are exceptionally well-designed to make best use of the available space. We, as most visitors, spent more time exploring the wonderful city - don't think many visitors to Singapore would wish to spend long periods of time in their hotel room. Distance from Orchard Road was easily walkable - even in the heat and humidity. Alternatively, taxis always available at the door of the hotel. Mall linked via walkway from hotel offered pleasant shopping (cafes, ATM, pharmacy, supermarket, clothes etc) literally on the doorstep.
The availability of the 'laundromat' areas on several floors offered a brilliant alternative to using the hotel laundry services. I do wish more hotels would adopt this idea, especially for travellers who travel onwards quickly - as we did on this trip - could not wait for 24 hour laundry service whilst in Singapore.
We stayed for only one night at Traders Singapore, and was quite pleased with it. Room service food was great, the breakfast (although pricy) was truly magnificent and the gym/pool/spa area was great. We really enjoyed this stay. The only minus we could think of was that the rooms were a little bit small, and it was a little too far away from the most interesting part of Orchard Rd, but ok.
The Traders Hotel is in a good location, within easy reach of the Botanical Gardens and a 10 minute walk to the nearest MRT (Orchard Rd). The hotel is attached to Tanglin Mall where there are a variety of shops and food outlets including Starbucks.
The rooms although not large are of an adequate size, are clean and have all the facilities you would expect from a 4* hotel. There is free wifi internet access for three days duration within the room.
The pool area is good with plenty of sunbeds and parasols, and during our stay there were plenty available. There is a pool bar and restaurant available with very good service.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and the variety of food available was excellent, and to suit all tastes. The staff without exception, were very friendly and helpfull and were keen to provide a good service.
We went tothis hotel for our honeymoon and it was a lovely friendly welcoming hotel. We just wish we could have stayed longer than 6 days. It's busy in Singapore and quite expensive but so worth the money. I would deffo visit again.
I stayed here for a business trip and I must say the rooms are incredibly cramped. The distance between the bed and the TV felt like less than 2 feet apart. I lost count how many times I kept bumping into the furnitures and went home with bruises.
Walking to Orchard takes 15 mins at least, and thats not even the middle section of Orchard..
Big mistake to stay here unless you like big chain hotels without much character. Though described as close to Orchard Road and the malls, it is 20 mins walk to top end of Orchard Road and same distance to the metro station - not good in 32 degree heat. it is attached to a small mall which is ok, but be aware that if you stay here to shop (as we did) it is a long way to the better malls on the Orchard Road. It's also a long way to the main sights in the colonial district, the marina, chinatown, little india etc, though taxis are cheap (unless you want a 20 minute sweaty walk to the metro). No decent restaurants or hawker centres nearby (fast food only in the mall) and the hotel's chinese restaurant is about the best there is in the area. We asked for a no smoking room and though the whole floor was supposed to be non smoking, the room stank of cigarette smoke, though reception quickly and efficiently moved us to another room. The whole hotel smells damp and musty though. On our first trip to Singapore we stayed at the Scarlet in Chinatown which was similar price but 5 star standard. Though there is a business centre for access to PCs, it has restricted opening hours, and though advertised in room as open at 8am, doesn't open until 10am - again staff were very good and opened it up for us to check in on-line and print our boarding passes, and also to assist another guest who was there on business and not happy about lack of facilities.
This is my first time staying at the Traders chain (have stayed at several Shangrila's with good experiences) and since this was a busy business trip, I figured I would not get to enjoy the hotel as much and the Singapore Shangrila is a bit out of the way. I must say i was rather disappointed with their service, especially since I chose to stay in the Traders Club, which was advertised as to have "a higher standard of accommodation, personalised service and a host of special privileges and amenities" for the frequent traveler (quote from their website). The hotel appeared aged but rooms--smaller than expected--were generally well kept up; location not central on Orchard road but fit my purpose. To make a long story short, on Day2 of my 4D stay, my room had a leak that was not fixable and I had to move--not once but 3 times (I forget!) since I had some specific requests--THAT'S why I chose the more expensive Traders Club rooms instead of one of their regular rooms!! So after spending about 1-2h repacking and moving around and re-unpacking, you would think that the hotel would be bending over backwards to apologize for this. Yes, I did get a phone call from the manager to apologize for the inconvenience, but that was IT.... Nothing special or 'personalized' about the service!! To be fair, the quality of the food (bkft & evening cocktails) was quite good, but the service was definitely disappointing, especially given that this was Traders Club, especially given that this was Singapore, service city of the world as they like to think. Anyway, a sorely disapointing stay which will make me think twice about staying at this chain again.
