Nice hotel. Rooms are the smallest I've seen though in a Hong Kong hotel. Stayed at the Grand Hyatt last year and the rooms are much larger.

The JW Marriott is otherwise nicely appointed. Basement connects with the Pacific Place Mall and subway so no need to go outside if it is really hot and steamy.

Also right next to the Conrad hotel.

Overall, the JW Marriott was in an excellent location to explore the city with its proximity to the metro and city layout (it's also connected to a fabulous shopping mall). The hotel is somewhat pricy, even by US standard, but I feel that it lived up to the JW Marriott name.

Being platinum members, we were upgraded to the concierge floor with access to the lounge, which had excellent breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour selections (one of the best in all the Marriott, Hilton, Starwood chains we've ever stayed at). The lounge also had a computer for guest use, but limited to 30 minute internet a day. Everyone working in the lounge were super nice, very helpful, and extremely professional in helping us with questions on shopping, food, transportation, etc.

The cab ride from the airport train stop was short (maybe 30 HKD), check-in was fast & efficient, and they brought up the bags immediately. The welcome tea was a nice touch, and they brought us fresh mango/orange/apple every day (someone always left a big tray on the table everyday when we got back). They also have an electric hot tea pot, nice touch!

Our room only had a view of the mountain in the back, the bay view would've been much nicer thou. The room and bathroom were of decent size (compare to US hotels) and had everything a hotel should provide, so nothing to complain there.

We used the pool couple of times, because of design it doesn't get much sun, so nothing special, lots of kids there running around. If you have a room on the higher floor, you can see the pool of the next hotel (Conrad?) and it's much designed!

I would probably stay there again on the next trip to HK, the location alone is worth it.

I’m not sure that I get what all the raves are about here. As a lot people have pointed out, it’s pricy, and for the price, the amenities and service are just not up to scratch. For a basic room that lists at upwards of 400USD/night, I think that I could expect to find a bathroom devoid of traces of the previous occupant’s toothpaste in the sink or his use of the toilet. (Apologies to the faint of heart, but I am referring to urine stains, floating scraps of toilet paper and pubes.) The garçon d’étage who brought my welcome tea was back in a flash with a bucket, sponges and brushes, but still I shouldn’t have had to ask. So my stay got off to a bad start and things haven’t improved much. (I checked in yesterday, and am still here.)

The welcome tea was a nice touch, but the fruit plate served with it, and since replenished (an under-ripe banana, one mealy apple and two dry oranges) was completely uninspired. Wouldn’t a couple of lychees, a slice of dragon fruit, or even a mandarin orange (for example) been more in keeping with the alleged calibre of the hotel and the destination?

After a long trip, I don’t think that a little bottle of shampoo for my shower would be asking for too much. Some shower gel would have been nice. Instead I found two bars of soap, two shower caps and a sewing kit. And a rather handsome canister of bath salts. So I can soak my weary muscles, just not wash my hair.

Amazingly, when the room was made up today, again no shampoo, gel or conditioner was provided and I had to call for some to be brought.

While I’m on the subject of the room, I was told that I was ”upgraded” to a recently renovated one. The mustard upholstery is pure 70s. No, not Asian gold. Mustard. The renovated room is entered with a metal key (no key chain). The wooden furnishings are scratched and scuffed. The light control by the bed looks like old Otis elevator buttons and if you use the do not disturb button, it will provide a red, bedside night light, right at eye level. You cannot turn on the room lights from the door (which means that you cannot turn off everything as you leave either). There is no socket to plug in the electric kettle that sits on the mini bar. Making a cup of tea means carrying the kettle over to the desk. (By the way, having paid extortionate mini-bar prices the world over, I find 88HKD (over 11USD) for a litre of ordinary water excessive. And the two complimentary bottles of water that should have been in place when I arrived were not there. I only learned that they should have been when I found them there today. The four (why four?) "At Your Service" buttons on my phone failed to work, and voicemail button connected to the operator, then stopped working altogether. I had to call from the house phone to get it fixed. The safe malfunctioned just as I was leaving for dinner (and needed my wallet). The bed was made with loads of pillows. I made my choice and left the unused pillows on the armchair. When I came back this afternoon, there they were, sitting on the armchair. Couldn't they have been put in the closet at least? I haven’t seen any of the other rooms but at very least the moral of this story is don’t take Room 814 if you’re stuck here.

