As has been mentioned in other reviews, the rooms at Royal Suites and Towers are enormous. I've stayed in standard suites and the so-called executive suites so far and they seemed exactly the same to me. The only difference is that the executive suite gusts have access to the executive lounge on the 34th floor for drinks and breakfast included in the price of the room. You can also check in and out in the lounge, though this is probably more faff than it's worth as they seem slower than the front desk. But always very friendly.

The suites themselves have a small kitchen, dining table, TVs with lots of English language channels in the lounge and bedroom and a desk with a fax machine. The fax machine is a real fax machine rather than a multi-function printer, so no idea where you print stuff out if you want to do that. The broadband connection is via ethernet and it's a fairly fast connection back to the UK (for China) and I was able to maintain a steady VPN into work at a rate high enough to do email and the like.

On the 4th floor there's a large pool and a gym with what you'd usually expect for a largish hotel gym. The pool is large enough for laps and the whole thing is open from 7am.

Breakfast is pretty decent and there's a choice between western cooked breakfast, salad, continental breakfast and a Chinese breakfast. They'll cook eggs for you to order. The breakfast on the 34th floor includes eggs to order as well, but the selection is otherwise smaller. There's a large restaurant on the 2nd floor that serves excellent food. I didn't pay for dinner, so I don't know whether it's good value for money.

Tip for the airport: get the hotel to book a limo van for you (RMB 200 per passenger (up to 6) or RMB 1000 for a private car). This will take you to the border where you go through the immigration hall to Hong Kong and get in another van. It's all very efficient and quite quick.

Finally, there are people everywhere! It seems that every little thing you might want to do yourself is done by staff. Some people might love this, but it gets on my nerves a bit. Whatever rocks yer boat I guess.

We stayed in the standard suite and it was impressive. It is big including a small dining table, kitchen, sink, range, cabinets, living area, computer work desk, a king bed in back with adjacent bathroom (the shower has dual action sprayers with adjustable pressure knob).

The bed is hard-very hard and the pillows are squishy.

The pool and fitness center are amazing: clean, ample, and up to date. This is a nice hotel. However, the location is questionable. This gem of a hotel is surrounded by a shafty area. Be careful when leaving and observant when touring.

The conceirge is helpful. They provided us with transportation from the hotel to the Shenzhen airport (cost around $140 RMB).

Went for this hotel after rivewing the previous comments for it on tripAdvisor.

Any place after opening generally gets better, however I can't say the same for this one.

After charging for a 5* luxury hotel, you would expect nothing but the best.

Yes the rooms were well furnished, bathrooms were good & clean too, however having said that there were quite a few tumbling blocks.

Had requested the lobby manager to change rooms on three occasions but fell on deaf ears.

Numero Uno: Not central at all,

Two the shower area was clogged & they did not attend it for 2 full days...Grrr fustrating

Three the room door would keep getting locked on its own.. leaving you stuck inside & having to call the front desk to get the room door opened.

Four... food could have been a lot better... they need to work on that seriously

All in all not really worth the price & distance for convinience point of view.

I booked the hotel based on the reviews I read here. Also, the price ($100) for a business suite seems to be like a great deal, compared with other hotels I was looking such as Crown Plaza.

The hotel claims to be the first boutique hotel in China. The smallish lobby and narrow hallway seems to convery that feel. The decoration is modern. Those black and white pictures and coffee colored furnitures look like directly from IKEA. The room is spacious enough, and the service is very promt and engaging.

The drawback is the lcoation. I am a leasure traveller. The hotel is on the east end of the city while most of the attractions are on the west edge of the town. Those 20 miles trip can get tiring pretty quickly. The hotel is located in a residential area, quite far from commercial and entertainment areas. You cannot walk to city shops and restaurants from the hotel.

On my way to the airport, the taxi driver told me some horrible stories about how unsafe the city is. He has witnessed many robberies in the bright daylight. Once, he saw a motorcyclist grabbing the purse of a girl, he even tried to run the motercycle over with his taxi, but to no vail. He also said gansters hide brick in the bag, as their motorcycles come close to a target, they hit them with the bag and grab the valuables. Many victims are still in coma. This is nothing against the hotel, but I will no visit Shenzhen anytime soon.

I chose the hotel based on the one good tripadvisor review on the 999 and several bad reviews on better known chain hotels in Shenzhen. Thanks tripadvisor for very valuable advice.

We stayed at the 999 Royal Suites & Towers for 5 nights to attend an exhibition and visit manufacturers. I loved the bay window in the bedroom where you can relax and enjoy the northeastern view of the many hills and parklands of Shenzhen. The suite is big and luxurious enough to suit somebody needing a long-stay furnished apartment. The service and friendliness of staff is almost overwhelming. You are constantly surrounded by keen, young, friendly Chinese faces - half of whom seem to inspect every corner to keep the hotel spotless. The fitness facilities are excellent. The free broadband internet access worked very well.

We paid US$89 a night. A full-fledged breakfast (Yum cha, Continental & English all in one, with lots of good coffee) was an additional 60 Yuan (US$7.5) pp and a superb lunch or dinner start at 38 Yuan (US$4.6). The service charge is an additional 15%.

The friendly English-speaking concierge wrote the Chinese names of all the places we wanted to visit on little hotel business cards, which made it very easy to communicate with taxi drivers.

At first I thought the location might be a drawback, since the 999 is towards the eastern end of Luohu district, while the Exhibition & Convention Centre is towards the west in the Futian district. However, all the traffic congestion is in the Futian district, so it's perfect if you want to take the train from Luohu station (10 min by taxi from the hotel).

I would still recommend the taxi. The taxi to or from the Exhibition centre was never more than 40 Yuan (US$5) and you get to experience the worst taxi-driving skills in the world at no extra charge.

If you are a tourist, the 999 may still be a good choice as the rail system is probably the best way to get to the tourist attractions like Window of the World and the China Folk Culture Village in the western part of Futian; and the Minsk aircraft carrier on the eastern coast.

We flew into Hong Kong Airport, which means you have to deal with the confusing customs on the LuoHu border. The SkyLimo service in their very bright orange jackets right outside the arrivals gate cost HK$200 (US$25) pp and is a must for first time visitors that can not speak Chinese.

We stayed at the 999 in June 04 and it was delightful. The room was clean and modern, with a curtained off bedroom, a living area, and kitchen. Small balcony. The bath room was very plush and modern. Large suite for the money--we paid $74 US a night.

Staff was very friendly and several spoke passable English--but they always went out of their way to help. They had a very nice breakfast and lunch buffet (fairly inexpensive) and the hotel restaurant stays open very late at night which we enjoyed. Lovely pool area that no one seemed to use--luxurious--outdoor on a roof area.

It took about 15 min for cab ride to commercial city at about $4 US. they even arranged van transport back to Hong Kong for us that was much easier than either taking the bus or train.
