On arrival at the airport you may be tempted to head for the subway or get a cab. You can, but for $49 HKD you can simply get bus A10 and stop number 4 will drop you off right outside this hotel.

On arrival, first impressions were great, very smart hotel, concierge professional and friendly and my bag was taken to my room for me. Check in was fast and friendly.

Rooms in Hong Kong are apparently quite small so bear this in mind if you read reviews that say small rooms... they all are! There was only me in the room and I had plenty of room, for 2 it should be no issue either, and how much time are you going to spend in the room anyway? Both room and bathroom were exceptionally clean, cleaner than where I stayed in New York, and the room was made up very nicely each day. Cleaning staff do not speak English, but reception and concierge do. Only down point was the air-conditioning fan in the room was a little noisy but in Feb it wasn't too hot to sleep with it off.

I only ate breakfast in the 'IP Cafe,' the bar/restaurant of the hotel, and the breakfast was good. A buffet with a large choice, cereal, fruit, cooked breakfast with beans and sausage etc. Again, wiped the floor with the buffet breakfast I had in New York.

I stayed on the 20th floor and the corridors and room were very quiet, barely any noise from outside. I guess the only slight downside of the hotel is the location (and the only reason not to get 5 stars I might add) although it's not terrible. I walked wherever I was going all the time, it's maybe 10-15 minutes at a good speed walk to the first MTR (underground). Allow maybe 20-30 minutes walk to the Star Ferry terminal. That said, I think only walking the streets can you really get a feel for a place...

The hotel charges for internet use, but much cheaper is the Sai Wan Internet cafe, about a 10 minute walk West along Des Vouex Road West. Very cheap and the people are friendly, you'll need some sort of ID the first time you go. I had absolutely no problems with this hotel and personally would happily stay there again. The ONLY issue is the location, if you're happy with that, you'll not be disappointed.

I'm afraid I didn't try the pool or gym so cannot comment on those facilities.

Some Hong Kong tips:

The MTR underground is AWESOME. As a Brit I was very impressed, fast, cheap, not over-crowded even at busy times and a rush of cold air along the train which will certainly help when it's really warm. It's easy to use, I didn't bother with any special tickets, just bought one way tickets. It's so cheap anyway. Be aware there are multiple entrances/exits for each station. They are signposted but make sure you know where you'll be exiting the station otherwise you may get confused!

The Peak is worth a visit for the view, Mong Kok on Kowloon is great for shopping. SHOP AROUND and haggle! When you walk in, it seems like prices are fixed but trust me they are not! I got a 4GB SD card for my camera for £6.60... and if they won't budge SHOP AROUND! There are a million places to get the same item.

Don't be intimidated by the hawkers trying to get you to buy a suit, they are persistent (very) but are generally friendly and assertiveness works well.

The Avenue of Stars (near the Kowloon Star Ferry terminal) is a great place for pictures. Street performers found occasionally on weekend evenings.

Macau is an hour's ferry trip away (take your passport!!) and was a half day well spent.

Also, Lamma Island, 40 minute ferry trip away was fantastic. You can get there from pier 4. No cars, just isolated walking country, awesome to get away from it all. Don't be afraid to go off the beaten track; I did for 3 hours I saw nobody but a handful of locals who will give you a cheery wave, and I still found my way back even without a map. The South part of Lamma Island was certainly quieter than the North. It's very hilly however so if you're not fit, don't expect to get much of the Island seen. Despite over-fishing in the area, sea food restaurants are found along a strip where the ferry terminal is and you pay your return ferry fare on arrival back at Honk Kong Island so have money ready...

Awesome city, great hotel. Go for it...

Overall the stay was a bit above average. I booked for a queen size bed through the website but when I arrived I was given a room with two twin beds. The front desk clerk said they don't have anymore queen size bed rooms left until 4 days later. When a room with queen size bed came up the front desk clerk called me about the news so I gathered my belonging and made the switch to a harbour view queen size room.

MTR is not close to hotel. The nearest MTR station is Sheung Wan and it's about a 10 - 12 mins walk. However, the hotel is close to bus stop and tram. Bus stop and tram stop is about couple minutes walk. On a cool day you can easily walk to Central in 15-20 mins.

Hotel is close to dried seafood stores so if you're not used to smelling dried seafood this could be a stench you might not enjoy. It's not that horrible as some reviewers in this site said to be.

The staff in the hotel is nice and courteous. The hotel also have a courtesy shuttle that takes you to Hong Kong Station to take the Airport Express train. On the day I left HK I thought my luggages were already on the shuttle but when we arrived at Hong Kong Station the driver said he didn't load my luggages in the shuttle so he drove me back to the hotel to pick up my luggages. There was no complaint from the driver to drive me back and forth.