the rooms are small with little to offer. the plus is free internet and located at the very end of the Orchard Road shopping area, near the embassies and botanical garden
Just off Orchard Road, close enough to be in walking distance, far enough so it wasn't too busy. The hotel was clean, uptodate, the staff were very friendly and the hotel pool was nicely kept and a welcome relief to the heat in the afternoon after a trip out.
1) Breakfast - vast choice of food with good quality
2) Nice pool area
3) Spa
The bad:
1) Room cleaning service - our cleaner was a Chinese immigrant who could speak only basic English and missed several things like cleaning up the tea cups, replacing the tea bags, leaving sufficient number of towels etc. We had to complain 3 times before anything changed, and the cleaner had obviously been informed of our complaint because she behaved highly obnoxiously towards my wife, shaking the bed sheets in her face when we returned to our room just as she was finishing. A very uncomfortable experience and something that tarnished our stay. The hotel staff were way to slow to respond to this issue.
2) Breakfast area was often overcrowded.
3) Room was very small and the only other option was a suite costing 50% more.
We expected better and will not stay at this hotel again.
My wife and I stayed at Traders Hotel for three nights. Previously, we had considered Traders a higher-priced hotel for business travelers at the extreme end of Orchard Road, but in late July, it offered the best value compared with other Orchard Road hotels: a discount for advance payment and a rate that included free broadband access but no breakfast (there are so many low-priced breakfast options in Singapore). Most of our shopping was at the Orchard Road area near Somerset MRT station, and connection to Somerset by bus was easy on buses 111, 123, and 174. On the return trip by bus, 111, 123, and 174 will drop you on Grange Road right across the street from the Traders.
We were in room 1108 with a good view of the pool and the Shangri-la Hotel on the horizon. We were impressed with the little details in the comparatively small but efficient room and bathroom. We had 4 large suitcases and carry-on bags, and we stored them in the room without problem. There are small glowing lights on the switches that turn on night-lights under each bedside table so you can find them in the dark. There is an area in the center of the mirror in bathroom that is mist-free. There is a bedside clock that lights up when you hold it (amazing that no one tries to steal it). There is a refrigerator but no freezer, but we left our ice packs at reception, and they were brought to us fully frozen when we checked out.
There were no noises in the hall or from neighbors even though the neighboring rooms were occupied. Floors and ceilings don’t transmit sound. The TV was inside of a wooden cabinet that seems to direct sound to the bed. When one arrives at the bank of lifts, one lift usually is open and waiting to receive riders. Tanglin Mall includes a food court and supermarket in the basement, and it is connected to Traders by a pedestrian bridge that is open from 10 am to 10 pm, but you can enter the mall by other routes before 10.
The free broadband connection had reasonable speed, and it was always reliable. The cable outlet was on the writing desk facing the window, and two electrical outlets were available on the side of the desk. There is a flashlight in the nightstand. The cable TV channels included HBO. It is possible to control both the wind and temperature, but we had a bit of a problem making the room frigid enough so we could sleep under the rather heavy single blanket that was wrapped in a sheet.
When we checked in, the reception desk gave us permission to check out two hours late on our check-out day. There seemed to be a roaming supervisor around the reception desk who helps people when all stations are serving guests. We noticed that rooms were being cleaned in the late afternoon and that most requests were handled by the operator instead of by individual departments such as housekeeping. Checking in and out was fast and easy. We did not use business facilities, fitness center, restaurants, or the pool, but we found that Traders was an excellent value for shopping and tranquility for recovering from jetlag after a long flight across the Pacific.
