It looks really funky from the outside when we arrived at night. Bright blue light surrounding the new hotel.
As you walk in, you are greeted by these really tall asian girls.
(Warning, they do wear really short mini skirt) You see people taking photos with them, and they greet arriving and departing guests.
We arrived late, around 9pm , so they upgraded us to the Executive Room for free.
The Executive room was really beautiful designed (except the power plugs area which we found it was a silly design) and spacious room in Asia standard.
The bathroom was well designed too, as you can watch TV whilst taking a bubble bath. Yes, the bathroom is designed with a big glass panel.
The concierge and receptions were friendly and speak decent English.
They have many facilities within this new hotel complex, from Casion, to restaurants to gym. They even have Karaoke.
We didn't get a chance to try all the facilities except the casino.
Not a big casino, but a decent one.
The location is great too as you are close to other big brand hotels & casino. They have free shuttle bus to & from the ferry terminal.
It was my first trip to macau and i went on the trip with my mum and sister. I booked the room from the hotel website and paid close to SGD500 per room per night for 3 pax with an additional bed. Booking through the hotel website seems much more expensive, which i only realised after i plan to make my 2nd trip in Jan 09. We took free shuttle bus from airport (only two hotels from the airport provide free shuttle bus, namely Venetian and Grand Emperor) to Grand Emperor and pulled my luggages to Starworld which is across the opposite side of the street linked via underpass. No escalator in the underpass, so if you have senior with you, i propose you take taxi. I figured macau airport is too near to the hotels, so forget about saving the penny. When we checked in the hotel, the lobby is beautiful and they have performing artists walking around to keep guests entertained and you may take pictures with them. You see alot of tall sexy girls that are at least 1.7M tall standing around the hotel lobby to greet and assist you, i presume man would love it. The manager upgraded us to business suite which i was more than happy to accept. Everything in the hotel looks nice and new, even the toilets and lift lobby. The buffet breakfast is good and there is a outdoor pool which we did not get to use due to bad weather. Pool has no privacy as guests can see you swimming or sun tanning from their room corridor. The casino in the hotel is small compared to other bigger casino , good if you are lazy to walk to other casino. Wynn is just next to Star and MGM is right behind Wynn. Sands and Lisboa is 5 min walking distance from Star. Hotel staff are polite and provide good service. The bath room has a see through glass panel into the room so you can still watch tv while soaking bath, or you may pull the blind if you are shy :) Overall I would say this is probably one of the better good quality high end hotel that i have stayed, nothing for me to complain about other than the price. If you are want convenient and a little luxury and not on budget, I recommend that you give this hotel a shot.
A weekend getaway in Macau calls for a nice hotel that has a good location and is above average. The StarWorld definitely ticks all the boxes at a (relatively) reasonable price. I had to delay my dates there due to a typhoon, but the reservations department there were very efficient and helpful in changing my arrival and departure dates. So was a good start.
All casino hotels have buses from the Macau Ferry Terminal and it was only a short ride (5 minutes or less) to the hotel. Greeted with welcoming smiles and was efficiently checked in to my Executive Room.
The room was very clean and felt comfortable. Everything was where it should have been, with the bathroom having a awesome "rain" showerhead. There was a separate bath. Room service was prompt and, as expected, friendly with no problems.
The casino is biased toward the asian market, moreso than, say, MGM or Wynn - it just has a different feel. There is a Poker room on the 2nd floor.
Overall, the location is perfect (beside Wynn), the staff are super-friendly and the rooms are great. I would definitely stay here again.
This is one of the best casino properties that I have ever stayed in. The lobby is breathtaking, the rooms are beautifally appointed with beautiful views of Macau harbour. The bus service from the ferry terminal is extremely efficient. The food is very well done. The dancers greeting you upon check-in are also a great, innovative touch.
The property is also conveniently located to other casinos and to shopping across the road.
Visually, the hotel is absolutely stunning. Beautiful building with a lot of splendor. An excellent welcome, starting from the shuttle bus, a help with the luggage to a quick check in. We had a wonderful room at the executive part of the building (31st floor - accessible only through the VIP lounge) with magnificent views over the bridges to Taipa, Wynn, Grand Lisboa etc. Truly pleasant experience, It's been a real fun to come back there every night. The fact that it's probably the nicest smelling hotel might be worth mentioning as well.
Very helpful and polite staff, the tallest Asian girls with the shortest dresses in Macau waiting to say hello at the lobby, the performers warming up the crowds... very lively atmosphere in deed.
