We have stayed 9 weeks at the Best Western Xiamen in one of the appartements in the months September and October of 2008. The staff is very friendly and speak good english. They will accompany you to any necessary doctor's or dentist's appointments. They are a valuable link to the Chinese populations, they will translate and help you on your journey. The breakfast buffet is the most varied I have ever eaten at and really delicious. The restaurant that serves the buffets can be quite crowded especially at dinner time. If you get up early enough you can have the swimming pool all to yourself not a luxury if you see the size of the pool itself. Check the opening times of the gym and swimming pool because they have 2 different schedules, high and low season. The hotel is conveniently situated and taxi's are very cheap in Xiamen. In Xiamen I can recommend the Islandic Heimat restaurant that serves very nice european dishes and has the best burgers in town. A lovely evening stroll along the ''Lake'' near the Marco Polo hotel is fantastic before eating in one of the lake side restaurants: korean, italian, californian cuisines.

One negative aspect of the hotel is the size (really too small for our european measurements) and too hard beds.

I enjoyed the city life in Xiamen and would return any time.

I thought this was a nice hotel. The lobby, restaurant buffet, service (no tipping policy!) and English ability of staff were all good. I got an extremely good deal on a "Fair Ladies Room". It was dated but kinda cute, but it did have some mould or something that looked like mould around the door. I am going to Xiamen again soon and will stay there again, but I'm going to pay a little more for a newly renovated room. It is still a very good deal, and includes dinner, breakfast and free airport shuttle.

Sister, brother in law and myself booked into the hotel. the room was set up to be more like a little apartment, very convenient. with 2 bedrooms, a sitting area and a kitchenette. toilet and bathroom shared. there was a tv in each of the rooms, so makes 3 tvs! double beds were comfortable. room very clean. complimentary bottles of water and fruit provided each day. we paid RMB750 per night including breakfast and discount off the massage, which was very good.

breakfast was above par with a great selection, and topped up regularly by attentive staff. coffee was freshly ground.

i now rate my hotels against this one.

slight negative is the location, it is far from downtown and taxi costs rmb25 one way, however, it suited us as we were there for the scenery and Gulangyu, instead of shopping.

OK hotel. Decent bar with band, but a dead area outside as far as alternative bars are concerned.

Best Western Premier is showing its age [I would guess 15 years at least]. The carpeting in the room is old, the furniture is plain and old, this is not a new first class room. Bathroom tiles and counters are from 15 year old ago era. If you look at back edges of carpeting, behind sofa and beds there is lots of built up dust. The room was not terrible, it is adequate, and I suppose in China you can get alot worse... but this was no 4 star hotel room. My local vendor who I had appointments even asked why I stay at Best Western, they put their guest up at Marco Polo, or Sheraton just opened 4 months ago. I cannot vouch for these, just repeating what locals told me.

One plus to the Best Western is that they give you a bunch of meal coupons, apparently the room not only includes a huge breakfast spread, but also dinner with free beer. The dinner is also and expansive buffet.

Stayed at the Best Western in Xiamen as a result of the review on this website (Thanks to the previous poster). Excellent hotel. Stayed in a suite which has the bedroom (King bed) and a separate room which is a living area. Bed was soft, room clean, bathroom large, very quiet and everything as good as you would find in any five star hotel in the US or Australia (probably better).

Hotel will pick you up at the airport. Restaurants and bars good by Chinese standards. Entertainment on one of the floors each night, which if you are staying by yourself for a while keeps you amused.

Staff are very good and helpful in all respects. I had a bad headache one night and needed some aspirin. They sent up a doctor and a hotel staff member to see if I was ok and really fussed over me, which was a nice touch.

No hesitation in recommending this hotel which is in the centre of town. I am heading back to Xiamen next week and have already booked this hotel for my stay.

I really didn't know much about Xiamen before visiting, but I'm so pleased that we chose this lovely hotel for our stay. The location was excellent - not too far from the airport, and also a short taxi ride to the downtown area and the Gulangyu Island ferry. There are also quite a few shops and restaurants around the hotel.

From the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out, the service we received was extremely friendly and professional. When you first enter the hotel you can't help but admire the enormous lobby, with its grand chandeliers. It's nice to see that this excellence in design is matched by top notch service. During my stay, I had a question about using an IP telephone card from the hotel - the Assistant Manager immediately came to my service and took time to help me with the instructions, some of which were in Chinese. This type of personal service is lacking at many hotels nowadays - it's nice to see that this hotel haven't forgotten this though.

The rooms were very clean and comfortable - we were sad to only be able to stay for 2 nights here - would definitely have liked to stay longer and try out the hotel's various facilities.

This hotel had one of the best breakfast spreads that I've come across in Asia - so much variety, including Sushi and various other Japanese dishes! When I said I was a vegetarian, the staff were helpful and took me around the buffet area, showing me which items were suitable for my diet.

Also impressed with the free transport to the airport - a useful extra that we were not expecting! Thanks to everyone at Best Western Premier Central for a truly wonderful stay!