I was greeted warmly and my bags were efficiently whisked away before I had both feet out of the cab and from there I was escorted to reception. But then I had to wander all the way back to the front door after checking in to locate my bags and someone to take them (and me, as at reception no indication had been given as to what direction I might set off in) to the room. On my way there, I dodged a couple of room service platters that had been put out after dinner. Fair enough. But the fact that the same dirty dishes were still sitting in the hallway two hours later is more evidence of lack of attention to detail.

I tried out the gym today. Decent equipment, but all pushed into a cramped, windowless space. There are a jacuzzi, steam and sauna room (though again lack of detail means no hose or shower in the steam room). Overall, I found the hotel’s public spaces cavernous and a little soulless. But I’m here, I’ll stay and I’ll survive. But I won't do it again. If you end up here, don’t expect a five-star experience. I've had better in comfy two-stars.

The location is good but the rooms are very average. The rooms are cramped with barely enough space to walk around. If you're looking to stay in a good location and need a small room to sleep, this is a good hotel. If you're expecting the amentities you've seen at other JW Marriott in North America or Asia, you'll be very disappointed, as we were.

My experience with this hotel was good.

- fairly nice and modern room with an excellent sound system and big flat screen TV.

- Nice and helpful staff. I asked if they had for a non-smoking room with a view and they made it possible. They made me visit the room first.

- I had a partial view on the bay. Large windows that gives the impression to be in the sky.

- Good location, not far from center, underground, ferry. Big shopping mall in the basement.

However,

- there is a very noisy motorway just beneath. Despite thick windows the noise was coming in (I was on the lower floors, 12th).

- be careful to lock door if don't want to be disturbed. I was taking a shower while somebody from the staff entered the room to bring welcome fruits. I didn't hear any doorbell, I probably didn't hear it....

- room size was not big but still very well suited. I guess it is not common to waste space in Hong Kong.

Finally, I was happy about this hotel but it is in the range of such an hotel category. I didn't have time to try any facilities.

This Hotel has an excellent location as it is close to the MTR and Financial centers in Hong Kong. The hotel is very convenient and the facilities are excellent. There is not a lot of variety in the restaurants so it is a good idea to eat out. The room is very convenient and has an excellent distribution. The only problem with the hotel are that the beds are tougher than a cement floor.

Glad we booked into the JW Marriott. From check in to departure, it was truly a superb 5 Star experience. We stayed there for 9 days with a break in between for a side trip to China. We were offered the same room. Within minutes of both check ins, luggage was delivered to be followed by hot tea and fresh fruit, which we found very delightful and refreshing. These are the details that set a hotel apart from others.

Services were very professional with a smile, and help is offered everywhere through out the hotel.

We were upgraded with a harbour view on a lower floor with in a newly renovated room. Room is tasteful designed with contemporary features although it is not huge. We did not notice any renovation activities but were informed upon checked in.

Taxi to the hotel was to $350 HKD. We used the taxi as we were not familiar with the Airport Express subway line. We tried the Airport Express upon our return from a side trip to China, we definitely will use the Airport Express in future for the convenience and comfort and the ease of transfer to either the taxi or the shuttle at the two main stations in HK or Kowloon. Complimentary porter services were offered without asking for loading luggages into the cab for the final connection to the hotel.

The hotel is atop the Admiralty Metro station and a top scale Pacific Place Mall. We found it very convenient to travel to almost anywhere. However there were days we took the taxi after spending the whole day shopping with a pair of tired feet. We walked a lot when using the metro which became our daily exercise program to offset the calories from the great food we consumed. We purchased a prepaid Octopus card which is so advance that can be used for all transportations except taxis and convenience store purchases, and it can be done without even taking the card from the wallet with its radio wave features.

We did not eat at the hotel as there were so much variety everywhere. We used the lounge and the service was great. However, we noticed the view from the restaurant is so spectacular that eating there is almost an adventure by itself.

Internet service is $120 HKD per day with discounts for multi days.

