Stayed for 2 weeks over christmas & new year, in the Garden Wing. Rooms spacious and VERY clean. Free internet connection was a big bonus for us as our teenage daughter spent most of her time on her lap top (when in room) Staff very friendly & ultra polite. Do yourself a favour & have breakfast in The Line SUPER & a huge variety of foods. Also best air conditioning, efficient & quiet. Go treat yourself!

Shangri-La has a top notch rooms and service. The rooms are large, very much comfortable and beautifully decorated. It has a very beautiful swimming pool, surrounded by green lush parks making it one of the most beautiful resort hotel in Singapore. The lobby is massive and it has attentive staff catering to your needs from the doorstep. It has numerous restaurants in the hotel from Chinese, Japanese to international buffet restaurant. Important tips: Try their brunch on Sunday, Shangri-La has the best seafood buffet in town. I have been to many different brunch places in Singapore and Shangri-La appears to be top notch!

However, Shangri-La is located on the tip of Orchard Road. It is a bit of a distance to walk down to Orchard Road where the shopping belts are. Admittedly, I love to be in Shangri-La to have a tranquil surroundings in the tropical island of Singapore. Though if you want to have an easier access to the shopping centers, Shangri-La may not be your best option.

All in all, I love the hotel. It is very beautiful and the Sunday brunch is super excellent. Love the fresh seafood, I certainly will be coming back for the seafood feast!! :)

The Shangri La Hotel has a wonderful pool. It has a great location, very near to Orchard road and thats where all the shopping is!!!!! But one thing that'll make your mouth water is the breakfast! It has a HUGE buffet from asian food, to pastrys, to pancakes, anything you can imagine!the rooms are good and it has room wings, the main wing and the garden wing. It is very well mainted and has lovely staff.

If I could give this hotel 6,7 or 10 stars I would, for quality and even more so for value.

We stayed on the Club level in the Tower wing, with Horizon Club access, as part of a ten-day R&R break with a bit of shopping.

Accommodation: The room (a premier room) was large and extremely comfortable, with a great bed, nice reading alcove and very comfortable desk. Particularly nice bathroom with high-quality shampoos etc (according to my wife).

Facilities: Pool was beautiful with very helpful pool staff who would help find and prepare lounges. Tennis courts with an excellent Australian tennis coach…nice gardens and relaxing carp pools/waterfalls.

Restaurants: particularly good. The Chinese restaurant was high quality and probably best of the bunch. The Line cafe was not quite as impressive as I had been led to believe at dinner time. But the breakfasts there were incredible, with Chinese, Japanese, Western and Indian warm breakfasts all available (Indian was particularly good). The breakfast up at the Club level is very refined and relaxing.

Horizon club: For the $80 or so per night extra that you pay for club level this really transformed the holiday. The drinks/supper hour had a great atmosphere and it was a great place to come back to after wandering around Singapore in June. Fairoz and the team were superb, going to extraordinary lengths to ensure we were enjoying ourselves, and taking particular care of our four-year-old son, delivering "mail" from cartoon characters like Spongebob and so on to keep him entertained.

PS: 'free' broadband internet was the icing on the cake. Not having to shell out an extra $30 per day for access to email felt like a very generous gesture from Shangri-La and other hotels should take note.

So many five-star hotels, even ones that cost a lot more than this one, just don't deliver and end up making excuses all the time. In summary, this is a five-star hotel that actually feels like one in every respect.

PS: lots of people seem reluctant to be away from Orchard Road. Personally I walked down to Takashimaya from the hotel many times, in the middle of summer; I found that the location gave you the feel of a country resort but with easy accessibility to shopping by foot, or a quick cab there or to the river.

On a trip to Singapore, stayed a few nights. the service was great, I loved the fact that the employees were dressed up in traditional chinese attire. the room was spacious, the Nature walk by the pool was a pretty neat idea, kind of relaxing. The best part is the Restaurants they have inside. I went to the Rose Veranda a few times for tea and dinner. great selection of teas..102 of them in fact. The bufffet was delicious and the food was fresh. you could order a la carte as well. If you want to have a nice experience, try this hotel. you won't be let down.