Try the 17th floor - outdoor swimming pool with a nicely chilled water - a true pleasure.
Try the japanese restaurant at the 5th floor as well- very pricey but the soups are worth to die for.
We had an absolutely fantastic stay...
On " the dark side" of our stay I would mention only a complete ignorance of the fact that it was our honeymoon stay.
Despite that we weren't treated like honeymooners, we were treated like a royality, so I guess we can skip that part...
This hotel is truly one of best establishments we've stayed at. Although we stayed in a deluxe room, I am imagine all the accommodations in this hotel are well appointed.
I absolutely love the smell of the entire facility; it's almost like the scent of man's cologne. It is quite distinct, so if you're sensitive to smell this is something to consider. There is access to the hotel elevators without going through a casino, which was a welcome change as we were accustomed to "Vegas" way of doing things.
The rooms are large and comfortable which a chic, modern edge. Our room was well stocked with all the necessities including plush robes and slippers. The location was convenient to nearby casinos and dining.
The staff was courteous and helpful. We did have an issue with an item that we ordered from room service, but I imagine that it was more of a cultural/communication misunderstanding rather than an oversight on their part.
All in all, I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a high end lodging experience.
I picked this hotel as it was recomended by my friend and it turned out to be the right decision. Hotel is centrally located, just next door to Wynn and a 5 minute walk to MGM. Senado Sq was just 10-15 minutes away.
The check-in was smooth and they were able to let us check in early at 1130 which was much appreciated as I was travelling with a baby and my elderly parents. The receptionists were all very helpful and polite. Our deluxe rooms faced the sea and gave us a good view of the "new " Macau. Rooms were nicely appointed with large LCD tvs and relatively huge bathrooms with a seperate shower and bath. Our rooms came with breakfast and the buffet had a decent combination of asian and western dishes although I did wish by the 4th day, that there was a little more variety as they did not change the choice of food very much.
The gym was adequate and all the equipment was well maintained. I suppose most come to Macau to gamble rather than work-out, so the equipment was all brand new. The infinity pool looked rather fetching but as it was raining quite a bit during our stay, I did not swim.
The best part of our stay there I would say is the service by the staff. We really did not have a bad experiece, all the staff from the conceriege to the waiters were attentive and polite. In fact they attended to our complaint that the rooms smelt a little funny immediately and even the duty manager came to apologise after they sovled the problem.
However from an environmental point of view, I don't quite understand why they need to make the corridors and public areas so cold. It seemed like such a waste of energy.
But overall, my family had a good stay and we would come back again especially for the price we paid.
Before the trip, we advised the hotel that we were on a honeymoon trip, however there was definintely no recognition on this. Despite providing both names, only one was captured and the person at Reception was even reluctant to register myself.
Newspaper delivery was inconsistent and chargeable despite the high rates commanded. Cashier made mistake to refund me money which was prepayment. Fortunately for her, we were honest enough to inform her.
Worst of all, the guest comment card left on first day was taken but not responded. We stayed for 4 nights and nobody acknowledged the service shortfalls we encountered. The hotel did not have the courtesy to reply to me via email.
Definitely not returning to a hotel which did not care.
Galaxy Starworld is definitely what I looked for in Macau. A Vegas in the East with an Asian twist. I deliberately decided to stay away from the big Vegas names (MGM, Wynn, Venetian) to get a more Macau-style experience.
Rooms: Asked for the deluxe room (which are on the higher floors) and had a view of the lagoon (Macau Tower, Grand Lisboa Casino). This alone was definitely worth the visit. The rooms are nice. The bathroom is seperated from the bedroom by a large glass window (which can be covered with blinds for privacy). The rooms were overall clean, and surprisingly comfortable (though other hotels might be more luxurious).
Lobby: The lobby is an experience in itself. During the day, there are about 5-10 women in high-heels, tight dress, just standing around to greet clients.
Service: I did not expect much from the concierge service. Like any Vegas-styl hotel, there is no personnal touch and everything seems standard. The concierge was very polite and spoke english perfectly (which is rare in Macau).
Breakfast was a buffet of both western and asian foods. The food was good.
Like all the other big Casino centers, Starworld offers a free shuttle bus service to the Ferry piers and to the Airport (less frequent).
Amenities: The casino is a Macau casino. (I visted the casino of Grand Lisboa, MGM, Wynn - except from the Grand Lisboa, all other casino were similar).