JW Marriott Hong Kong earned its 5 stars.

The hotel was what you would expect for the price. Service was outstanding from the transport service at the airport to check in to any need that we had. The hotel was spotless. Service at the bar in the lobby was good, but not up to the level that we saw elsewhere. No complaints about the rooms at all...comfortable and clean. The remote control unit by the bed for the curtains was a nice touch as well.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel as part of a Conference. Location was convenient, right about train station and atached to a large, high end mall with a movie theater and restaurants. Friendly staff, large lobby, elevators worked efficiently, breakfast buffet was superb, and generally what I would expect from a J.W. Marriott. Paid about U.S. $400 per night, so perhaps not worth that much.

The actual hotel room had a fine view, however, it was smaller than I expected, and the old style television was stangely placed on the side of the room.

All in all, a fine experience and I recommend the hotel.

This hotel was one of the best I have stayed in. Starting with the design of the hotel itself, it is an amazing place and the location is fantastic, with the underground train directly beneath the hotel. The staff and check in area was fantastic, with always available and helpful staff. Before I go on about this fantastic hotel, there was one bad thing only. The price was a bit steep. But, some may say it was worth it. The room I had was fantastic. It had a great view over hong kong harbour and kowloon, and over the mountains. The executive lounge is great and has an even better view. Request a high floor room - its worth it. Overall, a very good hotel in a great spot for exploring hong kong, whether it be for business for pleasure.

I loved my stay at the J W Marriott! Hong kong people are so nice in general but the staff at this hotel was the best ever!

Everyone from the bellboy(so cute!) to the staff at the concierge desk was sooo helpful. The location is perfect(great mall right next door and the MTR as well). Cabs are readily available at the door at any time.

The view from my room was gorgeous and the room was spacious enough for three people to live in very comfortably.

I am comparing my stay here to my stay at the Peninsula in Bangkok which is so over rated and I think this hotel wins hands down. I am surprised it's not rated higher.

Have just got back from 6 nights at jw marriott hong kong with my wife. Much of what has been said previously is true about this hotel ie courteous staff etc. BUT there is renovation work going on currently. This means banging and drilling from 9.00 to 17.00 every day. This can be heard from most floors and rooms (talking to other guests). There was one day when the room toilets couldn't flush. You had to fill them yourself or call room service for it to be filled from your tap. When I phoned to complain I was advised that ' I had been in formed of the problems' - this took the form of a note left on your desk. If you are booked in this hotel check if there is any work going on and if so (don't believe it if you are told it is discrete) try to move to a different hotel. There are some good points about this hotel but the renovation works took the shine off these. The Conrad and Shangri La hotels nearby looked a better bet. without the building works. I would have rated this hotel 4 but I cannot believe a hotel would stay open with the noise produced at hence the 1 rating.

I have recently stayed in three of five Marriott properties in Hong Kong. The JW Marriott at Pacific Place, Admiralty district, is by far the most elegant. It is correspondingly expensive. It is best suited for the well-heeled buiness traveler, and its proximity to many of the financial service and banking institutions in Hong Kong make it ideal for this type of customer.

Staff are extraordinarily attentive, and a wide variety of top-notch cuisine is available in eight on-site restaurants. I suggest the Fish Bar for a casual, open-air dining experience near the pool, and check out the seafood buffet at lunch in the Cafe. The adjacent Pacific Place shopping center also has many nice dining and drinking options in addition to its luxury-brand shops.

Lovely Hong Kong Park is a five-minute walk, and the Admiralty MTR station at Pacific Place gives you easy access to most of the rest of the city.

The one downside I would point out is noise. The massive lobby is spacious, airy, and has magnificent viewing day or night, but it is open to several floors, including Q88 wine bar, the Lounge, and the Cafe. Thus, it is usually very noisy in these places. You'll have to go elsewhere for a quiet discussion or intimate meal. Also, as is almost universal in Hong Kong, construction of new apartments and another hotel are going on adjacent to the JW, and during the day, some associated noise is audible in the guest rooms.