The “Shang” as its often called still exceeds my expectations. On a recent stay during the Christmas/New Year period, it was a delight.. nothing was any trouble for the staff, and all that was promised was delivered. The Valley Wing, like the Shangri-la it self is an oasis of calm looking out on the gardens and pool area. The Valley Wing staff are all professional and courteous and has a wealth of local knowledge that they easily share. On my recent visit and running a tad late, I actually saw the manager run to get me a last minute coffee on my departure after a casual comment about not have a coffee yet!! The rooms are stylish, spacious and very well serviced, and the staff soon remembers your name, past visits and your preferred drink or coffee in the morning. Could you find a better hotel, depending on your requirements, perhaps, could you find a hotel with better consistency of service and attitude, I doubt that very much. The Shangri-la Singapore is a total full service hotel, and I am not aware of any other hotel that offers the level of service, dining alternatives, outdoor pool area and gardens in Singapore.

I stayed on Jan 1st this year at the Shangri-La., as I was taking a one day break enroute back to India from my holiday in Penang. The Shangri_La is outstanding. The Garden wing is built like a tropical forest. Rooms are spacious and service is impecable. The most astounding is the Breakfast spread - huge is mild statement. They actually have cross road markers at the intersections, indicating the food type - Chines, Malay, Indian, Continental, Fruits.....

The service was typical ShangriLa - superb. The dinner at the restaurant The Line, was impecabble and completely enjoyable

The location is a little exclusive - in a very quite but upmarket area, but the hotel has regular coach service to Orchard Road malls

Overall, completely impressed with the House Keeping, efficient to the T

Highly recommended, if you can afford the price - Superb Experience

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of November. It is in a good location – about a 5 minute walk to the end of Orchard Road (downhill). There is a complementary shuttle bus (I think every hour) that drops you off near the MRT station on Orchard Road.

We only ate breakfast on one morning at the Line restaurant. There was a good choice of food. Nothing special though.

The swimming pool and gardens were very nice. Lobby, door staff and concierge were all helpful and pleasant.

We walked to Orchard Road and used the Singapore Airlines Hop On/Hop Off bus. If you keep your boarding pass you get this at a discounted rate (S$12) for the day. We went on the Singapore Flyer (bit like the London Eye) and the views were great. If you haven’t been to Singapore before it enables you to get your bearings. The SIA bus has a stop at the flyer.

Don’t know if we would stay here again as we prefer the Marina Bay area but would recommend this hotel if you want easy access to Orchard Road without all the noise.

Having stayed in Shangril-la's over the years, they typically offer top facilities & service at a price. I agree with other commentators the peace and quiet is great, however we had chewing gum left in the room, had housekeeping not turn up one day and the Garden wing we stayed in was tired and needed investment in new bathrooms and technical equipment. I agree still grand, but for the price think they need to do a little better than we received.

There was someone to greet / receive us when we stepped foot in the lobby of the hotel,

and made sure we knew where to go to check-in.

Very spacious rooms and bathroom. though a little outdated ( 80s decor ).

Incredible buffet breakfast - huge selection. However alacarte menu for supper was very limited and expensive.

Staff was more knowledgeable than usual ( even for the lift attendant ) and helpful ( would go out of their way to find out about internet access ).

Big resort-like pool - you do not feel like you're actually in the city.

It's a bit of a walk to Orchard Road ( especially with young children ) but there's a complimentary shuttle service every hour.

Room

My wife, 9 month old child and I stayed on the 8th floor of the Garden Wing in December 2009. The room had a nice, large balcony with a decent view and nice breeze. They provided a great crib for the baby which was very useful. The room was pretty large and the free broadband internet access was nice to have.

General

This is a nice hotel, although a bit older than many others in its category so it's not super modern. Overall, our only complaint was that the food and drinks were way overpriced (I know most hotels are like this but this seemed even more expensive than normal). We just purchased a bunch of snacks and drinks from a convenience store and put them in the fridge though so it wasn't a big deal.

Facilities

They have a nice, large pool and a pretty good gym, sauna and steam room.

Location

This is a little bit off the main shopping area of Orchard road. It's not too far and could be walked but we took a taxi every time (and I assume anyone with children would do the same). We thought the location was fine, but if you want shopping right at your doorstep, this is probably not the best place.

