A very good centrally located 4* hotel (not quite 5*) which provided us with a very pleasant two night stay on our 17 day tour of China. Our room was of an appropriate standard for its star rating. The bathroom was spotless with generous supplies of the usual sundries (toothbrush, paste, comb, shampoo etc.) We used the restaurant only for breakfast which catered for both Eastern and Western tastes with an outstanding variety of food. The quality was very good also. The service all round was very good. We used the subways to explore the many shopping centres and departmental stores nearby. Must see sites in Nanjing include the Yangtse river and bridge, the Confucius Temple, Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum and the City gates and Walls each brick bearind the worker's name. Several of our party including myself were in need of a massage after two long days of site-seeing and were recommended a clinic within walking distance of the hotel by our guide. It was excellent and a must for weary tourists!
As we were on an organised tour this was a very pleasant, centrally located hotel that ticked most of the boxes.
We booked this hotel through our corporate recommendation. We were immediately wow'ed by the appearance of a five-star lobby after a long journey, and hence more than willing to pay an additional US$100 per night to be upgraded to a business suite on the top floor. The room was very well furnished, but our nightmares began with the finding of a big "stain" on our sofa as we sat down to relax. It was revolting to find that in any room, nevermind a room we paid additional money for on purportedly the best floor of the hotel. Our disappointment continued at the hotel's dinning room where we chose to have a buffet dinner - not only was the selection poor and the food worst than most other restaurants we've visited in China, the head chef behind the counter seemed to scoff at us as we went to get food. The next evening we were looking for massage service, which is a very healthy recreation in other hotels and cities we've visited. We were subsequently directed to the basement of the hotel, and had to stumble through a "night club" (ie: brothel) in order to reach the spa. We were then met by a "pimp" who showed us two "massage therapists" wearing very short chinese dresses, wearing high heels. In shock still, we accepted the massages which turned out to be uneventful but ridiculously over priced. As my massage finished, my therapist asked me to put a tip on the bill (I've never in my life had someone ask me for a tip). My boyfriend paid the very rude pimp at the front desk - only after which I found out there was already a 15% service charge included in our fees. To top it all off was the way our complaints were handled by the customer service representative. Her idea of addressing complaints consisted of patronizing and insulting us with crappy stuffed toys and a cook book so we could make our own food at home. Simply bizarre.
Needless to say, we would never return and would recommend no one else stay here either.
When we stayed we shared the hotel with the Party Chairman of the ruling party of Taiwan. The first visit of such a high ranking official from Taiwan since 1947. That showed us how highly the local officials rated it.
If I had one criticism it would be that we had slightly larger and better lit rooms in other four star hotels on the tour.
That said, the rooms were still good.
In all other respects, staff, facilities, location, breakfast etc etc, this hotel could not be faulted.
The hotel also provided a top rate western buffet dinner.
Slap bang in the centre of Downtown Nanjing, The Jinling is a well-
known landmark in town. It doesn't look fantastic from the outside, and from our room the views were dramatic but not beautiful, and yet it was an enjoyable place to stay.
The lobby is attractive and the staff helpful. there's a great choice at breakfast, and the restaurant is relaxing, with subdued lighting and views of a small garden outsice.
The rooms are comfortable and with all the usual amenities you'd expect in a 5* hotel - large plasma screen TV and nice bathroom and toiletries etc.
I used the pool briefly - its pleasant enough, but a bit 'lonely' somehow - certainly not in the realms of a 'resort' pool, but then its not a resort!
Well-placed for strolling the streets at night and enjoying the buzz of this boomig city, the Jinling was an enjoyable and relaxing place to stay.
This is my second time staying at the Jinling Hotel, Nanjing. They are constantly making improvements to make your stay comfortable. I loved everything about this hotel. It is so close to shops and dining in the nearby mall. It has Haagen Dazs and Starbucks nearby. I think the breakfast buffet is really good. I can have lots of different choices each day. The desk staff speak good English and are very helpful. I love the big flat screen tv, the two headed shower and the modern design. The bed is softer than some in China and have great bedding. A real reading light, free internet. Free fruit in the room, comfy robes. I did not think the room too small, but I am just one person - two might be less spacious. I highly recommend it.
The hotel is a 5 star property in a good location. The room was quite small but had all the amenities of a 5 star property. Would recommend staying here when in Nanjing.