An upper floor had been requested, but the desk clerk said it would be too noisy due to “renovation”, so we were assigned to a mid-level room. The “renovation” noise did start first thing in the morning and was heard in the room. Street noise reached the room. Pool noise was also easily heard in the room, even early morning and late evening. The door to the room seemed to be a sound amplification device rather than sound deadening, as all hallway conversation was easily heard, word for word. Having requested a quiet location, we were given a room between two families with children who perhaps were playing midnight soccer outside our door and needed to be heard at the other end of the playing field.

Upon arrival, a pot of tea and a fruit plate consisting of 2 apples, 2 oranges, and 1 banana were brought to the room. Considering it was about 10:30 p.m., it would have been nice if the tea had been an herbal type tea (no caffeine) such as hibiscus, mint or whatever.

The room was a small pentagon shaped room. The size was adequate for one person, a bit crowded for two. The view was of other buildings, the pretty hillside and the pool. The room was clean, but dated and in need of renovation to be a first class hotel. The TV was an ancient tube TV that maybe could be used to heat the room in the winter. There was no DVD/CD player. The rotary temperature control was difficult to read and not precise. Motorized drape and lighting controls were at bedside.

The bed was hard, even though some type of pad had been put on it. The linens, duvet and pillows were nice. The mini-bar refrigerator did not work – everything in it was warm – but they replaced it at our request. However, they put the warm beverages back in and it was a day before there was anything cool to drink.

There was complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water in the room. I didn’t try the coffee, but the tea was low quality. The evening turndown left an Andes mint.

The bathroom was very compact, but nice and equipped with everything necessary. There were separate tub and shower. There was a “volume” knob which didn’t work – probably was to pipe in the house music. The bathroom was equipped with a magnifying mirror, weighing scale, bathrobes, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel, bar soap, bath salts, mouthwash, sewing kit, nail file, cotton balls, etc. The hair dryer was decrepit – only 2 settings, very hot slow, and very hot fast – no cool settings, etc.

No writing stationery was provided. A few small envelopes (maybe 3”x5”) and 2 postcards were provided – one of a goldfish bowl, one of the hotel view from the pool. An umbrella was provided.

The hotel location is nice – connected to the Pacific Place Mall, the subway, and near the very pleasant Hong Kong Park.

I stayed here on business and was really just co-locating with my colleagues rather than making a conscious choice of hotel but I have to say that the level of service here is top notch.

I was in an executive rooms on floor 35, and I would say that the room size was a bit small for this class of Hotel. There was some construction work going on while I was there but it only really became noticeable at the weekend and I was heading out anyway.

The room was equipped with a service bell, which summons a room attendant - one of the most obliging chaps I have met.

Free WiFi is available in the public areas (and just about in the room that I had, though obviously not intended).

What really struck me was the attentiveness of the staff, they really seem to take a pride in serving their customers. The concierge staff are especially helpful and organised a tour for me at a reasonable price.

The location is good if you are working in the Central district. The hotel has direct access to the shopping mall in Pacific place which also houses a station for the mass transit system.

I feel that they charge a fairly full rate, (even corporate rates) but all things considered I would say that it represents value. I think they are concerned that guests enjoy their stay - different from so many other hotels who say this and then fail miserably to follow through.

This was my first visit to Hong Kong and the hotel experience was better than could be hoped for.

We were met at the HK airport by the hotel's representative (optional service). He assisted with the luggage and took us to the car which was a luxury vehicle with a professional driver. They both spoke English (as do many locals in HK). We had a pleasant trip to the hotel, approximately forty minutes. We had a welcome telephone call during the trip (from the hotel) asking if everything was ok and if we needed anything special at the hotel. Upon arrival we were met at the door by a host who took us immediately to our room which was a junior suite (we are Marriott rewards members which may determine the special attention). As others have noted, the rooms are "corner designed" and ours had a narrow view of the harbor. The sitting room and the bedroom were both well appointed and attractive. Yes, the bedroom was small as compared to US hotels but i thought that it was more than adequate. The bathroom was excellent with separate tub and shower. Everyone at this hotel greeted you and was pleasant. The service was excellent (i like to compare hotels against the Ritz Carlton level of service and this one was just as good)! Restaurant choices were excellent (as we had been travelling in China for a month it was welcome to be able to order American style food). Room service was excellent with timely delivery and no surprises. When i ordered they even asked about condiments and extras that i might want. Security was very good on the property. We had access to the concierge level which i highly recommend. Food and drink service is as good as it gets and the concierege is very proficient. The location on HK island is good in that everything is close either by walking, taxi or the subway. We tried the subway upon the recommendation of staff and it was very clean, efficient and time saving (car traffic can be slow). Another positive about this property is that is sits above an expansive, primarily upscale mall which also has many restaurants and even a movie theater. I have stayed at many hotels within the US and abroad and i would strongly recommend this property for business or vacation travel.