I have to tip my hat off to all the staff to thank them for our very memorable stay (with the one exception of a snotty hostess who didn't like us sitting down in the lobby rest area without buying a drink or a meal - please remedy management)

The brilliant concierge Johnny Hor, the super efficient bellboys, and the lovely hostess ladies casually drifting around the inner lobby area really do deliver the most personal of services making you feel part of the family. How they remember all the guests names is a mystery to me.

I also have to say the service we had when dining in the in-house Chinese Restaurant (sorry the name escapes me) were incredible.

Thanks also to the reception staff for the upgrade to the garden wing, good sized rooms in a quiet location, just what we wanted.

Many folk will I am sure find the location too far from the action, but transport is very cheap and sometimes it is highly desirable to escape the crowds and noise, particularly if you want a good nights sleep.

I cannot remember a single hotel we have visited which has offered such a vast selection of breakfast options - it is worth staying here for the breakfast alone.

Worth mentioning that the hotel hosted an evening event for a number of diplomats and other VIPs, if it is good enough for them........then it was certainly good enough for us!

We booked 4 rooms in this hotel through a cousin who apparently has often used this hotel for her business colleagues and associates. We were in Singapore for her wedding celebration and it turned out to be a perfect holiday.

Rooms had a very pleasant ambiance and were immaculately cleaned daily. Service staff were very friendly and alwasy helpful (nothing is too difficult for them). Some of the housekeeping staff had very little English but this was not a problem as we can always dial the hotel's Service Centre for requests.

Location is right in the city but we must walk a bit to Orchard Road. The hotel provides daily shuttles to Takashimaya and other shopping spots - great service with reliable timing.

Fitness centre and swimming pool were so nice: lots of sporting equipments, immaculately clean, pleasant ambiance, very helpful staff/attendants. The lockers are so clean; better than those in most city hotels we have ever stayed. Free internet access with high speed was a great plus.

We will come back to this hotel in our next Singapore trip.

I have been staying at the SHANG on and off since 1973. The old lady can still hold her head up mainly due to the amount of land surrounding the property. This gives you a feeling of being outside the hustle of the town. It was a great hotel 25 years ago but now has stiff competition, My desision to stay usually depends on what deals are on offer, the choice is great in singapore so its worth trying out new properties!

We've stayed here a couple of times over the past several months. On both occassions, by choice, we've stayed in a pool view garden wing room. We like the balcony and enjoy the relaxed tropical feel and outlook of the room. It's a welcome escape from the 'busyness' that is Singapore. I will say the bathrooms in these rooms, while serviceable are in dire need of refurbishment and if you enjoy lingering in a beautiful bathroom you may be somewhat disappointed! (Unless you're into vintage)

Breakfast at the Line restuarant is outstanding and the evening Buffet scrumptious (make sure you book, it's very busy) but it is Blu that sits atop the building that is the winner and if you can - go and treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience.

We've found the staff to be welcoming and gracious when we have sought their assistance.

My only complaint with regard to the pool view rooms is, aside from the bathroom, the fact that the executive floor isn't accessible when booking this wing. We have forgone the executive floor in preference to the relaxed feel of the pool view rooms, but it would improve the experience if this service was available.

I really have mixed feelings about this property . The location is a major drawback.

The Hotel gives a feeling of being to large , like living in Grand central Station. This can be avoided by staying in the tower section , where the rooms are better as well.

The rooms otherwise are spacious , but decor and comfort level not up par with newer Shang properties elsewhere in Asia.

If you stay on the club level you will have access to the club lounge for breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks during the day. The club lounge is very nice , actually one of the nicest in Singapore.

Overall, this hotel earns its keep as a 5 star hotel. The locals call it a 6 star hotel. I would agree, except for two things. I'm going to talk about these two things at length here, but really it's a great hotel. It has possibly the best bed I've ever slept in, and the sun room window in my room was incredible (Tower Wing section).

(1) The shower temperature does not remain steady. It fluctuates fairly wildly, especially during peak showering hours, but all during the day as well. This forces you to take a much cooler shower rather than risk being burnt.

