Spent 6 days at the Sunshine on our second trip to Shenzhen.
The staff were fluent in English unlike other hotels in Shenzhen.
Cant speak highly enough about the service we recieved from all staff, room cleaners, restaurant staff, business centre, pool attendants, consierge and reception staff alike.
Great location, indoor pool with gymnasium, ideal for the cooler weather over Dec and Jan.
Good sized rooms and recently refurbished, close to transport.
Booking over internet to hotel direct was easy and emails were quickly replied to . The staff even answered questions regarding transport from HK.
Would recommend and return to the Sunshine Hotel any time.
We stayed at the Sunshine Hotel in December of 2006 for 3 days. It was very well lit up, clean, big, and nothing short of a 5-star! After doing extensive research over the internet for a good quality hotel, we settled on the Sunshine, and were greatly impressed with the hotel.
It is centrally located, room sizes are excellent(ask for non-smoking room), and all the shopping is located at a 5-minute walk. It is also close to the station if you come in from Hong Kong - only a 5-minute ride. The hotel provides a free shuttle from and to the station, so use that. OR, if you take a taxi from Shenzhen station then do not pay more than 35Yuan!!
So go ahead, for a hassle free and safe stay in Shenzhen. Excellent lobby, with a cafe with Philipino girls singing light music every night. Classy stuff... Stay at the sunshine...You'd be only too impressed to return!!!
We crossed the border from HK by train and stayed one night in the Sunshine Hotel. We had trouble finding it as we had no directions. We hoped in a taxi and he didn’t know where it was but eventually found it. If we had known it was just around the corner we would have walked as ripped off by taxi! Also we later discovered there are complimentary shuttle buses by most hotels to the station.
Anyway when we got to the hotel we soon forgot about the taxi. The greeting was excellent and check in was very efficient. The huge lobby is quite impressive, we didn’t know what to expect from this hotel but we were very happy with it.
We got a room at the front of the building over looking the huge intersection. The room was large and spotless clean, if a little dated.
There were renovations going on when we were there on the ground floor but we did not hear a thing.
Maybe it was the time of year but we saw hardly anyone else in the hotel other then staff, who were always extremely polite.
We didn’t eat there but did have a few drinks upstairs in the Cigar Lounge (not sure if women were supposed to be there?) anyway settled into a lovely window seat and although there were very few people there we had a great night in a nice relaxing environment.
Although be warned if you visit over Christmas they have this terrible tape of Christmas carols they play everywhere, no im not being a bahumbug – you should hear this thing!
Oh and if you are longing for western food there is a Pizza Hut in a shopping mall just around the corner, look for the logo.
We wanted to try a holiday soley based on internet info and bookings. Returned yesterday from a couple of weeks in Bangkok and China - loved it and can't wait to set off again. Tripadvisor info a great help and based on this advice, booked our hotels. Bangkok Pathumwan was amazing, after 7 days of that we landed in Guangzhou, the Tianlun Hotel. We stayed 2 days and decided it was a let down after Bangkok. Staff had difficulty with English language. People less friendly both on the street and staff in the hotel - taxi drivers decidedly unfriendly. Got back on to Tripadvisor and liked the look of Shangri-la and Sunshine Hotels in Shenzhen. We took the bullet train down and looked at them. Liked both, booked Sunshine as no problem with short notice booking and took a car down there the next day. No problems with cutting short our stay, no penalties.
Stayed Shenzhen 7 days and had a ball. According to the locals the Sunshine is one of the best in Shenzhen. Unfortunately we got a smoking floor, don't know if there is any non-smoking places there - hard to find anywhere where there isn't someone either smoking or where they had just finished smoking, eating places, shops, taxis etc., found it hard to get Western food. Love Asian food but started to long for a grill after a week or so. Ate at the Landmark Hotel - set out like an old English manor inside. Loved the feel of the place and would love to stay there next time. We also visited the Panglin (opposite the Sunshine), the food great, a new building and in our opinion both are better than the Sunshine. We booked a deluxe room, it was small, NO drawers in the entire room. The only place where we lived out of our suitcases as we took little that could be hung up. Rooms noisy. There is double glazing but not airtight, therefore morning and nights we couldn't see out of the windows with the condensation. Also the noise from the corridors was loud. We will not stay at the Sunshine again, but can't wait to return to Shenzhen. It will be a toss up between the Shangri-la, Landmark or Panglin. All close to shopping and train station.
Staying in sunshine hotel was pleasent. Every morning house keeping deliver me the
copy of journal from internet of my country, and every body tries to assist me in all the way. They provide me the car to go to station anytime and the shopping area (dongmen) is 5 min walk. The exchange rate was beteer than the bank in town and you don't need to que up.(but they dont have foreign currency change, so don't go with big notes.)
The only thing I didint like very much is breakfast. I need big full cup of espresso every morning to wake up, but was included for only one demi espresso for free breakfast.
If you want more, you have to pay.
That's what I didnt like, but worth paying 805RMB a night.
NB:The spa area was closed when I stayed. If you need spa, you have to check with them!!
Shenzhen (SZ) is a special economic zone of China bordering Hong Kong. It's a prosperous city and some things are more expensive here than in the rest of China. My room was about RMB 900 which is still much less than what you would pay for something comparable in HKG. The hotel location is excellent. The gym is well equipped. Superb food.