My only complaint about this hotel is that the water in the bath tub does not drain as fast as it should.

If I go to Hong Kong again I would definitely consider this hotel and the price is within my budge. Recommended to others.

We have lived in Shenzhen for 4 months and travel over to Hong Kong regularly for weekend mini breaks. We have stayed in a number of hotels in different areas of Hong Kong and this one tops it. If you want good value this one can not be beaten. The staff are very helpful and the hotel is very clean and modern. The outside does not do it justice. For £49 per night we got a standard room which was upgraded to a harbour view for free. The windows are floor to ceiling and gave a cracking panoramic view. The room size is fair with a very comfy bed. The bathroom is adequate with a very powerful shower over the bath.

The location is slightly out of the main hustle of central Hong Kong, but close enough to either get the tram, metro or cab. We walked into town one morning which took about 20 mins.

We will most definitely be staying here again.

The hotel is quite a good value for money. It may not be located in the most central part of Hong Kong Island, but if you fancy a decent hotel at a reasonable rate, this hotel is for you.

My room was fairly small, but reasonably quiet and was clean. Staff were pleasant and accommodating.

It is located in a dried seafood area, which can be very overpowering and at times unpleasant. It does take a while to get used to the smell when you leave the building.

We booked this hotel ourselves on the internet for € 50,00 and were surprised about the location and standard of the room. Luxureous lobby, big room, marble bathroom with bathtub, great view over the harbour with an awesome sunrise. Easy to reach with the HongKong tram. Good price. People at the reception could be a bit more friendly, but the rest made up for that! We went out for diner and breakfast, so no review about the food.

The hotel was running a promo so we enjoyed a good rate of about HKD900 with free upgrade, free daily breakfast and free daily consumption of the mini-bar. (Pringles chip, cup noodle, nuts, beers, Evian & soft drinks)

Location wise - Pretty accessible to most places but we normally took the taxi around HK area. ie. From Hotel location of Sheung Wan to Central/Causewaybay....On returning, we would take train to Sheung Wan then cab back. (Within HKD20)

Staff - Most of the staff are pleasant and helpful and full of smiles. They were not only polite but also offered assistance whenever possible. Rooms were tidied and bedsheets were changed daily. Excellent.

Room size - Stayed on the 18th floor. Comparing against common hotels in HK, the room size was comfortable. There is a bath tub too. TV channels were okay - CNA, CNN, BBC, Discovery and some chinese channels. About 20 or so to choose from. There's also a IPOD dock radio in the room.

Hotel breakfast - A load of spread offered but they werent actually to my liking. I prefer noodles! However, my parents enjoyed it. Cornflakes, Salads, Porridge, Juices, Eggs, Sausages, Pancakes, Buns, Bacon, Ham,...

Eateries - Many good eateries in Sheung Wan & Central area so no worries on food.

Overall, the place was good. Worth the monies spent.

A good deal if you don't mind the smell and the distance from the subway station.

The hotel is located a little farther from the busy touristy area of town and in fact is where all the best dried seafood and dried herbal medicine are sold. There was a shop that was auctioning off boxes of dried salted fish.

It is also a good 15 min walk to the subway station.

Other then these 2 points, it is a great hotel. And by using the tram you can mitigate the inconvenience of the subway station distance.

The service is good, and the room is a fair size in Asian standard. The hotel is located on the tram line. It is the cheapest form of transportation in HK. For 2$ HK, you can travel from one end to the other. Most of your shopping/site seeing (other than Kowloon, the Peak, Ocean Park, Stanley Market) can be accessed by the tram. It is a bit slower. It'll take about 35 min to get to the other side (Sogo in Causeway Bay).

Hong Kong is very small. It is a short walk from the ferry to the tram line. You can get to Kowloon for 2.6$HK from the ferries.

The hotel provides a shuttle to the IFC Mall where the HK Express Station and subway station is also located.

When you arrive in HK, you should take the HK Express Train to this station. It is 24 min and you can pay when you leave the train, so don't line up at the airport side. Then take a taxi to the hotel. It is about 35$HK. When you leave, you can take the hotel shuttle back to this station. You can also check-in a day in advance at the HK Express Station for some airlines so you don't have to lug your luggage to the check out counter at the airport.

