We had a nice experience at the Old Observatory. It was very cold in Qingdao during our visit, snowy on one day, but the Hostel was warm and inviting (wood burning stove in the small common area). The clean showers had plenty of hot water and the room was comfortable. Great heater! The limited English speaking staff gave good directions and were helpful. We really appreciated the free airport pick-up that they provided. The lounge would have been a great place to hang out and enjoy the cit

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hostel has a great view of the city. It was very cold when I was there and the hostel is not really set up for proper heating. I was cold most of the time, wearing several layers and using 4 comforters to keep warm at night. It's a nice European beach town, but there's not a lot to do in winter.

A pity the dorm showers are in the basement, but the roof is really nice for a drink!

A little bit hard to find, but well worth it. Super staff, and awesome balcony on top. Good food as well.

Stayed here with my mum in March, it's a nice little hostel that seems unused to western tourists but willing to have a go! the staff are friendly and helpful (they rang around all day to get the best deals for us on flights to Shanghai).

spotlessly clean, and in an amazing renovated old observatory (as the name suggests!) at the top of a hill - the rooftop restaurant (try the chinese breakfast - it's delicious) has an incredible view of the city which is particularly atmostpheric at night. Early in the morning you can see huge crowds of locals practising tai chi on the forecourt outside the hotel, overlooking the great view across the town (all are welcome to join in!).

The walk into town is a good 15 mins or so, but it's nice to be somewhere away from the main busy area, and the lovely park and residential area around the hostel has a quiet charm of its own.

rooms are clean, big, and - amazingly - have international news stations on the in-room TVs! a real treat for news-hungry travellers sick of state-run news bulletins... i don't know how they get away with it in China. the ensuite bathrooms are also nice and clean (with hot water).

there's also a little mini stall selling instant noodle snacks, toiletries, drinks etc - the only 'in-hostel' travellers shop i saw in china, and a really handy resource.

definitely a good choice, and a cheap one too!

A charming place. Very clean (thank you), and a varied menu in the rooftop cafe, with pool table. Great views on a clear day. Another special feature is an assortment of original paintings on display, among other eye-catching posters, which are really quite good. Though the hilltop observatory location might seem removed, it's only a short walk to the centrally located Zhongqiao Pier. And the numerous stone pathways up the hill add a contemplative, peaceful feel to the atmosphere. Marble tile ba
