My friend and I stayed here in May and enjoyed the hospitality, kindness and superb Chinese food cooked by the host's wife and family and we'd highly recommend this home stay to anyone...It's clean, has Western toilets, and large rooms...The food was absolutely delicious and we hope to return.

Mr. Wei speaks english fluently, organizes any trip you want. Three included meals!! Fresh fruits in the morning and you should not miss the wonderful table-round-dinner in the evening!

My mum and I had a lovely stay at this clean and friendly guesthouse, run by Mr Wei and his family.

Located a good 15-20 minute walk from West Street (the main hub of the town as far as being a tourist goes!), but this in itself is quite nice, as it means that whilst the town centre is accessible, you can retire to the peace and quiet of the guesthouse after a day out.

the hotel is clean and the rooms - though plain - are very well decorated and seemed relatively newly renovated or at least well-maintained. we were a bit on the cold side at night (we used our sleeping bags under the duvets!), as there is no heating in the house and the rooms have mostly external walls, but then apparently it was the coldest chinese winter on record, so maybe that partly explains it! lovely balcony/terrace running around the 1st floor of the hotel which has fun views over the quiet street and the communal laundry area at the end of the road.

the evening communal meal is a great way to meet other visitors, and makes a nice change from going foraging for food yourself. breakfast is also included and Mr Wei's friendly family will russle up whatever simple dish you fancy.

Mr Wei can arrange (cheaply) anything activities you like... we had a private raft/boat down the river to another smaller town (although getting ourselves back from there proved a bit of a challenge) and i know other people booked all manner of trips and tours through him. he does not use travel agencies, just friends and contacts, so things work out cheaper and more reliable.

one tip about arrival in yangshuo in general... be careful if taking the nightbus from shenzhen... it arrives literally HOURS earlier than it is timetabled to do, meaning that you arrive in yangshuo (which, incidentally, has little or no signal for foreign mobiles) when it is still dark, and your only companions at the bus stop will be rodent rats and human rats (the local taxi drivers, who will try anything to make you believe that they are Mr Wei/can take you to his hotel). for god's sake, try to arrive at a sociable hour, and ring the guesthouse for the free pick-up! (it's also what Mr Wei tells you to do on the guesthouse's website).

The family there was absolutely amazing. The offer all kinds of classes and go out of there way to make sure you have everything you need. The place is a little tricky to find, but that just means it out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Looking out our bedroom window was just mountains and trees. Down below were the locals washing there clothes in the outdoor washing basin. The Yangshuo Culture house gives you a better perspective on Chinese life.
The food there is spectacular. We

An absolutely incredible experience! I would recommend to anybody looking for a quiet getaway. Mr Wei, the caretaker, is incredibly hospitable and seems to be connected to everybody you'd need to know to make a tour reservation.

Great interaction with people from all over the world. Great home cooked food for dinner. Owner Mr. Wei can arrange all trips and tickets for you in Yangshuo, and usually 20 RMB cheaper than the travel companies....all in all a great deal.

only issue is, place is a bit away from the West Street, the happening hub of Yangshuo

The Culture House is definitely worth it to get your bearings. Wei is so helpful and gave us a crash course in Mandarin for free. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. A good quiet night's sleep and the best food!!!

This was an excellent place to start off our two week China vacation because of the owner, Wei's knowledge of the area and his fluent English. The Culture house is located in a residential section of Yangshuo, about a 10 minute walk from popular West Street. The rooms were very basic but the warmth of Wei and his family and the friendliness of the other travelers from all over the world made up for any shortcomings. Dinners are family style at 6:30 every evening and not to be missed. We met people of all ages and lifestyles.

The only downside was the early morning start of construction right outside of our bedroom for road repairs. I didn't notice it nearly as much in our kids room next door so make sure you ask about that if you book here within the next month or so.

Cost per person is less then $12 USD and that includes a Continental breakfast, lunch if you give them advance notice and a great family dinner. We had airport pick-up and then a ride back (about 1 1/2 hours) from Guilin for 200rmb for each trip.

The lack of English in China cannot be overstated enough, especially in the smaller cities and towns and having someone helpful and fluent in both English and Chinese is a huge bonus.

I think this was our favorite place in China.

My husband and I were in China for a few weeks to hit a bunch of the major highlights and had planned on spending about a week in Yangshuo to slow down, relax, and rock climb. Yangshuo Culture House was the perfect place.

The rooms were clean, had air-con, included the price of 3 square meals (dinner was so yummy), and most of all, we had the pleasure of meeting Wei and his family. Wei knew the answer to every question we had about the area and he was so helpful with everything. One day I came back early after I was unsuccessful in renting a scooter. Wei happened to be around and I gave him my sob story. With one call, Wei had found a scooter for me at about 60% of the price that people in town were quoting me. After weeks of haggling for just about everything, I could have just cried.

Also, Yangshuo Culture House is a 5-10 minute walk from where all of the tourist shops are. Perfect if you're after some peace and quiet.

Yangshuo Culture House was everything I like in a hotel or hostel--spotlessly clean, comfortable, safe--and so much more. Wei and his family were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The meals, which were included in the room price, were bountiful and delicious. As enjoyable as eating them, though, was helping Wei's wife and sisters-in-law prepare them while a neighbour visited, bouncing her baby on her knee. It's a cliché, I know, but I really did feel part of the family..

Myself and three other people stayed at the Yangshuo Culture House for 3 nights in June 2007. I have travelled a lot in China, and this guest house was one of the most positive experiences I've had here. The building itself houses Wei (the boss), his wife, and a couple of other family members. The rest of the house's rooms are let out to travellers. It is located a few kilometres north of the main part of town, down a small alleyway and backing onto one of the area's many karst mountains.

The rooms are incredibly clean and neat. The rooms at the back of the house look directly onto the mountain. The cost of the room includes three meals a day, all freshly and expertly cooked by Wei's wife and mother. This is some of the best food in China, and they continue to cook until every single person at the table looks suitably stuffed.

Wei used to work for the local tourist bureau, so he has a lot of connections with local tour operators. With one phone call, he can arrange discount tickets and transport to just about anywhere. He can also help with maps, bike hire, and day trip ideas.

Yangshuo itself is an incredible place to visit. You can spend days climbing mountains, cycling through rice paddies, floating down rivers on bamboo rafts, and eating the region's specialties. You can add to the experience by signing up for some of the courses that the House offers, though we didn't get the chance to partake on our trip.