Location is the major plus point for this hotel. This would have been my second time staying at the marriot. The bed was plush and comfy, no complains there.

However, the turn down service only rang the doorbell at 10 plus pm and did such a sloppy job in turning down the bed. This was the norm for the 4 nights that I was there.

Other than finding the room a tad bit dim, love the fact that the curtains can be drawn via a button on the bed panel. No other major complains

We stayed in the hotel for three days with our child. We find the twin bed room is convenient for family since the beds have a considerate size. The hotel has superb location and this provides easy access to anywhere, like Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and the Ocean Park. The transportation is rather convenient. Take a metro to the Admiralty Subway Station, and then you can arrive at the Pacific Place and the hotel.

We stayed at the Marriott twice during our recent trip to Hong Kong and China. Everything about the hotel is very good: the service is efficient, the atmosphere welcoming, the food is delicious, and the location is most convenient.. I would highly recommend paying extra for use of the Excecutive lounge and take a bathing suit to have a swim in the outdoor pool. We also used the gym - which is well equipped.

For shopaholic, there's big mall beneath; for eat lovers, the hotel has gd food & beverage; for tourist, the MTR is downstairs; for businessman, it locates in the heart of business district.

It's my second stay for a weekend getaway. I like the bedroom for its two big celing-to-ground windows which offer a wide view of the city and sufficient sunlight to the room. Beds & pillows are of high quality. I like the nice little touches (no gd to be disclosed) of the hotel and staff of different levels are polite. It keeps reminding me of the quality of a 5-star hotel by conduct.

I cannot say some areas in the hotel and room looks very new, like the lobby and washroom, but there is no doubt they are clean & tidy. It is also surrounded by skycrappers while limited seaview is available in my room.

In fact, the advantages mentioned in the 1st paragraph are shared by what I regard the "3 little dragons" in the area: Marriot, The Island Shangrila & Conrad. I stayed in the Island Shangrila once and it makes me "wow". Having said that, after this second visit in the Marriot, I would call it "home"!

Stayed at JW this past Chinese New Year. This is indeed one of the luxury properties in its market, though not necessarily world renown.

I was able to obtain this property through PriceLine, and I probably got it 30% off as a result of that. On top of that, they kinda liked me, so they upgraded me to sea view for free.

The hotel is really nice, and the people are sweet indeed. Property sits on top of the subway station, and it has cabs in front of the door. Airport bus is only a reservation away at HKD150. (At HKD300, 2 people will probably like the cab ride to the airport better, and for 3 persons it is actually cheaper). The concierge is very helpful, and is only an internet screen away from any address, phone number.

They have one buffet or another going all day long, from 6AM to 10 PM. The dinner buffet at HKD600+ is particularly impressive, given that it has lobsters/sushi included in that. Wine list seemed very reasonable, and agreeable. The much hyped about café Too buffet at the Shangri-La is a particularly poor choice, and pricey at HKD400+. (On the other hand their Petrus restaurant is a nice French choice, but the wine list is a bit over priced).

Rooms are indeed a bit on the small size, but who cares (not as if you gonna roller skate around the King bed). The king bed sits nicely there in front of the panoramic window, with desk and TV on the side. There is enough marble in the bath to make it agreeable to most.

I mean the hotel can be had for under USD300/night, and at that price you are not going to get a helipad on top of the roof.

I had a chance to stay six nights at the JW Marriott on a business trip. I brought my wife along. It was very luxurious. The room was somewhat smaller, but apparently standard for a Hong Kong hotel. The view was nice and the location is very central with easy access to the MTR. My wife used their spa and enjoyed it very much. The most memorable thing for me was the breakfast buffet each morning at the Marriott Cafe. We opted to include it as a daily option when we booked. A bit more expensive, but it was worth it.

