Stayed here from 10th Oct to 15th Oct at 900RMB a night.
5 star hotel, 5 star treatment.
Great bed, nice large room, LCD TV, clean and spacious bathroom with shower and tub area.
Good daily housekeeping service....if your DO NOT DISTURB sign is on, they come back every 2 hours to check if they can clean up your room, how persistent!
Good breakfast....they have a spa, never tried it.
Used the GYM, good facilities, pool a little small, and for ladies, swimming cap required....I did not really swim, more like relaxing on the deck chairs by the pool.
Good service, you are greeted at the hotel door everytime.
Limo from hotel to airport at 200RMB.
Location wise, pretty near to SM mall....and near to a street of eateries...ATM below the hotel....HSBC bank next to hotel, Bank of China and Standard Chartered bank opp. the hotel.
On a two week business trip to China, this was the best hotel of the trip. Great location. Friendly staff. Large comfortable and clean room. Good Breakfast. Too bad that my stay at this hotel was only two nights because this city wourd be very interesting to explore. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Xiamen.
This must be the most friedly hotel I stayed in China during my May trip, 24 nights and 11 hotels. Not the occasional friendly hotel staff but everyone I meet. In fact I stayed at the hotel twice, in between, I left my larger lugguge with the hotel to exploring the Fujian Tulous in the countryside for a few days . On returning, I was so amazed that one of the receptionist and later one of the waitresses asked me how was my Tulou trip !
The hotel is a shinny high rise a fair distance from downtown and the Gulangyu ferry terminal, a good 20-30 min by taxi, but taxis are reasonably cheap. Rooms are very comfortable, clean as one would expect of Sheratons, and of decent size, and for such hotel class, internet came free ! My package also included buffet breakfast with a huge range of oriental and occidental choices. I also tried the dinner buffet once, again, most satisfying ! I did not have time nor energy to exprore the vecinity of the hotel to report what the area had to offer
Wow. That is the one word I would pick to summarize this place. Or perhaps "perfection". I travel a lot, all over the world, and stay at anyplace from basic Courtyard/Hampton/Holiday Inn to the Peninsula in Hong Kong. For the money, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at, anywhere. For about US$140, I got a great room, breakfast, internet, and world class service. Staff spoke great English, and would bend over backwards to help. While Xiamen itself is a nice city but not overly amazing, this hotel really is.
Stayed here for two nights as part of a business trip - this hotel was selected by my colleagues in Xiamen.
Everything was excellent - check-in, reception, staff, room, bar, restaurant. I really liked the room which had glass walls between the bed part and the bathroom.
The Sheraton Xiamen is perhaps the finest hotel I have ever stayed in. The experience starts with an absolutely opulent lobby, and it just gets better. The front office staff are amazing, and are able to cater to Americans and other Non-Chinese speakers with ease. Both hotel restaurants offer wonderful food, and the 2nd floor lounge is great for unwinding after a long day of travel. The 4th floor pool and gymnasium are incredible, and the spa is even better.
The standard room is anything but standard. You can expect a spacious, uncrowded room, with plenty of closet space for an extended trip. The hotel laundry service is also very good, offering same day service for both dry cleaning and wash and fold. My room featured a flat panel LCD TV, in room high-speed ethernet, a very comfortable king size bed, and a spacious work desk.
The bathrooms are also large, lavishly styled, featuring toilets with a bidee and seat warmer, and large shower areas and bathtubs. The bathroom also has windows into the room, which was an unexpected treat.
Very friendly staff, spacious and clean. Delightful breakfast. Exceeded my expectations. The local business I was visiting booked the hotel for me -- i was a little hesitant since it was a Sheraton -- but they certainly knew what they were doing. Highly recommended. Agree with all the great reviews.
Stayed here for 2 nights and it was probaby the best hotel I stayed at in China and a good rate. I must admit I thought the gold towers were a bit gaudy but the rooms (beds!) were fabulous with nice views. I ordered room service and it came quickly, was great and hot. Great pool/workout area. Nice location - I took a walk to a local park and shopping mall and internet access in room was blazingly fast. Great buffet breakfast included. The staff was fabulous as well - the friendliest in China! Great job, would stay here again in a minute.
Xiamen's Sheraton is a gleaming gold tower lost in the mixed residential and business district at the center of the island. But don't let the outlandish exterior fool you into thinking the hotel is a Nouveau Riche kitch-fest, because this is a surprisingly good hotel with lots of the right stuff.
