We stayed at the Tian Feng towards the end of last year. We found it to be a delightful place from every point of view. We could not fault it in any way. The carpets are so thick that you nearly sink into them. The place was spotlessly clean. Ah! There was a fault, a common Chinese hotel fault. The toaster in the breakfast room heats the bread but it certainly does not toast.
We were sufficiently impressed by the hotel to decide to make it our Nanjing hotel of choice. I'll be in Nanjing in the coming week and it's been my intention to stay at the Tian Feng once again.
First off, we reserved two rooms. They only saw one. That was easily fixed when they looked at the reservation and realized..oh! there's two rooms.
Then there was the issue of the air conditioning not making the room cold enough to be comfortable. So I switched rooms. This one was better, but still not cold. The room was humid so everything felt damp.
Then what happens at 9 in the morning? BAM BAM BAM. Construction is going on throughout the hotel, but come on...right next door to a guest? Mostly hammering, but some drilling as well. Incredibly annoyed, even called the manager who said he'd 'take care of it'. Nothing happened.
Oh and let's not forget the spit covered elevator floor, no air conditioning in the elevators, the staff standing next to the front door, but not opening the door for you....this list can go on and on. I haven't even been here 24 hours yet.
Maybe this hotel will be up to par in 5 years after they re-evaluate their customer service needs. Because right now, it is too expensive (398 rmb) for this quality.