Location: The Starworld, Grand Lisboa and Wynn probably have the best locations. Are are located within 3 minutes of each others, and are close (10 minute walk) from most tourist attractions (St Paul Church, Old Town, Restaurants).
Room for Imrpovement:
Upon arrivale from Hong Kong (at the Ferry terminal), we were accompanied to the Shuttle bus. At the hotel we immediately went in to check-in bexpecting our luggage to follow us. The suitcases however remained in the bus and were about to return to the Ferry terminal (along with the bus) as we realised that. One of the valets was very helpful in locating the bus before it left to the Ferry and fetching our luggage. One would expect such a hotel to at least make sure that all the bags are taken out of the bus as clients arrive. Tip: Just keep track of your bags when you arrive.
Elevators are excessively slow. This certainly will not ruin your stay (a 20-30 second wait for an elevator won't change much) but it can get frustrating at times.
At fist I had no clue about this hotel I booked it because it was what was available after trying to stay at the other brands I am familiar with like Wynn and Venetian. But I must say thanks to the Beyouce concert which I did end up going to at the Venetian being in town I found a new liking for a hotel I would have not have stayed at. So do to the amount of people in Macau I came across a very clean organized and helpful hotel. I was upgraded to an executive level room and was given a fruit basket along with a bottle of wine which I did enjoy later in the night after some eating, concert, shopping and gambling. These rooms also do have their own sitting louge on the bottom floor and own elevators. The casino is pretty hip but I really am not into the whole baccarat scene as is pretty prevalent in Macau. Anyhow enjoyed other hotels in the surrounding area like the Wynn which is right across the street so I went to the lounge their and mingled. So considering the price of other hotels in this area this hotel/casino has pretty darn good value. I did not use the other facility offerings like pool or spa so I really cannot comment on those but again for the price, service and location not bad at all.
Stayed at this hotel overnight for a business conference. Conference room was large, spacious, modern, clean, service was top notch as well as tech facilities. Our company got upgraded to Executive rooms, I had a room on the 37th floor- which meant that when we entered our rooms, we had 'special VIP' lifts which meant no more delays in lifts as we were able to go straight up to our floors wih hardly any stops. The rooms were spacious with gorgeous river views of the city. The bathroom was great, had the 'waterfall' style shower, bath was a treat ad you can perfectly watch TV while in the bath- a definitely luxury. Shampoo & Conditioner, were the expensive type with a lovely aromotherapy fragrance. Our package had complimentary breakfast which was decent but nothing lavish but theres so many eateries on the street I would save some stomache space to eat outside for lunch. The pool is only 1.1m high, is relatively small but this is compensated with great views of the city you can enjoy while swimming and also had these cute sun baking 'huts' a couple can sleep in while sun baking- like a bed beside the pool! Didnt really use the gym so cant comment. We had a few hiccups as at times we were bothered by rennovation sounds so when I spoke to the hotel manager about it, he personally investigated the problem and straight away apologised and offered our group late check out (even though they were packed out, we know this is for sure as my friend tried to book an extra night but couldnt) and also offered us some complimentary snacks. So it really shows this hotel really does value their customers! Overall minus the business, the whole stay was relaxing and we felt spoilt the whole time we were there, definitely felt like VIP's!
After I read the NY Times article, I decided to put myself up in this hotel. NYT:
This hotel is a stack of colorfully lit blocks of different sizes and designs, the brainchild of Rocco S. K. Yim, whose firm has several notable buildings in Hong Kong and mainland China to its credit.
Musicians mingle with leggy greeters in a gaping, gaudy lobby splashed with copper and gold like a Catskill resort. The casino above jangles with a sensory overload of lights and sounds.
Rooms are small and cheap but still luxurious. The minibar is stocked for partying: energy drinks, throat lozenges and condoms along with Chinese favorites like dried cuttlefish and rice wine. Service is almost instantaneous, with a high level of English fluency.
---
It was right in line with what the NY Times said. We got the rooms at a cheap price, but the luxury was comparable to any Ritz-Carlton. I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends.
By the way, I think I'm starting to like Macau better than Vegas. It's definitely a more mature type of fun and the people are classy (unlike the rednecks who frequent Vegas).
Not functioning very well - management is bad and untrained - staff are slack and don't care - air pollution in Macau is unbearable - I came back with a hacking cough and respiratory infections...

Macau is dirty; smelly and filthy.
StarWorld operators are incompetent...
