Hotel is average in terms of cleanliness. Beds weren't the best. Service was ok but not a lot of english spoken. Kunming itself is very commercial so unless you really have to see the stone forest it is best to avoid the town.
However - very noisy during the 3 days I stayed there due to ongoing construction work in the hotel. Clearly the hotel should have warned about this in advance or closed the hotel during the renovation work.
The hotel has internet access from the rooms, but speed is very slow - a common problem in China.
We stayed at the Kunming Hotel for four days. The travel agent that booked it, said it was the best four star hotel in Kunming and was very excited about the property. We were not as impressed, but it was satisfactory, but maybe would be more appropriately described as a 2 or 3 star Chinese hotel, not up to Western standards of English.
Our room was a good size and had working cable with one English channel. The free breakfast was decent, with some non-Chinese offerings.
The biggest challenge was finding a map in English or any tourist help finding locations or booking travel or transport. For that, we were told to go across the street to the Holiday Inn, which happened to have closed 2 years ago!
I bet this hotel is better for Chinese speaking guests.
This hotel is excellent. We found the staff to be most helpful in responding to our needs and our questions. The rooms are clean and comfortable and we found the location to be well situated for our explorations of Kunming. The breakfast buffet is quite good. We will not hestitate to stay here on future trips.
Very good hotel with a very helpful and nice staff, very central location. Rooms are very clean and pleasant, the breakfast is very good, a lot of choice with western and chinese food. Good ambience, seems to be the hotel for chinese businessmen. The business center is however disappointing, only one computer was working and internet connection is expensive (30 Yuans/hour). So, we strongly recommend it !

Nice Hotel by Chinese standards.
