Not a top of the market hotel but conveniently located and very good value for money

Singapore is sorely lacking in affordable accomodations, and this hotel proves it. It is one of only a handful of "affordable" (80SGD and below) hotels in the city, and just like the others, it should probably be avoided.

The rooms COULD have a certain old-style cachet, if they were not let go like the rest of the hotel is. Cleanliness is very spotty, and I ended up with at least one big cockroach in my room in just a one night stay. In terms of service or amenities, it's practically non-existant, although the rooms do have broadband internet.

I stayed there as a last resort for one night, and won't go back. It's just too dingy for the price. But since affordable hotels in Singapore are really rare, just be wary of your finances if you are vacationing there, as staying at the Sloane Court will undoubtedly leave a bad impression on your trip.

I was recommended this hotel via hotel.com, did not see the reviews earlier but when I wanted to cancel for want of a better hotel, the daggers and blades came out.

very bad impression - never want to deal with them again. this looks like the ugly side of singapore.

So Sad to see the Sloane Court sink to its present level. I and many of my friends have been using the hotel for over thirty years, yes thirty, maybe even longer!! It was and is a family owned business, but as regular guests we have seen the inner struggle for control within the said family for quite some time. The Sloane used to be a regular meeting point for many of Singapore’s well known expatriate characters, and the restaurant was always busy. During my last and final visit I was discussed with the now new family “Towkay” extremely arrogant and rude to a point were the loyal staff were very embarrassed. The rooms were a disgrace and the room rates ???? Goodbye Sloane, goodbye to all the staff I will miss you all.

when i first come to this place i just felt i had a mistake on my trip to singapore..

we pay too much for 3 nite stay without breakfast, guess i could have more hospitality from other hotel in singapore with the same price.

the room is a little bit old fashioned, but its relevant with their tagline, "Traditional English Country Inn Atmosphere" ( in asia, come on man..??)

i didnt expected to watch tv all day in my vacation, but their TV is really annoying from it size, color and lack of choice.

nearby attraction is the orchard road, that's the only things that look good from the hotel.

this is the last hotel you wanna stay. With the same price you can get much much better hotels in singapore. The owner tried to charge you in whatever way she can. The condition of the rooms are so bad. They have only the minimal basic stuff. The location is very bad as well. Not near the MRT station at all. The hotel is very run-down, not only the room but everything inside. The stuff was not friendly and they lied to you to make sure that you stay in their hotel. If you happen to stay there, make sure that whatever they said are in black and white, if not, whatever they promised today is not valid tomorrow. Very sucky hotel. Not sure how it calls itself a hotel. I think it is worse than a hostel. Pleaes avoid it if you can.

I just spent one night at this hotel and while i was ready to give it an 'okay, but with some problems' until i was ready to check out.

On first arrival, the hotel has definite 'run down' feeling. A dark and dank front desk smelling very strongly of mildew, it just feels tired. On the way to the room, you pass through a hallway where you get visibility of all the hotels discards and junk, which is really a turn off.

The room itself however was very clean and the bathroom was surprisingly nice and mold/mildew free. Bedcovers a bit grimey, TV very small, but overall the room was ok.

My big problem occured though with the hotel staff. As a man alone checking-in, they warned me that if i had an extra person, i would have to pay extra. I thought it was an odd warning, but said of course (why wouldn't I). I was at the hotel alone and no one else joined me at all through the night.

Upon check out however, they accused me of having an extra person and of bringing 'my girlfriend' into the hotel. They went so far as to claim the landlady saw me leaving with this mystery woman in the middle of the night (a complete lie, i went out at 23:30 by myself and even spoke with the landlady as the front door was locked)! Worse, the landlady looked me in the eye and continued to claim my girlfriend was with me and that the girl was still at the hotel. I asked her to get the girl and she said oh she must have just left.

I was completely flabergasted by the outright dishonesty of the staff. I hoped that perhaps the landlady was mistaking me for someone else from the evening, but then when she told me the girl was still there (and then miraculously disappeared) i knew it was an outright lie. She also refused to go the room to see the single bed with the almost unruffled sheets.

I don't know why the hotel would go so out of their way and be so dishonest as to accuse a guest of such misconduct, simply to extract 30 SGDs from the guest.

I asked for an apology and was refused one. I refused to pay for the extra guest and providing this write up is about the only thing i can do.

Stay away from this hotel. They are clearly very dishonest.

I was offered this hotel at the Airport Hotels Desk in arrivals at Changi Airport as a last resort. Singapore was very very busy.

The brochure I was given, suggested a small quaint out of the way hotel.

Set in the middle of a quiet residential area no where near the MRT...It was VERY out of the way.. nearest shop/ eating place at least a 7 minute hot humid walk.

Quaint from the outside perhaps.. dire from the inside definitely. The sign outside hotel eb=ntrance read 'Restaurant closed Today' but I suggest from the faded and permanent fixture the restaurant had been closed for many yesterdays as well.

The reception area comprised of a tiny cramped dark dank area with torn plastic covered seats, peeling paint and faded notices with aged brown sellotaped corners.

Its only one storey so no lift of course ( so no good for the disabled) and then you find your ermmm... room.

The pictures below say it all.. look out for no shower curtain but shower set against window curtain (not waterproof) look for bare wire cables over 'dressing table' then notice only one tap on basin, no light bulbs in bathroom fittings, mattress on raised wooden floor = bed and TV screen smaller than a small laptop.

They were charging more for this standard room than I would normally pay in a 4 star hotel in Singapore.. I would rate this as a one star hotel, no more and compare the pics I have included with their brochure pics.

In their defense they said the pics on their one page brochure were actually of a superior room ie.... only superior rooms come with bed, shower curtain, two taps, light fittings and light bulbs???? As I never saw a superior room I cannot comment.

I was given a total refund for the nights I refused to stay ie all but my first night, and even the desk staff were sympathetic to my total misgivings and embarassed by their "hotels" sad existence I believe.

I am not a vindictive person, as I said I was reimbursed for the nights I refused to stay but I would hate other travellers to be misled by their brochure as I was... if you are a very budget traveller you will have stayed in similar places or worse but you will not have paid any where near what they were charging.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

I subsequently moved to a small clean, friendly chinatown hotel at a MUCH cheaper rate with agreeable breakfast included, free water bottles in room and 24 hour free cable broadband internet connection, masses of shops and restaurants on doorstep and within walking distance of downtown Singapore.

This hotel is in desperate need of maintenance and a general clean-up. I had the feeling that everything gets done on a highly limited budget; from the untrained staff to the bed linen and towels. Although the rates and good, there are better places in Singapore in the same price range.

Booked it via [--]

Service was below par, bathroom was unique. Staff was not very friendly as they probably did not have necessary training or orientation. Probably ran the same way since the 1940's.

There are certainly better hotels in Singapore but the price for this hotel was very sharp.
