Check in went smoothly, and we were upgraded to a room on the "Horizon Club" floor(s): includes breakfast daily, happy hour and free use of the computers on the Horizon Club floor. Nicely appointed rooms (very new) which included fridge, kettle complimentary water daily (unlimited), and a large bathroom which included separate bathtub and glass shower stall with "rain" shower head and hand held. Bathroom included all amenities including: razors, sewing kit, emery boards, cotton pads, nail clipper, l'occitane bath products, toothpaste, etc... Complimentary breakfast could be eaten on the Horizons Club floor (19) which was nice & quiet although limited breakfast selection(cereal, choice of eggs, dimsum, congee, fruit etc) or in the Y Cafe on the main floor which had a huge choice (freshly squeezed veg juices), your choice of freshly cooked soup noodles with self chosen toppings and standard Western fair. Happy hour began at 5pm and included complimentary foods(hot and cold) & liquor (beers, wine, spirits) and non-alcoholic drinks. English spoken in this hotel was good to very good and the staff were excellent, especially Sean at the front desk, and one of the woman in the Horizons Club. Although China as a whole is definitely a "smoking" country, the non-smoking floor was equipped with an air filter and I never smelled any smoke. TV had many channels, and we arranged a private car to take us to the Terracotta soldiers, and the sites we wanted to see. Although the locals consider this a very expensive hotel... it was well worth the price (especially for our 3 night stay). Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. 2 shopping malls close by, but prices (for North Americans) were very pricey. Concierge was quite helpful in suggesting restaurants.
Excellent hotel. We stayed in this hotel as part of a two week trip to China and this hotel was by far the best hotel of our trip in my opinion. Large comfortable rooms with a comfortable bed and a great bathroom. The food in the hotel cafe was also excellent (breakfast each morning was excellent). The hotel also have a lovely pool (however, this could have done with being a degree or two warmer) and good changing facilities with cap, flip-flops etc provided. This hotel was more expensive than other hotels in Xian but was well worth it.
Slightly disappointed at check-in as there were no king-size non-smoking rooms available but the twin rooms have two queen size beds so not such a big deal! Service in the restaurants and lobby areas was excellent. The food was good. We booked a car and driver through the hotel for a visit to the terracotta warriors which although expensive was worth it. Both were polite and didn’t rush us at any time during the trip. I would recommend staying here.
very busy when we checked in& they could not locate our resvn(3 rms) they noted we had a voucher & quickly began looking into the matter whilst apologising for inconvenience. Suggested we have lunch during this time. Gave us the rms which were VERY comfortable, spotless clean, great bathrm-nothing fancy but just exactly what U need from a good room. Good lighting, easy to find everything . Sensible, GOOD gym and indoor pool. Good breakfast, restaurant food. NEGATIVE point is that so many people are smoking - but this is a country that promotes smoking - so most htls are like . So ask for NO smking floor when U book. Hat off to the VERY professional Japanese Guest Relations Manager.
This hotel was superb. We had been booked into a Horizon Room and because of this when we arrived (at 9.45am) we were brought up to the Horizon Room to get checked in. Flawless!!! Also because we had booked this room we had our breakfast there etc every morning. It’s well worth the upgrade.
Our room was lovely however, having stayed in other Shangri-la hotels in the world; I felt that more attention was paid to the public spaces in the hotel rather than the rooms.
I have to say that Xian was the only city I visited in China that I felt a little unsafe. Nothing happened that made me feel like this, for some reason I just didn’t feel comfortable in it.
Our main reason for visiting Xian was the Terracotta Warriors. We also went to the Wild Goose Pagoda which was one of the most disappointing places we visited on our trip. It’s not all it’s meant to be.
Go to Xian for the Terracotta Warriors but don’t expect much else. This hotel though, is well worth the money!!
We booked this hotel based on the tripadvisor reviews (3 at the time). We booked for 3 nights, but were so impressed with the hotel that we stayed an extra two nights and had no difficulty filling our days.