Best hotel on the Travelsphere Discover China Tour.
Large spacious lobby, good sized rooms and good facilities. Great shower .
Breakfast was excellent. Quality and choice far superior to any of the other hotels on the tour. Central location with loads of shops all around. Haagen Daas Ice cream parlour next door..Yummy!
I stayed in japanese style room and the room is fine but not bright enough. The room is very clean with frequent make-up room service. The location is not that convenient as no other restaurants around the are except their in-house restaurant. I took taxi every night for food and sometimes unlucky enough waited for 45min for the taxi to come during peak hours. The breakfast is fine. Overall no complain since its near to my working location otherwise I would prefer to stay at the city.
Stayed here as part of a China Tour, it is one of the very large hotels in the city and certainly gives an up-market feel with plenty of staff around to open doors and guide you to dining room tables etc.
The entrance is back a little from the road and the foyer is extremely plush and open.
The dining room is quite large and serves a good selection of buffet meals at breakfast and dinner, the food quality is very good and the waiting staff very helpful.
The rooms are quite spacious, they have all the usual stuff; TV, fridge, mini bar, safe drinking water, bathroom freebies. The room was clean and the beds comfortable.
The pool/fitness room is well appointed and I recommend a visit.
Outside the hotel and to reach the shops there is an underpass to cross the very busy road (make sure you remember the correct exit number when coming back), there are a lot of department stores, smaller shops and market stalls nearby, and the underpass system is also full of shops.
Probably the best hotel in this town, not exactly the Shangri-la in another second tier city like Fuzhou but location is very convenient. It's worth negotiating or talking your way into a better room, some rooms are refurbished and some of the older suites are very good.
Business centre food selection is awful and sometimes you will have to push the staff a bit to get things done, but push and you will succeed!
Most visitors are there for business as it's not a fab tourist destination and I guess that's who they cater for. Good laundry / dry cleaning service there and good Japanese restuarant (I don't recommend the other restaurants - go to the mall opposite and into the basement)
Stayed at the JInling Hotel as part of a Travelsphere tour. It's rated as 5 star and is a 30 storey building right in the centre of Nanjing. We were disappointed that we asked for a non smokers room and were given a smokers room and this spoilt the stay. It was every you expect from a 5 star including prices. The pool was a bit on the cool side but we were the only ones in there so every cloud has a silver lining.
I stayed at the Nanjing Jinling hotel because I was told it is the nicest in the city. If you are a foreigner looking for a 5 star hotel experience, this is not the place. The beds are hard and the rooms smell. The workout facilities are ok, but old. The staff is generally friendly unless a Chinese person is also in line at which time they will eagerly help the Chinese in front of you. The price is great because it includes 2 free breakfast buffets with a pretty good selection, but I think this is better suited for travelling students looking to stay somewhere nicer than a hostel without blowing their budget. If I were to stay at a hotel in Nanjing again I would spend 15 dollars at some average local hotel because from what I hear all the hotels in Nanjing are just as bad.
Probably the most exclusive hotel I have ever stayed in – anywhere in the world!
When and why we stayed:
Stayed for one night in November 2006 during a Highlights of China tour.
Cost:
The hotel rate was included in the overall cost of our holiday.
Room:
Our room (1201) was superb – contemporary styled with glass and wood. The room had a huge king-sized bed; glass business table with ISDN socket and lamp; a mini bar; tea & coffee making facilities. The TV’s channels included ESPN; CNN & BBC World. Slippers and bath robes were provided. The bathroom was spacious and spotless with shower gel; shampoo; tooth brushes etc provided free-of-charge. Two bottles of complimentary water were left for us each day. Room service offered Chateau Lafitte Rothschild at 6900 yuans per bottle.
The Hotel:
The hotel deserves its five-stars rating. Service was excellent. It is full of facilities: a gym; swimming pool; bars; restaurants; and expensive designer stores (Burberry; Polo Ralph Lauren etc). A shopping mall is connected to the hotel. There is a surreal “German” brauhaus in the hotel’s basement, where you can enjoy the Happy Hour and listen to a Filipino cover band sing Olivia Newton John and Summer of 69. The bar is reached by an interesting journey past the adjoining “karaoke” lounge (nothing to do with the hotel!) complete with ladies wearing white gowns. The breakfast buffet in Jin’s Café was an excellent mix of east meet west: fruit; dim sum; cereals; noodles; bacon; rice; and cooked-to-order omelettes.