We stayed at the Traders on our way back from Bali for 2 nights as a stopover holiday booked with Singapore Airlines. We had booked a triple room and got an appartment with all the amenities (bath robes, slippers, turn-down service, etc.) and a beautiful view over Singapore. We were also asked if we wanted an upgrade which would allow us the use of the Club Lounge and its privileges for 80 SGD per night for the 3 of us. This was just great and we felt pampered. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The location is good, at the beginning of Orchard Road for those who want to shop until they drop, close to Dempsey for antiques and fine al fresco dining and the Botanical Gardens for nature lovers. They even had the kindness to put a birthday cake into our appartment for our son's 13th birthday. We hadn't said anything, but guest relations saw the date on the check-in form. We were impressed. We would definitely stay at the Traders again.
We stayed at Traders Hotel Singapore as part of a prize won on "The Price is Right." The staff was consistently very welcoming and friendly. While our room was just a tad on the smallish size (could have had another 8-10" of walking space between the foot of the bed and the t.v. cabinet), it was very clean and very comfortable. The bed and bath linens were luxurious; the mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The shower
would occasionally have temperature variances, but it was very clean and nice. The walls were quite soundproof (couldn't hear our neighbors or people above or below us), and the windows had excellent light-blocking draperies. In the humid environment of Singapore, we were thrilled to come "home" to our wonderfully air-conditioned hotel/room after each of our outings about the island! The internet connection in our room worked well with the laptop and power converter that we brought with us. Each morning we enjoyed the vast variety of delicious foods at the buffet breakfast in Cafe Biz.,
where the staff was always very friendly. Having the Tanglin Mall adjoining our hotel was a real plus, and having the Orchard Road shopping within just a few quick blocks walking distance from the hotel makes it an excellent location for people who like to shop. All in all, our stay at the Traders Hotel was wonderful -- AN EXCELLENT PRIZE :-)
From the moment we stepped in the hotel we had fantastic customer service. Fresh fruits, baby cot and an upgraded room made our stay even better. The deluxe room is a bit tiny though. The staffs were efficient and helpful.
Baby Elliot loves the king size bed which was very comfortable, he fell asleep as soon as his head hits the down pillows.
The location of the hotel is not too far from Orchard Road, but one still have to rely on a cab to get to the central shopping district.
Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel and our only disappointment was that we only found out that the hotel actually connects to TANGLIN MALL on our last day :#
We had been recommended this hotel by a friend who has stayed there on a number of occassions. It's location is excellent easy walk to Orchard Rd and all the shopping districts, easy to get transport etc, howeer we had booked a non-smoking room with queen size bed, we instead got a smoking room with twin beds, on returning to reception to say that we are not happy with the room and that we add booked non-smoking, queen bed we where offered a upgrade with breakfast package for a lot more money, when this was refused we where told that nothing good be done as hotel booked out, staff member was very un-helpful. We decided to stay because we where flying out next night for europe so only staying one night. There is a shopping centre behind hotel where you can get a good breakfast for way less than what hotel charges. The only thing I can say about Traders is truly excellent location
We stayed in the club class rooms (room 1402) as other reveiwer have already said the room are on the small side , but are ideal for what we needed , spotlessly clean and very well equipped king size bed, fridge, tv, iron, plus board, and the bathroom was full of everything you might need, eg,tooth brush, paste, razor, shaving foame, you name it and it was there. The service in the club lounge was just super and special thanks must go to Kushboo who looked after our every needs . Snacks provided at coctail hours were extensive and yummie. The price of the club class was well worth it as the drink prices (soft or alcoholic ) are a bit on the prices side . We went to the bar for a nightcap and had a pint of tiger beer it cost S$19.70 needless to say we never went back . Swimming pool area was also, nice and we enjoyed a few days at the pool with towels provided. All hotel staff were friendly, attentive and efficient .The shopping mall ( Tangling Mall ) served us well for all our basic needs and lunchtime snacks as it has a McDonalds, Starbucks and a few bakeries. Hotel has a coin operated laundry room allowing guests to wash and dry their laundry for $9 per load. Although taxis are reletevely cheap, we found the underground service to be cheap fast and also a convenient way to get around. We would certainly reccommend this hotel to anyone visiting Singapore.