Rooms: Spacious, modern, and bright, they have open bathrooms and huge windows that let in lots of light. The beds are delightfully comfortable, and the bathroom is stocked generously with great towels. Upgrade to a junior suite if you like extra space. These great rooms come with two bathrooms (one full, one half), and some of them even have bathrooms with large windows overlooking the city. It's exhilarating showering/bathing with a view at your side. I think a bathroom says a lot about a property, and the Sheraton excels.
Service: Staff are friendly and genuinely happy to see guests, from the doormen to the General Manager. Most staff went out of their way to answer questions and to help us get our bearings. One weakness is their English skills. Most staff have below average 5 star English skills, and this can make communications difficult. Fortunately, there are always one or two around with great English who, when they see a frustrated face, will jump in to help out.
Executive Lounge: I highly recommend the inexpensive upgrade to the executive level. Great breakfast included (order the waffles!), free use of computers and internet, and great snacks and drinks nearly all day long. The staff in the lounge really go out of their way to help in every way.
Restaurants: The all day dining/buffet restaurant on the second floor, Waves, is a tasty addition to the Xiamen scene. While the ala carte menu is limited, the dishes (especially Grill) are well executed, with my travel companion saying the grilled chicken was the best she'd had in China. The buffets are great. Check out the dessert section for some really nice treats.
Pool/Spa: The pool is semi outdoor, and as a typhoon was blowing through at the time of our visit, it was a bit chilly to use. The gym is small but has the necessary equipment and a nice staff of trainers, and the locker facilities are complete with showers, sauna, steam, and hot tubs. Nothing special, but the staff were very friendly. The Spa manager is a friendly Scottish woman named Reina. Talk to her if you get a chance, she's a fun person to know in Xiamen.
Neighborhood: There is a Taoist temple a block away from the hotel, and every morning a very busy market materializes there. Beside the temple is a park with a lake, making for some great evening walks. A large shopping mall and Wal-Mart are 2 blocks away. As for touristy things, like the lovely Gulanyu Island or the Zhong Shan Road walking/shopping street, expect a good 20 minute taxi ride. I recommend visiting each of those places, as well as paying a visit to Xiamen University and the temple next to it. The concierge will be happy to write down directions.
Complaints: Staff member's English skills are lacking, distance from major tourist sites, outdoor pool.
Spent three nights and was amazed. I travel a lot and this Sheraton is well above any other Sheraton I've stayed in...superior food, service, and rooms. Food in the Executive Lounge was outstanding. You can order Eggs Benedict made to order from the breakfast menu. Evening hors d'oeuvres were sophisticated and yummy. About eight computers for use by lounge members. Staff friendly, informal, and helpful. The Prince restaurant in the hotel served better food, especially the fish, than any other top restaurant we ate at in the city. The location, however, is not interesting. Right in the middle of the city and far from the water. We stayed mostly in the hotel.
I took my family to Xiamen during the "golden week" of the Chinese Labor Day holiday from May 2 to 5. I knew it would be crowded everywhere in China during the week, but I was hoping that Xiamen being a smaller city nobody would really want to go there. I was wrong!
Xiamen in general is a terrible city: over populated with extremely polluted air and water (both fresh and sea); taxis are unbelievably rundown (you feel like you are sitting right behind an exhaust pipe) and scarce; streets are jammed and trees are chopped down because of endless constructions; people are indifferent and rude like everywhere else in China. Prices of most merchandise and services seem to be inflated and higher than other Chinese cities. If I have to point out one good thing about this city, it must be a PARADISE FOR SMOKERS. People can be seen walking with cigarattes between their fingers everywhere and it seems "non smoking section" is not even in their dictionary. Unfortunately, I don't smoke. If anybody is considering moving to or visiting Xiamen for fun, my advice is: don't.