(2) The air-conditioning works great, until about 3/4 of the way through the night, when it continues to blow air but it is no longer cool. You have to get up, remove your keycard, and stick it back in, to reset the room and have it blow cool air. It only happens in the middle of the night so I was unable to re-create the problem for hotel staff.

One last thing, that I shouldn't really complain about, but will... They really really REALLY want to clean your hotel room every day, and don't take "private" for an answer. This is not unusual for a high class hotel, but it annoys the heck out of me anyways.

Choose this hotel as it seemed like a tropical oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city and were not disappointed. The gardens are amazing, as is the swimming pool. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had complementary breakfast which was very good. The selection was amazing. It was perfectly placed for Orchard Road and was close to buses and trains (approx 5 mins walk away). However, if you didn't want to walk there was a complementary shuttle. Will definately stay here again when in Singapore.

Although I have visited Singapore dozens of times over the years, I have tended to stay in the City Hall area of the city (Raffles, InterContinental, Mandarin Oriental, Conrad). Shangri La is a bit out-on-a-limb compared with these hotels in one sense, but there's a fair amount of life at the other end of Orchard Road and the location adds maybe five minutes to the journey time to CBD compared with those other hotels. It's just a short walk to Emerald Hill which has some nice bars & nightlife. Plus of course you're much closer to the shopping in Orchard Road than you would be at City Hall. Not that I like to shop.....

The hotel is quite grand - the night I arrived there was a big function going on, with Lambourghini, Ferrari and Porsche sports-cars stacked up outside the hotel entrance and many glamorous people arriving.

Arrival was as good as I'd hope for a luxury hotel, with my bags lifted swiftly from cab, tagged and taken to my room while I was escorted to reception and checked in. Friendly and efficient.

Room was nice, with decent desk. Comfortable bed.

I don't remember eating any meals in the hotel.

My husband and two friends are newly retired. We chose Singapore to celebrate. The hotel experience was ideal. We chose the Executive Floor, as in other Shangri La's, well worth it for the service. The food was all round excellent, for breakfast alternating with the Blu and the Line, throughout the day snacks and canapes in the evening in the Horizon Lounge. Occasionally the service was confused or slow, juggling the numbers with the staff available, example evening cocktails, but when concern shown the staff were immediately willing to put things right. So no big grouch! The swimming pool and lush tropical gardens were very pleasant. Lobby and door staff most helpful and courteous. Overall we enjoyed staying there and would happily return.

There are lots of interesting night time venues. Marina, Clarkes Quay, Chinatown, Boat Quay. Singapore is a place you feel safe in. Daytime must see... The Botanical Gardens.. so good we made two trips during our stay. Awesome Orchid Gardens!

When we last visited Singapore we stayed at the Hyatt, what a shame we didnt stay there again this time.

We were picked up at airport very punctually and whisked to the hotel in a beautiful merc. On arrival we were greeted and taken straight to our room, not a word was spoken to us whilst being escorted to our room. We had booked a club room which comes with special privileges, we were told NOTHING, we had to enquire as to the time of the complimentary cocktail hour. We had no idea where anything was, where to eat etc but worked it out ourselves, not good enough for this standard of hotel.

Club Lounge is slow and unorganised. We had breakfast on the Club floor once and it was very poorly run. Again no communication about what was available. We had to wait 20 minutes for an omelette order but that time it was too late, we had finished our savoury buffet food. The buffet had run out of plates and we used bowls, this should never happen. The Line breakfast was far superior with a better selection, helpful staff and lots of plates!

We had dinner in the Shang Chinese restaurant, they had no idea what a daiquiri was even though it was on their cocktail menu??? The sirloin steak dish was difficult to eat as each small piece of steak was surrounding a bone. Our chicken dish was delicious but arrived 15 minutes after the steak dish and rice was served with no apology. Again staff seemed unorganised and lacking training.

We visited the pool area twice and each time had to go and ask for towels despite 3 staff members being on duty monitoring the area. There was no chance of getting drinks or snacks when the need for a towel was not recognised.

