The house and the lobby don't look as bad from the outside as Evans lodge really is. Don't trust the website. When arriving outside the office hours you probably don't have a pillow, bedsheet or anything even if you have orderd it. The guest are mostly from India, China and a few Europeans. There are shared rooms with no aircon up to single rooms with AC (not shure whether you can really call it working). The single AC rooms are so ridiculous expansive that you can easily find a nice room in hostels or even a very nice Condominium room for nearly the same price. Evans Lodge has no pool or tennis court as it looks like on the website. It is opposite the University sports field. The kitchen is not really existing. It is so dirty that you don't want to step in and of course not store any food there. Even if you have a single room you share the bathroom with at least 20 others. If you like animals... rats and cockroachs everywhere. The courtyard is used for noisy conversations even in the middle of the night. You have to clean your room yourself if you can find the hoover. The internet connection is not working most of the time and the Indian restaurant and an expansive wine bar downstairs are the only places to eat which are close. The facilities are the worst but also the stuff is not friendly at all. The guard is at least greeting you if he is not sleeping or busy denying people the entrance with any kind of non resident. So don't expect to meet your friends there. Let me tell you that you can find so much better accomodation in Singapore. The only advantage is the location opposite NUS and Botanical Garden and you are meeting a lot of international people.

Evans lodge is truly one of the most disgusting "hostels" I have ever stayed in. The common areas are filthy. There was consistently a rat in our kitchen, and there were numerous cockroaches throughout the lodge. The shower areas, despite the fact that they did seem to be regularly cleaned, were disgusting. My entire stay was a very unpleasant one.

Most of the rooms surround a courtyard common area which although quiet during the day, was very noisy at night - annoying when its 4am and you need to sleep!

Evans Lodge is close to NUS university, and thus recommended as a convenient place to stay for those wishing to attend, however my advice would be to AVOID. You can definitely find alternative accommodation and avoid the rats, cockroaches and filth!