One expects rooms and service to be excellent in Singapore. But it was the extra touches that made our stay one we will remember. From the time we were politely met at the airport following a short and tiring overnight trip from a long assignment in a developing country to checkout we were treated well. We had made the reservation from Canada for an early morning arrival. We were surprised to have been met at the door by a charming lady who took us to our room ... before 8:00 a.m. Following a short sleep we had a late lunch served quickly so we could avail ourselves of the free shuttle to the Orchard Road shopping area and access to the MRT.
The breakfast on the Traders Club floor, happy hour, and free internet were well worth the extra cost. While we were on a short holiday, we were still able to meet our business responsibilities. The staff organized tours, changed money, answered questions, and always provided advice to help us best enjoy what Singapore had to offer at the best prices - even if it meant less income for the hotel. THAT is service. No, Traders is not one of the best hotels in Asia. It isn't even the best hotel in its part of the city. But if offers genuinely friendly service at a good price in an easily accessible part of the city. I plan to make this my hotel in Singapore.
I was nearly put off staying at this hotel, after reading some of the reviews. But I'm glad I gave it a go.
The rooms are on the small side, but you would find the same in any big city. The room was clean, modern and functional and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom on the other hand was small, but very clean, although it was everything you needed.
For an 80 Singapore dollars per room per night, you get access to the Traders Club Lounge. This give you and your partner buffet breakfast, unlimited cocktails/alcoholic drinks and nibbles in the evening, hot beverages/soft drinks throughout the day, late checkout at 6pm, and unlimited internet access.
The hotel is in a great location for the Orchard Road area, which is about 5 minutes walk. The underground is about 10 minutes walk if you don't get stuck in a crowd of people. The bus stop for the hop on - hop off bus is just across the road.
We stayed twice in the Trader's, on the way to Madagascar and 3 nights on our return to Oz. We stayed on the 14th floor which is part of the Trader's Club floors, the room's were fine, tad small but comfy, the breakfast on offer was brilliant also the service and the view. Between 5.30 and 7.30 in the evening complimentry canape's and beverages are served, a lovley way to unwind from a hectic day around Singapore. You are greeted buy your names and lots of warm hospitality. Will stay again on next stop over.
I chose Traders again because the price was right. I have stayed here before, but now my partner has a touch of sleep problems and snores like you wouldn't believe! So we order twin beds. This room was so tiny that the 'twin beds' were just squashed together like a King bed, there was really no difference. You wouldn't want to be sharing with someone you didn't know well because it's exactly like sleeping together. You could barely move in this room on the sixth floor. If you want separate beds I would not recommend traders. It's also showing it's age, the foyer has been renovated in the last year or so but the rooms have not.
The pool is lovely and gets the sun, unlike many in Singapore. Sadly, this trip I needed it because I spent most of the day sleeping there as I got no sleep at night.
Great service. Great food. The buffet at the lobby is awesome, eventhough its a little pricey, its worth it. Had stayed in the suite on the 12th floor and it was great. Great view of the shopping district from the rooms. Located at the end of Orchard Road, its a good walk to the main shopping mall.
Reviews
Room Service: Excellent
Traders Hotel is great for combining work and pleasure.
Great for morning walks in the nearby Botanical Gardens and the shopping arcade has some fantastic shops. Hotel's thoughtful siteseeing arrangements allow last minute planning for the evening. Orchard Road is very close (taxi recommended)
Food is OK
Rooms are large by Singapore standards!
Hotel's internet service is virus prone
stayed here for a stopover before going to australia, recommended. rooms small but then you only use them to sleep in. staff could not do enough for you, hotel facilities excellent. would book to stay there again if in singapore
Stayed at Traders in November.
Would you this hotel again.
Would not hesitate to return.

We would definately stay at this hotel again.
The hotel was clean, uptodate, the staff were very friendly and the hotel pool was nicely kept and a welcome relief to the heat in the afternoon after a trip out.
room and service were good, but anywhere you want to go, you will have to use taxis.
Orchard road is theoretically 200m from the hotel, but just the end of it.
You will have to walk another mile or so to enter the interesting part.
To chinatown, or the harbor, you will have to use taxi.