On our next visit we will stay somewhere else.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

We arrived here 4 days ago for the start of our honeymoon. We got upgraded to the Horizon club and found our enormous room especially decorated for us. The service here has been fantastic - staff are friendly and always remember you.

Our room is spacious and clean with all the mod cons. Although it would have been nice if we also had wi-fi in the bedrooms. (There is a wired connection in the bedroom, wireless is only available in the common areas).

The breakfast is great with plenty to choose from. There are also a couple of good restaurants within the hotel...although a bit pricey if I'm honest. If you order room service, you'll be surprised at the level of service - outstanding!

The hotel has a top class fitness centre, spa and pool facilities - plenty to keep yourself amused all day.

Great location - about a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants on Orchard Road. Although surprisingly, the hotel is set back from the hustle and bustle.

There was a time twenty years ago that staying in the garden wing here was the top hotel experience in Singapore. Today, the hotel is mildly run down and feels very dated with its almost touristy like Chinese decor. Inconvenient as it is long way from Subway and in ned of a complete overhaul. Air condition at 18 centigrade will give you a cold, a sit did with me. Avoid.

We stayed here as a stopover for 4 nights with a baby, hence spent most of our time in the hotel.

Overall the hotel was great - service , room and facilities. However the room service food was average for 5 star hotel.

We liked:

Room : We stayed in the Garden Wing with a room overlooking the pool - room was clean and comfortable and it was really nice to have a balcony A/C worked well.

Pool : Loved the pool area - nice size, plenty of beds yet didnt feel on top of each other, and pool was a nice temperature.

Gym: Decent size and a good mix of cardio and weights area. Also had a massage which was amazing - but once tax added $200 Singapore is just too much for a 90 minute massage.

Internet: FREE!!! Makes a change for a hotel not to charge for a service that should be free!

Service: Check in and out was fast and efficient, we forgot to order a cot and yet this was delivered about 5 mins after we checked into our room. Room service was as promised in terms of delivery times

Location: Perfect for Orchard Road

We disliked:

Food : overpriced for what it was - quality was disappointing

Beverages : Costs! A glass of wine was $25 and a bottle of evian $11

Stayed for 5 nights Horizon Club room and thouroughly enjoyed the experience. Check-in was very speedy on Horizon floor, however we were glad to be in our room after what seemed like 25 Welcome to the Shangri-la greetings from well mannered staff. Breakfast was amazing. Beautiful Buffet downstairs,in The Line, so much choice. We did eat breakfast upstairs the first morning, lovely, but preferred the relaxed mood of The Line. We experienced friendly service from the staff in the Horizon Club where we enjoyed our nightly cocktails- yum- loved the Singapore Sling-. One of the staff (Edwin if my memory serves me correctly) was particulary helpful in recommending a great hawkers place to eat, instead of Newton Circus- where we had intended to go but was closed for cleaning. The place we went to was full of locals and was terrific great food, affordable and very welcoming.Great suggestion.

Housekeeping was faultless. We came back to our room, while housekeeping was there. Very apologetic (no need to be) asked if we were satisfied with how the room looked and how she had cleaned it. The room was fantastic and so was her service.

The pool is another wonderful spot at this hotel in the surrounds of beautiful gardens. Paradise so close to Orchard Road. What can I say , as I had booked this hotel as part of a birthday suprise holiday for my husband, everything came together nicely for a lovely memorable holiday. Thank you. We would love to stay at this hotel again

From the moment you arrive and are greeted and led to check in, this hotel surpassed all of our expectations and to put it simply, it was one of the finest places I have ever stayed in.

We were upgraded as we were a honeymoon couple and from that moment on, everything went so well.

Hotel is in a great location close to the main shopping area of Orchard road.

Try the all you eat buffet downstairs - simply Amazing!!

Only negative is prices are a little on the high side.

Stayed for the weekend of the Grand Prix in a Horizon Club room. The room was excellent, very good facilities, spacious and quiet. The hotel is well located just off Orchard Road. We only ate at one of the restaurants, Blu, which was superb. Expensive but not excessive for a restaurant of this kind in Singapore and well worth the price for such an excellent meal. The staff were helpful and friendly and the club areas were very good.