Having stayed at the JW marriot for 6 nights mid February 2008 I have to give it a glorious review. The rooms were spacious, with amaizng large glass window panels surrounding more than 1/2 the room. The beds were great nice and mid/firm and the bathrooms had ample room.

The hotel is VERY clean and made us feel Most comfortable and welcomed.

The Hotel has a great business lounge on the 33rd floor that if you can gain access to this concierge lounge the perks are fun and great. We enjoyed free breakfast, lunchs, snacks and dinners items and late night snacks when we were able to be at the hotel to enjoy these ammenities.

The hotel sits n a complex of 3 hotels and underneath sits an expansive mall worth going to.

If you get an oportunity to go to nicholines at the conrad hotel, this italina restaurant is quite good. The mushroom lasagna is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

The lower level supermarket of this mall is outstanding.

Grappa's Italian restaurant at this mall is OUTSTANDING- Go with the star items that are the restaurant specialities they are truly delicious.

Stanley market and Victori peak are a MUST. Skip the night market as Sanley has the same in a better environment and the scenic cab ride there are GREAT.

Arigatos Restaurant and bar arigatoshk.com is just the MOST FANTASTIC SUSHI and much much more greta for vegatarians with bean curd meats and chicken that were SPECTACULAR and if I didnt know any better would think they were real chicken and meat. The Salmon Sashimi was as soft as butter.

Enjoy this centrally located hotel.

I will be back to HK with the wife next time as this was a business trip.

ENJOY

Stayed at hotel after a couple of days at Hong Kong Disneyland as part of half term holiday. As a platinum marriott rewards card holder, upgraded to executive club room on 33 floor which was paid for with points. Rooms are on the small side, but otherwise very clean. Housekeeping is to a high standard. However, the rooms do not have the Marriott Revive mattresses, but use the Marriott bed linen. The beds were very hard and not a very comfortable sleep and it didn't get better after 5 nights.

Great location for getting to the MTR which is fast clean and very reasonably priced.

Swimming pool was tested by my son, who found it very plesant and very quiet.

Club lounge had great views, with several food presentations per day. In the evening they would often put on special drinks evenings. Afternoon tea was a particular treat each afternoon.

The staff were very pleasent and very helpful.

Pacific Place is a very high end shopping centre, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton with eye watering prices. Recommend the Thai Basil restaurant, excellent food and service. Avoid Zen's very expensive and poor food and service. Great take away salads from the Great Food Hall. If you have the time, do cross the border to Shenzhen. Very different feel to Hong Kong which needs to be experienced.

It had been a few years since I stayed at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong. The office had moved back into that part of town and returning to the hotel was a real pleasure.

The rooms are JW Marriott global standard - very comfortable and in excellent condition. The staff were attentive and most helpful.Nothing was ever a problem. Dinner suggestions were first class. Small errands were handled promptly. The food in the hotel was excellent and good value. The breakfast buffet could keep you going all day.

Being located on top off a major shopping centre that stays open til 10pm and MTR railroad station was a real plus. So too was the fact that you can walk to most appointments on covered walkways out of the traffic and the rain.

A few days after New Year I stayed in the Marriott.

The Hotel was very calm and availability of the staff helped to give an overall very good opinion of the stay. Very smiling and helpful, excellent level of English.

The Hotel itself is still very new or at least recently renovated.

Rooms aren't spacious (it is Hong Kong after all) but beautifully furnished. Facilities are of a high class standard, not a single issue with services or anything else.

Location is almost perfect for short stay, withing 2/3 MRT station from all interesting shopping/eating places and the station is just under the Hotel, inside a very beautiful Mall.

The Hotel is not in the HK Island so if you go there to work, consider a 30mn taxi ride and ask the driver driver to take the New Tunnel, it will cost you a few more dollars but save 1h...

To go to the Airport from this Hotel is quite easy also, I suggest the transfer to the Airport Express station, 1h max, very easy.

An overall very pleasant experience in HK.

