Cheap & Good. Booked this because it's close to the office & it's very affordable, as compared to some other hotels.

Wonderful room - contemporary design, new furniture, LCD TV ...

Location's not too bad

- near to Shang Ye Jie, a street lined up with many restaurants.

- near to Emerald Square, shopping & plenty of restaurants.

Cons - a little far away from Guan Qian Jie & SIP.

The Hotel One Suzhou is a beautifully designed, modern hotel on the outskirts of Suzhou. The reservation department was wonderful, led by Ms, Brenda Kou, who phoned me several times from China to make sure my reservation was in order. She even offered me a free upgrade and graciously agreed to change our two-night stay to one at the last minute so that we could stay overnight in Tongli.

The hotel lobby is stunning and the lounge/restaurant is trendy and comfortable for a drink or a meal. The service at the breakfast buffet was excellent. The lounge comes complete with free Wii which provided hours of fun for us in the evening.

After arriving later than expected at the hotel and wanting to do as much sightseeing as possible, Ms. Kou came and met with us, quickly put together an itinerary for seeing the I.M Pei museum and the Humble Administrator's Garden, called a taxi for us, and had us on our way within 10 minutes!

Our room was stylish and comfortable with everything needed for both a leisure and/or business stay, including great WiFi, entertainment center, wonderful ergonomic desk chair, great linens, bathroom amenities and more!

Ms. Malvine Berthold, in the management department, made a special effort to greet us and make sure everything was in order with our stay. We spent a bit of our last day chatting with her about our different experiences in China and she was most charming and helpful.

Upon our departure both women, and seemingly the entire hotel staff, put us in a taxi and bid us a warm and personable farewell! A real gem of a hotel, for China, or anywhere in the world!

I've stayed in over 20 hotels throughout China but this one has to be the coolest of all... the people running the w chain should check out how it is done!

Loved the wii in the bar downstairs (our tennis improved throughout the weekend!)... great pool and the spa rooms are really well designed and detailed.

The staff were very friendly and service professional. The only downside is the position... a good 20 mins taxi ride to the shops/bars downtown, but definitely the place to stay in Suzhou... we will be back.

We had the spa / sauna room. This hotel has the most modern room decorations I have ever seen. Beautiful bathroom fixtures, glass walled bathroom, claw foot tub, large LCD TV, safe, robe, even a combination printer / scanner. Very reasonable price for the quality of the place. Great service with uniformly english speaking staff, free wireless and computers to use.

Cons: the cocktails in the bar were horrible, the concierge a bit clueless on where to go, and the location far from the city center. Oh, and it doesn't look so impressive from the outside.

All in all, the hippest hotel I have ever stayed in.

Hotel One is part of the Landis Group based in Taiwan. This Hotel has surprised me right from we when left the Taxi. The bellboy was jumping towards the Taxi greeting us with a very warm "Good evening", which is definitely not the usual in a Hotel within this price range in a smaller Chinese Town (Suzhou has "only" around 700.000 inhabitants). The next surprise was a very nice receptionist who spoke excellent English. Her very friendly French colleague showed us the two "standard" room categories they have to offer: Deluxe and Spa. The major difference is the more business look of the Deluxe Room versus the more cosy atmosphere of the Spa rooms which are all located on the first floor, a mere 15 meters away from the Spa.

We decided to stay in a Spa room for 899RMB/night incl. 2 Breakfast. The room has a great flat TV with a DVD player, a standalone bathtub like in the old days and free internet.

The overall design of rooms, bar and restaurant are extremely stylish, a little London, a little New York, also extremely unusual within this price range in China for me. The staff is well trained and friendly, you can survive without any deeper knowledge of Mandarin.

The Location is not perfect but still okay. You get basically everywhere within a couple of minutes by taxi.

The only downside we saw was the Spa where the English level of staff still could be improved a little if dealing with foreigners with limited Chinese language knowledge. You survive easily though if you speak some Chinese.

For us, living in Shanghai since a couple of years this will definitely be on our shortlist for weekend getaways now. We enjoyed our stay and our room a lot.