On a more negative note, being a frequent user of Shangri La hotels I generally found the quality of the service to be below expectations. Our Horizon Club check in took 45 mins, apparently the room wasn't ready but this was 3.30pm. On the first night drinks in the Club lounge tooks nearly 30 minutes and several reminders, however this did not seem to happen on other evenings. Breakfast was the real disaster area, coffee/tea did not arrive, the buffet was not topped up, orders took forever, cutlery was not replaced, orders were wrong and it seemed that everything had to be requested at least twice, often more, before it finally appeared. There was a general impression that the hotel was running less than smoothly such that we felt the need to constantly check such essentials as taxi bookings (one was forgotten) something I would never normally do in a Shangri La.

Nevertheless, I would still recomment the hotel, even a Shangri La working slightly below par is an excellent hotel and if you go treat yourself to an evening at Blu.

I stayed here for a week in a Horizon Club level room in the main tower. Asked to be moved from the first room given because housekeeping had done a shabby job. Dust abounded and it looked like someone walked in the bathtub with muddy shoes. To the hotel's credit, they moved me promptly and with zero hassle. They also bumped my room category level up one notch.

The problem areas of the hotel were housekeeping and restaurant/Horizon Club staff. Perhaps staffing levels in both were insufficient. Housekeeping staff always appeared in a big rush and they often missed things - For example, I had to wonder if they bothered cleaning the bathroom floor and tub one day because of assorted debris. Another day they failed to empty the dirty towels from the linen basket. One day I asked the front desk manager to provide an extra pad for the bed because I found their mattress too hard. She called housekeeping in front of me; however they failed to show up in my room and I never received an explanation. The next day, I renewed my request at the front desk and this time a manager made certain that it was done.

I also had some concerns about service in the restaurant and at lounge for both breakfast and cocktails. It regularly took a minimum of 10 and sometimes as long as 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee. Not only would I be back in my chair after a trip to the buffet table, but I'd be halfway through with my plate before my beverage would arrive. A drink request in the lounge usually required a similar amount of time for delivery. I can live with waiting a few extra minutes for a cocktail but not so much for morning coffee.

The front desk staff and the doormen are the shining jewels of the hotel. Unfortunately the food and beverage manager, and the housekeeping manager, require immediate assistance.

Also on the plus side, the rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms quite nice. The rooms could stand some renewal however. For example, the peach carpet. I highly recommend the chinese restaurant on the lobby level. I noticed it was very popular with the locals but not many hotel guests made use of it. That's one hotel restaurant that should not be avoided! It was good value and the food quality was extremely high. The hotel location is also excellent - close to everything but far enough away to provide peace and quiet.

Hosted a business meeting here. Great rooms and great service. Rooms were great. A little off the Orchard Road, which is good for wanting to be away from the traffic. Short walk to Orchard road. Excellent fitness facility and great pool with bar. The buffet was unbelievable...well worth the cost if you are hungry and like to eat different cuisines. Indian, japanese, chinese, and malaysian all available.

For sight-seeing, took the city sightseeing hop on-off bus, which was a short walk to the pick-up stop from the hotel.

We normally stay in upmarket 5 star hotels in cities throughout Asia, and as we flew Business Class on Singapore Air, we were given this hotel for two nights for free. In Kuala Lumpur, we usually only stay at either the Shangri La or its sister hotel, the Trader's and are always satisfied with the service. This time, I barely slept a wink on the 13 hour flight from London, so just wanted a place to rest my head. I was told that we were upgraded from what our voucher had said (A Deluxe in the Tower Wing) to a Garden Wing Room.

I foolishly beleieved them because I had status miles with a number of their airline partners.

When we got to the room I was apalled. It smelt musty, there was paint chipping from the furniture, it had an old style TV and the room looked as if it hadnt been renovated in close to a decade. This was certainly not the standard I expected from the Shangri La.