This City has improved a lot these past years to re attract Tourists and business Travellers, as well as expats that slowly disappeared since the 1997 Chinese "handover".

Staying here for a three night stay over Lunar New Year. Staff could not be more helpful. Booked hotel's Mercedes Limo service from airport. Really good driver and felt very safe and comfortable. We were staying on Marriott Rewards, but had booked an upgrade to the Executive level. Initially we were offered rooms on 21st floor (not standard executive level). I asked them to look again and they quickly came up with rooms on the 34th floor, right next to the Executive Lounge and the lifts. No problems - no noise at all and very convenient, with great harbour view. We watched the Victoria Harbour New Year's fireworks from one of our rooms and had a fabulous view of this 20 minute extravaganza.

The room itself was excellent - not at all sure why some people criticise the room sizes. We felt that our room - with a really comfortable king-sized bed - was more than big enough. The bathroom and toiletries were up to normal JW Marriott standards. Excellent chambermaid and turn-down service.

The Exec Lounge is very comfortable, and is spread over two levels (34th and 33rd floors). The Exec Lounge staff - as everywhere - treat civilised, polite guests extremely well. The rude and obnoxious guests also get good service even when it isn't deserved!

We had breakfast (you can make a special request for scrambled eggs), afternoon tea, evening appetisers and lots of alcohol (wine, beers and spirits), as well as late evening chocolates at various times in the Exec Lounge. The only meal we had to buy each day was a small lunch, apart from any special evening meals.

The hotel concierge was excellent. They obtained New Year Evening Parade tickets (special seating) in advance from my email request, and these were ready and waiting on our arrival.

The location is really convenient. You can get a short HK$16 taxi ride to/from the Star Ferry terminal at Central. You can easily walk from the JW Marriott LG level through to Admiralty MTR station, so getting about is really easy.

Of the JW Marriott hotels that we've stayed at, we'd now rank this one 3rd. This is no disgrace as our first ranked is the JW Marriott Phuket - one of the world's finest resorts, followed by the JW Marriott in Bangkok. We'd certainly rate the JW in Hong Kong ahead of any JW Marriott in the USA! e.g Santa Monica, Desert Springs).

What the Hong Kong JW Marriott does supremely well is to blend superb service with a more casual friendliness that is actually genuine - as opposed to the corporate "fixed smile" service that is overly formal at some other 5-star hotels in Hong Kong.

We stayed for one week to visit family and friends. With the plane arrival at 11pm, we opted for an airport transfer through hotel concierge. It was well worth the money. With two young sleepy children in our arms, we were greeted and driven to the hotel, then straight up to our room bypassing the check-in desk. It was a simple matter of getting our credit card number and signature before we turned out the lights. Breakfast at the hotel proved to be a bit of an ordeal with the kids running around, so subsequent mornings we just popped down to Pacific Place for breakfast. We needed an extra bathtowel one day and the response to the housekeeping call was within minutes.

I think the hotel is for people who already know the excellent HK transport system well. Admiralty is the central station of HK where the underground trains, bus and taxis meet but you are not really within walking distance of any of the tourist attractions.

Loved the hotel. I stayed there using my Marriott points so I can't comment much on the price. But the rooms were superb-- I even had goldfish in my suite. With status, they delivered free fruit and jasmine tea at checkin. They also give you a bottle or two of free water. All the staff was very nice. The location is amazing-- actually adjacent to wonderful (very pricey) mall where you can grab a bite to eat and wander. It is also right above the train station so you can get around the city soooo easily. From the airport, take the Airport Express train to Hong Kong, and then take the train to Admirality. (By the two different types of tickets at the airport). After you get off the train, follow the signs to the Pacific Place mall and you'll see the entrance to the hotel right inside the mall. An easy train commute if you don't have much luggage. Enjoy HK!

At check in we decided to upgrade to an executive floor room, for $800 HKD a night + 13% tax. Executive floor is normally 31-35 floor, but because of "some renovation" they had moved the floor to 20-22. Lounge still on 33-35.

Fair enough, was our first reaction, until we got to the room and discovered that it was a standard room. Small and awkwardly laid out to facilitate the "every room is a corner room" style. Meant the entry to the room was narrow and not ideal for luggage storage.