The hotel is only about 6 months old. It is absolutely beautiful. Our room was spacious, squeaky clean, quiet and had every amenity we wanted. The restaurant was very good; the breakfast buffet expensive, but extensive and top quality. We ate other lunches and dinners there as well and were never disappointed.
The staff were exceptionally attentive and eager to please - right up to the manager and assistant manager who spoke to us on our departure and could often be seen in the lobby greeting guests. Many of the staff had a very high level of English understanding and were very helpful in organizing travel.
My only complaint - and it hardly matters - is that the picture on the interenet showing a large lake adjacent to the hotel is deceptive - there is a very small pond out back in the gardens.
All in all, I can't say enough about this wonderful hotel.
My favorite city in China, we did Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai and a lovely city near the Rounded Mountains, but Xian won my heart. So much to do, and the hotel was wonderful, again we loved the people, and of course the Terra Cotta warriors are a must see.
This must be a new hotel because everything is working condition and spotless! If you are not a member of the Shangri-La hotel points card join when you check in. You will get 1/2 off the breakfast buffet prices and a two people stay in the room for the price of a single.
I was immediately impressed by how spotless this hotel was! You can probably eat off the floors of this place...everything is shiny and spotless. The staff at this hotel are pleasant and friendly, although they have varying degrees of proficiency in English. My one small complaint was that the concierge often did not understand my questions or requests so trying to make reservations at restaurants was challenging. They did, however, try their best to accomodate!
We spent three nights at the Shangri La (not to be confused with the Shanri La Golden Flower) and were extremely pleased. The hotel is located outside of the old city walls, but it's only a 10 minute taxi ride away, so distance was no problem and we did not have any issues with traffic either. It was interesting to be in that part of town because it was so different - it's a business/technology corridor rather than solely a touristy area.
The hotel is brand new. I think it has only been opened a few months. It caters to business travelers, but it's just as good for travellers. The rooms are huge as is the bed (which is super comfortable) and the bathroom. The decor is very nice and tasteful with everything in mind for comfort and convenience. The bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Wireless is available and is free.
The breakfast buffet is fabulous - all sorts of food from Western to Chinese and Japanese. The coffee is not great, but it's China -tea is much better.
We had massages in the spa and they were very good. The spa itself is beautifully decorated and the rooms are huge.
The gym is also huge with loads of equipment. They even have class rooms, but I don't know whether they have classes. There is a pool for swimming laps, but be sure to bring your swim cap, otherwise, one will need to be purchased.
The service was excellent, courteous and helpful. Overall, the staff's English is pretty good and if one cannot help, then there will soon be another person along quickly to help out.
This was the second stop, after Biejing, on our tour of China. We were here for two nights and wished we had stayed longer. The Shangri La is a new hotel, not to be confused with Shangri la's other property the Golden Flower.
This hotel is immaculate, the rooms are large with floor to ceiling windows and views over Xi'an. It is situated in the south of the city and we found everything easily accessible.
The lobby and front desk have high ceilings and are very imposing, I'm just glad I don't have the job of cleaning the massive chandelier in the lobby lounge.
Our room was technologically up to the minute with WiFi, flat panel TV etc. The night lights under the bedside tables and in the bathroom mean no more banged toes on those nighttime errands and no more woken partners always good for marital harmony! The bathroom had a separate shower across a corner of the bathroom making it large enough to without banging my elbows!
The service here was excellent always friendly and attentive, particularly in the lobby bar. We had no problem communicating our needs in English and the young staff were very engaging and enthusiastic.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel but it was very good. The buffet selection covers western and oriental most comprehensively.
A great new hotel in a wonderful city we will return to both.
This is newly opened hotel. The deluxe city room I stayed was very nice and comfortable. The complete facilities, King-size bed, Satellite TV, spacious bath room, helpful staff and delicious breakfast left me very deep impression. If I visit Xian in future, I will definitely stay here again.