I decided to just rest and when I woke refreshed I could deal with the matter in a calm and rational manner, but despite my insistence that this was not a room that the Shangri La should be touting as an upgrade, the front office and reservations staff continued to insist that it was. At one point I even called the reservations from my mobile to ask the rack rate for the different rooms and was told that the rack rate for the room of my voucher was more than that of my upgrade....HOW CAN IT BE AN UPGRADE IF THE VALUE OF THE ROOM IS LESS THAN THAT OF MY VOUCHER? Where Im from....this is a DOWNGRADE... It was only on my FOURTH attempt (which I shouldnt have had to make) and strong emphatic insistence that I see the room for which my voucher was did staff confirm with me that I was actually downgraded. What a disappointment. Moreover, I was never oferred an apology, or a 'GENUINE' upgrade.

Sure the Garden Wing has bigger rooms with a balcony, but that doesnt do me too much good with a 16 month old baby....Id rather have a cleaner, newer, less tatty room with proper functioning lights, a TV and a nicer bathroom.

The food and other amenities were great, but please dont fall for this Upgrade routine if you ever do decide to stay here....after staying with this chain for over 100 nights, Ive lost patience and confidence with them....they simply dont value repeat customers it seems....

Oh well....many many many more good hotels in Singapore fortunatley...

Great service. I had dinner at the Shang palace. Food was wonderful, and when I mentioned that it was my birthday, they throw in birthday cake and their special dessert for free. Very nice touch.

Breakfast selection was good. Loved the fresh pastries and fresh fruits and juices.

Room was spacious. It comes with free broad band. Swimming pool size was decent. Walking distance to Orchard Rd.

I stayed 3 nights at the Shangri la to break up a long haul trip which was our honeymoon. As the hotel knew we were on honeymoon I thought there might be a small gesture eg. flowers, fruit basket or something but there wasn't (pretty much everywhere else we went did something). Overall the hotel is nice but I did expect something more from a hotel such as the shangri la. The rooms were good enough but a bit dated. Service at breakfast was poor. Each day I had to ask several times for the tea and coffee (and then they bought the wrong one) even though its the first question they ask when they seat you. The hotels not bad but I think I'd try somewhere else if in Singapore again.

We ate once at the downstairs cafe which was very expensive.

We get to Singapore fairly regularly, and always stay at another, older hotel. However, the temptation of two nights paid for by Singapore Airlines made the Shangri La quite tempting. We were so pleased with our visit, that we would consider staying here again.

Right from our early morning arrival at the hotel, the service was fantastic. I would have to say that the front desk clerk was one of the best I have ever encountered. Even though someone else was picking up the tab for our room, the front desk was totally focused on our needs and preferences, even well before check in time. I was so grateful for his kindness.

I have never been a big fan of the Tower Wing at this hotel, and the rooms there are quite small, so if you have a lot of luggage, beware. However, the rooms are totally efficient and pleasant. and well-decorated with great linens The bathrooms have new mosaic tile and nice amenities. There is also free internet, and some spectacular views of the city. We were really quite pleased. The room attendant was first-rate, and always made sure the room was promptly serviced. She took a real interest in our comfort, and indeed in the appearance of the whole floor. A slight criticism I would have is that the hallway carpet and elevator carpet going up to the room looked like it could use a bit of a clean, if not replacement. Not horrible, but a bit tired. No significant complaints other than room size.

The pool at the Shang is great. A beautiful tropical atmosphere, and the hotel supplies plenty of reading material, which I thought was a nice touch. Lots of young families at the pool, but there was room for everyone, and anyone wanting to chill out had no problems.

The Line, the Shang's main restaurant was GREAT. I was very pleased with the quality and variiety of the food. I was particularly impressed by how well kept the food was. For instance, instead of the warm juice you can encounter on some buffets, the Shang has a great refrigeration system. Everything that was supposed to be cold actually was....no room termperature stuff allowed. A really pleasant environment in which to enjoy your meal, as you look out over the Shang's verdant grounds. The hotel's physical site must be one of the most pleasant of any Singapore hotel.

The gym at the Shang is very large for a hotel gym.. Lots of equipement of all varieties.. At least six elliptical machines alone, two rowers along with a lot of equipment I have never seen in my local gym.. Everything in good working order. Nice shower and sauna area.

The only other complaint that I would have about the Shang is their laundry pricing. It was the most expensive I have encountered in Asia, although many of the hotels I stay in are more expensive than the Shang. Usually in Asia, the laundry is fairly affordable compared to other locales, even at top notch hotels. The Shang really took that to new heights, and I hope they will reconsider this policy. I know they have some room rates that include laundry, so this made the cost especially surprising.