Bathroom was a decent size and well stocked. Necessary magnifying mirror was in place so this guest was happy.

Not so happy to be disturbed multiple times during the night due to a child screaming in the next room, that followed next morning with the commencement of "renovation" before 9am. Now we had accepted a lower floor room to avoid this noise but we still got it so a room change was required.

Eventually got a new room at 6pm. This was a harbour view room on the 15th floor. Room the same as before, view nothing to write home about.

Lounge was a decent size, low ceilings, overly bright (spoiling the wonderful harbour view from this height) and noisy. Some residents seemed never to leave and to almost hold court in the lounge which was intimidating.

Breakfast spread in the lounge was ok, afternoon tea was provided in the lounge (which we didn't take up), hors d'oeuvres also and cocktails as well as night time chocolates.

Must mention though that this was the first executive floor we'd stayed on where we did not have the option to have breakfast in the main dining room or the lounge. Would have liked to have had the option.

Lounge staff in the food area could be brusque but other lounge staff were wonderful.

Swimming pool was overlooked by the "Fish Bar" restaurant which meant that swimming and sunbathing area was not private. This was most obvious when a wedding reception was held in the Fish bar with some of the wedding guests animatedly watching the sunbathing hotel guests.

Some of the hotel facilities, sauna etc were closed for the renovations, which when coupled with the noise, means that this hotel does not merit a 5* rating at this time.

Location is excellent, proximity to MTR etc very convenient. was our room worth an extra $800 HKD a night? No.

Marriott Hotel is located in the center of HK Island and adjacent to Pacific Place Shopping Mall. I could not have picked a better location. The MTR, bus station are at a stone? throw and Wanchai is within walking distance. Check in was easy and friendly. Hotel staffs are courteous and helpful. Everyone speaks fluent English. The room we shared was very clean and tidy. The mattress is soft and the sheets were always smooth. And the flat screen TV set looked great. The breakfasts served were variety in selection. All in all, it? an enjoyable stay in Marriott. I?l choose this hotel again with no doubt. Your service was great. There? no complaint about the booking. I?l put your website in my favorite site.

Marriott Hotel, along with Conrad Hotel and the Shangri La, are located in the heart of Hong Kong Island and linked to the Pacific Place Shopping Mall at the basement level in Admiralty district. I could not have picked a better location. The Airport Express shuttle dropped me right at Marriott's doorsteps and I had the choice of all public transport options - taxis readily available at the driveway of the hotel, the tram and the public bus stop at the doorstep of Pacific Mall and less than 10 minutes' walk via an underpass to the Admiralty MTR Station. The financial district is only one station away on the west bound train while the Causeway Bay shopping district is only two stations away on the east bound train. Had the weather been cooler, I would even stroll to the Peak Tram Station on Garden Road. Also within walking distrance is Wanchai, with its budget eateries, street markets and bars.

Checking in was a breeze and the Filipino staff at the front desk spoke fluent English. The bellhop escorted me to my room along with my lugguage. The bed was firm and comfortable. However, it was less than three feet from the foot of my bed to the glass windows, from which I had could see the neighbouring high rise buildings and a partial view of the harbour. I had to keep the curtains drawn back whenever I was in the room to avoid a feeling of claustrophobia but then I guess this is Hong Kong.

The room attendant was meticulous at his job. The room was free of dust and the sheets were always smooth. A nice touch was the fruit platter comprising an apple, an orange, a yellow pear and a Del Monte banana. Fruits and toiletries were replenished daily. That is the Marriott standard for you.

Breakfast was not included but I thought that the hotel could at least throw in a welcome drink. There is a decent Cantonese restaurant in the hotel but a better option would be the Chinese restaurant next to the hotel's basement exit to the Pacific Mall. Here, a dim sum lunch for two with dessert and free flow of Chinese Tea costs less than HKD300. In Pacific Mall, you will find Pacific Coffee (Hong Kong's homegrown answer to Starbucks), and a large Marks & Spencer store for you to stock up on snacks and toiletries.

Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. I would definitely pick the Marriott again, primarily for the accessible location. Its neighbour, Conrad Hotel, also in the same price point, should be worth checking out too.