Location:
Central Nanjing – in the main business / shopping area. A Metro station is under the hotel.
The city:
Nanjing is a modern busy city. It has lots of trees and the Yangtze River. The huge bridge over the river, built in the 1960’s, is worth a visit – don’t miss the gigantic Chairman Mao statue beneath the bridge. The Mausoleum of Dr Sun Yat-sen (referred to as "father of modern China") was impressive. Make the 392 steps climb for great views of the city and to view Sun’s tomb.
Five star hotel. Only stayed one night within a tour so can't comment on the facilities but the room was clean, staff friendly and breakfast was great (Western or Chinese food).
A very good hotel in the very cener of the city with excellent restaurants, ticket office, and shops. The room is nice and clean and has an excellent heating control system, but the closet is small and less well laid out.
Excellent hotel, Just got back from a trip for four nights at the Jinling. I must say, this is one of my favourite hotels. I stayed in an executive room on the top floor (for rooms), the 35th. The view was nothing to look at really, but I keep the curtains closed anyway.
Spacious, elegant, modern and comfortable rooms. The rooms were immaculate and well appointed. There was also a plasma TV and a DVD player and the bathroom had a glass wall (there is a curtain which can only be closed from the bathroom, by the way!) and a volume button connected to the TV so you could watch the TV while in there! On the ceiling above the bathtub, there is a shower head there as well, but it sprays cold water. If you turn the nozzle the wrong way round... It's freezing! The partitions in place of the curtains are a huge improvement. They can block out quite a lot of noise, especially when everyone is lighting fireworks near the hotel.
At the business centre, there were magazines like time and fortune, plus the South China Morning post (But 2 days out of date, it's printed in Hong Kong. You can also borrow DVDs from the business centre to watch.
The pool is quite nice, but not great if you are in for swimming laps. The gymnasium is newly renovated and is great for a workout.
The hotel offers a lot of choices of dining, and the quality of the food and service has remained consistently high. It's a good thing they have the Business centre open to executive floor guests, Jin's cafe was so packed that the guests had to line up past the public bathrooms!
The service from the staff is excellent. When you ask them to send something up, they get it done in two minutes. The staff are also courteous and try their best to make your stay enjoyable. The staff are also multilingual, and the cleaning staff even speak English, which is a pleasant surprise.
The pricing is very reasonable, at $788RMB, when cmpared to places like New York and Hong Kong.
Overall, an excellent hotel, one of my favourites. Glad to see the standards have not dropped at all.
Will definitely be returning when I visit Nanjing, even though it was a four-night stay, it didn't seem long enough!
However, if there is one thing I question, it is the hotel class rating TripAdvisor has given. Without a doubt, the Jinling is 5-star.
We stayed at this hotel October 2005 with a tour group. Excellent in every way, including a good breakfast. Recommended to anyone seeking a bit of luxury.
My husband and I stayed at Jinling Hotel from Dec. 2003-Aug.2005. The employees, from housekeeping to assistant manager, did everything possible to make us comfortable and welcome. Some of them used their days off to help me with the language barrier when dealing with the local businesses and to locate hard to find items.(international food stores)
The assistant manager kept track of our VISAs and would notify us when they got close to expiring. We didn't have to worry about anything.
I would highly recommend Jinling Hotel to amyone traveling to Nanjing.
This hotel is very comfortable. The food is excellent with a wide choice of Chinese, Japanese and European cuisine. The staff are friendly and helpful.
I had a room on the 34th floor of the Jinling Hotel for 4 nights. The room was fantastic! Large, clean, modern, plasma TV on wall and a cool two way shower. Service was top notch. I had trouble getting internet connection one morning (7:30 am) so I called for help from their IT guy. Within 2-3 minutes the guy is at my door and a few minutes later I'm connected. On my last day, I realized I needed my shoes shined before leaving. So I called housekeeping at 8am for shoe shine service. 2 minutes later the guy knocks on my door and takes my shoes. 5 minutes later he returns with my shoes buffed and ready to go! The Japanese restaurant inside the hotel is top notch as well (it is managed by Japanese couple). Only thing I didn't like was the outdated gym/fitness room. Otherwise, I will definitely stay here again on my next trip.

Large comfortable rooms, impressive public areas. Great breakfast, best we had in China. Shame we only had one night here.