Anyway, I would still have to say that the Garden Wing looks nicest to me, but the Tower is quite fine in almost every respect, and any deficiencies were overcome by the great service from all the staff at this fine hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights at the start of our trip of a life time to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, we were given a free upgrade to the garden wing which over looked the swimming pool, this hotel is amazing, the people are so kind and frendly nothing is to much trouble, everything is on a grand scale, from the moment you step out of your taxi to the moment you leave this place will stay with us for a long time, it is located 5 minutes walk from Orchard road, which is the main shopping and eating area of Singapore, the swimming pool which is about 5 degrees below the outside temperature is open till 10pm and we went for a swim at 9:30pm under the stars amazing. if you get the chance to go to Singapore stay at this hotel you will not be disappointed, we will definately be going back to this hotel when we next go to this side of the world.

I booked a room overlooking the pool in the Garden Wing. I chose to book the very convenient package that includes airport transfers, breakfast, unlimited internet access etc.

I was met at Immigration by a lovely young lady who escorted me to a waiting limousine that took me to the Shangri La, where I was greeted by name on the steps of the hotel and escorted to my room where I was checked in. They upgraded me to a Garden Wing suite which was absolutely gorgeous.

I can find very little fault with this hotel. The suite and amenities were wonderful, and I can't compliment the staff enough. Every single person was courteous and efficient and forever cheerful. It was just a pleasure.

The spa treatments, although pricey, are well worth it. The food in the restaurants is good, although the main restaurant, The Line, can be a little hectic in the mornings. I was particularly please to see a gluten-free option on the breakfast menu, which is very unusual.

I had originally booked to stay at Raffles, and ended up cancelling my booking because I was very disappointed in the service provided prior to my visit. It turned out to be a very good move, because I find it hard to believe that Raffles could have provided me with a better stay.

Shangri La's been my fav since young - for htier fantastic food and restaurant. When there was a local promo for room rates, I immediately booked 2 rooms with my friends

we were greeted with prompt service at lobby - check-in was swift and we were ushered to our rooms by the staff who checked us in.

Rooms are kinda small - furnishings were not very new but well-maintained. Mini bar/fridge is well stocked with variaties of snacks/drinks - also with insulated ice bucket and thermos flask/kettle that boils water as well as keeps the water warm. Good internet speed

Bathroom is huse with separate bath and shower. Toiletries were lavender oil-infused. Towels were plush/thick.

Bed turn-down service - a 'mat' was laid by side of bed with bedroom slippers. Jasmine was served in traditional Chinese basket / teapot / teacup

Breakfast at The Line - great varieties and good service

shuttle bus to orchard road is available by the hour.

we stayed at the shangri-la 4 nights as the 1st part of our trip to malaysia, we stayed in the tower wing and had a premier room, with horizon club, from the moment we arrived we were treated very well, from the taxi to the horizion club floor , we arrived early as our flight with singapore airlines arrives very early, this was no problem we were asked to have breakfast, then our room was ready, wonderful room , everything was perfect, later we used the horizon club, witch again was very good , and the staff were wonderful , especially the girls on recipetition, they answered all the questions we wanted to know, we ate at the line on sunday for brunch, this gets very busy , excellent buffett but make sure your not full from breakfast, which was very good , you can eat breakfast either at line or horison club, line is manic in the morning, but with more choice, horizon is quieter with lovely views of the city, less busy , less choice but still very very good, .The pool is vey good it gets busy late afternoon but no problem getting a bed , To su up the shangi-la , i am sure there are other good hotels in singapore but i loved it here the whole place was wonderful, lovely staff , i hope i will come back soon

My wife and I stayed at the Shangri LA on our way home from a five week trip to Australia. We had pre -booked but when we arrived we decided to upgrade to the Valley winf (for not a huge amount of money). This allowed us free champers and food and an upgrade to a suite.

The hotel itself was magnificent; the staff friendly and the location superb.

We stayed over Christmas and enjoyed the celebrations on Xmas eve on Orchard road.

All in all a great place to be.