The terrible surroundings make the Sheraton Xiamen Hotel an extremely shining pearl in that city. Before the trip, we read other people's comments about the hotel, but we were still stunned by the beauty of the guest room when we walked in. The room was clean and spacious with a nice wall decor in a calming color scheme. The high speed internet access was totally free. The bathroom has seperated tub and shower with glass windows looking at the room. The beds are nice and comfy. The restaurants are nice if you don't mind sitting among smokers. We had dinner at the Chinese "Prince" restaurant. We first had to change our order several times because many ingredients were not available. Then, for some reason, it took them a very long time to serve the food during a not so busy time period. However, when the fabulous food finally came all problems seemed to be going away. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the food and environment. The breakfast could be better for a hotel like this but was acceptable. The staff was friendly but could be more knowledgeable about the hotel. Sometimes you find them smile and nod and even bow to you but can't answer your question about what difference was between the restaurants on the 4th and the 3rd floor. The swimming pool is a little bit small when the hotel was 99% occupied but I guess it doesn't happen very often.
After all, this nice hotel made a big difference for our trip. Thanks, Starwood Hotels. I definitely would recommend this hotel to those people who don't have a choice when they must stay overnight at Xiamen.
This is probably the newest Western-run hotel in Xiamen. The service is great with the staff well-trained and genuinely caring.
The rooms are large with modern bathrooms and fittings but the plumbing can be a bit funny at times. Hopefully these early things can be fixed. The turn-down service is great.
Free shoe shine. The Chinese Rest is great-try the roast goose and XiaoLung Bau ("little dragon" pork dumplings with soup inside-one of the best in the world to date). Great YumCha all day long there! Beaut ambience and service.
The breakfast is nice with western and Asian styles-great pastries and minor variations from day to day which is great when you stay for more than three days. The hotel location is a bit far from the main part of town especially the ZhongSan Road area and harbour-front where the ferry to Gulanyu Island is sited. Gulanyu Island is the best thing going for Xiamen-no cars no bikes, quaint colonial streets and bungalows- a real gem.
The huge SM mall with WalMart is like any faceless shopping mall but fun to explore but don't be duped-it is at least about 10-15minutes walk not quite "next door". Take your chances with the traffic and zebra crossings (play dodge with the cars!) Taxi there only about US$1 and you don't have to tip!
I stayd at the Sheraton Xiemen in March 07 for 1 night. This is a new hotel. The room I stayed in was very clean, modern and well equiped. I used the buffet restaurent for an eveneing meal, this was excellent with both Chinese & western choices. The room rate 1000 RMB a night including breakfast (which was also excellent). I'd recommend this hotel, its the best I've stayed at in China.
I cannot say enough about this hotel. After one night, this hotel became my new # 1 hotel. The service is top notch, the food was excellent (had a nice yet quiet Xmas dinner buffet), the rooms are the best I ever stayed in.
I am not going to list every adjective I can think of but if you are going to Xiamen, there is no other place to stay. Period!
I stayed here in December 2006 while travelling in China for work. This is a fantastic new hotel. The staff are very friendly and polite. The rooms are large and very nicely decorated. The bathroom is great but make sure you are comfortable with your room mate - one of the bathroom walls is glass (but they do have blinds). I will definitely come back here next trip.
I live in Haicang district of Xiamen teaching English. After 2 1/2 months being away from home (U.S.) I wanted to treat myself to a nice night at a nice hotel. I personally checked out the Holiday Inn/Crowne Plaza (Yes, it goes by both names here) and the Sheraton. Being that the hotel is less than one year old helps. Everything is shiny and new. Best of all is a western bed (Sheraton's Sweet Sleeper) that not every 4-5 star hotel in China has. Great bed and great room. The shower is fantasic.
The pool and facilities and gym are all included in the rate. The only negative is the free breakfast was below standars for a hotel like this. However, the 98 Yuan lunch buffet was fantastic and had a fresh cooked to order pasta and fresh fish bar. The make your own tacos was the first tacos I have found in all of Xiamen.
The area is not the most interesting in Xiamen. However, the largest mall (SM) is only one block away. And all the atractions are no more than a 15-20 Yuan taxi ride away.
I have been staying at the Mandarin hotel in Xiamen for the past 6 years, but the Sheraton opened in August so I thought I would give it a try! I travel a lot for business....more than 100 nights a year. Without question, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in in China, perhaps even Europe. If this hotel were located in the States, it woud get 5 stars easy and would be rated with chains such as the Ritz, Peninsula, Four Seasons.
People here will do ANYTHING to make your stay more comfortable..The club floor is a bargain..free internet, pressing, shoe shine, comfortable bed..awesome shower. I give it my highest rating..this from a very picky person.

New, clean, superb - really really good.
There are many wonderful hotels in Xiamen and this is probably the best.
I recommend it highly
best hotel buffet in South China!!!!!
