We chose this hotel in Shekou as we were visiting family living nearby. It was a pleasant surprise with all Western mod cons. The rooms were spacious. Small kitchen areas contained microwave, dishwasher and washing machine (with chinese instructions).. There were few plates or utensils but we were told these were available if required.
Flatscreen TVs and DVD players located in each room. Lots of stations to watch but only a few English-language. The beds were firm but we did not find this a problem.
Buffet Western and Chinese style breakfast was included in room rate. Small gym and day-spa on the premises.
The hotel is located a few minutes from the Shekou Ferry port. The Sea World restaurant area is a few minutes walk away. This contains a number of Western and Chinese style restaurants -- even Starbucks.
Lowu shopping area is more than half an hour away by taxi. Access should be improved next year when the metro is extended to Shekou.
This is our third stay here. My family and I love this place. We usually end up booking the one room apartment. This trip, they ran out of rooms and gave us one in the long stay area, which was a bit more run down then the rooms that we have had previously. But the place was still clean and comfortable and it's useful having a kitchenette to prepare simple food, drinks etc.
During our last stay in June, my son enjoyed the pool very much. We also had free breakfast that trip but seems like they have taken that off.
Location is quite good, just 5 minutes walk and you are right in the middle of the plaza where there are restaurants, bakeries, fast food joints and there are two small supermarkets nearby(10 minutes walk). Very convenient.
I notified my business partner in Shenzhen that I wanted to stay in Shekou during my visit. As he lives in this area of the city, he recommended Fraser Place.
Let me first admit: I'm typically the ex-pat who has no problem with immersing myself in the local language, bars, culture, etc. Shekou is definitely an environment that caters to someone who wants to essentially bring the West with them. Italian restaurants, Starbucks, and a couple of pubs adorn the Marine World area five minutes from the hotel. There's some supermarkets and local stores interspersed there as well. But as a caveat, I wouldn't stay in that area again if I returned -- probably would find a location in the Luo Hu or central areas. (Although I admit...the massage/salon place down the hill from the hotel, with it's $10/hr massages, was a gem!)
Anyway, onto the hotel: beautifully-maintained with very VERY spacious rooms and plenty of amenities. Even though I'm not in much need of serviced apartments, I appreciated the fact that I could go to the market, buy my noodles and dim sum, and have a steamer in my room to keep 'em cooked! The decor is modern and very smart.
The only complaint I had was the bed...or shall I call it the 'stone slab'? Hard as a rock. I asked the front desk for a mattress pad, and within 10 minutes three housekeeping folks were at my door with relief. THAT's considerate service!
All in all, a fantastic place to stay with a bright, attentive staff.
This is an apartment hotel in the Shekou area of Shenzhen. It is a great choice for families or long term stays as each suite has a kitchen and a laundry plus daily maid service. The decor is modern. By far the best hotel in Shekou. Only negative is they only have a small coffee shop, but it is within walking distance to the Seaworld area in Shekou which has restaurants from around the world.
