The Good: it's located within the city, walking distance to a bank, a short taxi ride to some decent restaurants we found in our guide book (frommers). The airport and rail road station are both very close. The longmen grottoes are not too far either <30minutes.
The service is decent. Only one person seemed to speak good english (the manager i believe) but she seemed to be available whenever we needed help or had a question/request and she was always very helpful.
The Bad: the carpet and tiling in the bathroom both leave significant room for improvement when it comes to cleanliness. The AC didnt exactly work ... fortunately when we opened the window there was a great draft.
Probably a 2 star hotel by US standards. There aren't many better places in louyang ... so all things considered, for one night this wan't too bad. If i had to stay here again for just one night, knowing some of the reviews for other louyang hotels i've read ... i probably would (but beyond 1-2 nights, you should probably find someplace nicer).
This high rise hotel looked great from the outside and had a very flashy entry foyer raising ones expectations. However the rooms are very small and oriental style decor dated and could do with a makeover. Bathroom also small and shower head faulty so you just get a solid stream of water not a spray (friends in 2 other rooms had the same problem)
Nice view from the revolving restaurant on the 25th floor , breakfast OK, but buffet dinner was the worst food we had in china in 2 weeks there.
We were told that this was a 4 star hotel but personally it maybe just makes 3 and none of our group would stay there again.
The staff at the Peony Plaza Hotel are among the most helpful and friendly you'll ever meet.
The rooms are so-so, but the hotel restaurant is excellent and the staff more than makes up for anything.
Highly recommended.