The hotel itself was really not bad, the staff was professional, housekeeping was good, they say hello and smile. The room was very clean, water pressure good. We stayed in a harborview room. The room size is not big, but not closet size, big enough to put our suitcases and move around. Had buffet breakfast in the hotel resturant once, for $140HKD, it wasn't very good. Every once in while , we could smell the dry fish smell in the lobby, but never in our room.

For the location, I can see that being a problem for tourists. it might be cute for a few days being in a "local" area, you might get tired of the lack of Starbucks, the not too clean looking eateries...etc. It 's just not a very exciting area after a while. We lived in HK before, and I still have freinds living in Kennedy Town and up at HKU area. we know how to get around the area, actually almost every bus that goes to Central and Causeway Bay passes by the hotel, And 104 goes to MongKok. it's not hard to get around, but it's a long walk (15-20 min) to the closest subway station.

I would probably try another hotel next time, simply because even for me, after a few days I wish I were staying some place else where I could just walk back to my hotel after dinner or a long day out.

When I arrived at the hotel i was a bit disappointed by the outside, the concierge staff are very polite and were helpful throughout my stay whenever I had any questions and would always tell me both the cheapest and most convenient way to get to where I wanted to go. The reception staff were very blunt and abrupt and nowhere near as helpful as the concierge.

My hotel room was small but very clean and had a wonderful view over the harbour. The bathroom was absolutely tiny.

I ate in the hotel but found that the food was nothing to rave about and quite expensive.

The pool is small and disappointing and if you like to sunbathe it is virtually entirely shaded unless you are actually in the pool.

The hotel is in the western district of central, but you can use the tram or bus which is very cheap and only a couple of minutes to the ferry and central district, I actually liked to walk and look at all the smelly shops! It only takes about 20 minutes to walk from the Star Ferry and you pass loads of shops where you can get plenty of drinks and stuff cheaper than the hotel!

The only thing really negative that I have to say is that the air con is really really noisy so I had to turn it off at night, luckily it was not particularly warm when I was there but I imagine if you were there when it was then it would be really annoying!

Other than that a very enjoyable stay and I would recommend it.

This hotel is to the west of central Hong Kong Island, but right on the tram line and there are frequent buses going almost past the front door. The trams are a little slower, but very easy to use (just pay $2 on the way off) and since the tram line is just a single line very easy to get your bearings on. A taxi from the hotel into the centre of the city is about $25 (under 2.50 GB Pounds). Don't let the fact the hotel isn't right in the centre put you off at all.

The area around it is known for its dried sea food. It is a little smelly when you walk past the shops, but then if that bothers you then stay in America or wherever. We've travelled a fair bit in Asia and think that apart from the traffic fumes sometimes, Hong Kong is a pretty clean city and the area around the hotel is no exception. Obviously, some people turn their noses up at some of the sights in Asia (well, anywhere outside the US) but again, they should stay at home. This is a pretty clean area.

One complaint we did have was that we were booked into a triple room, and they gave us a double with a third bed squeezed in up against the bedside table. We complained that it wasn't a triple room, and they moved us to an executive room on the top (29th) floor. This also was only really a double, but even with a third bed taking the place of the sofa was plenty big enough and we were satisfied with it. They also gave us a complementary breakfast each for our trouble. The normal rooms were smallish, but the executive room was fine, don't know what the price difference is. How long do you spend in the room anyway?

The hotel in general was fine. Clean, friendly, staff not too over the top in your face falling at your feet trying to help you (again, some people like that, we find it nauseating). Apart from the rooms not really being triples, we had no complaints at all and would recommend this hotel completely.

Oh, never went to the bar so didn't see most of the prices, but cans of coke were $36 compared to $5 in the shop next door, but that probably compares to other hotels around.

Our top tip for Hong Kong is to get an Octopus Card to pay on the transport, saves queuing or keeping change for the trams and buses. Can also use it in some shops and to buy beer at the races!

Yes this hotel is out of the way, but that worked for us, it was so great to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and Kowloon, and get back to an area that felt like that way it should be.

The hotel service was fanastic, we arrived at 10am, not expecting to be able to check in at that time, was told we could move into our room in one hour after it had been cleaned. We were also given a late check out free of charge till 4pm which helped with our midnight departure flight. We even were allowed to shower and change using the pool facilities before we left for the airport. The hotel staff couldn't do enough for us.

We caught the A11 bus using our Octopus card to/from the airport for HK$40, takes around 35-40 mins, which stops on Connaught Rd West, a short walk from the hotel. You can also catch the A10 or A12 for HK$48.

Local transport is cheap, and it is a 15-20 min walk to the Star Ferry pier. And yes the hotel is surrounded mainly by dried seafood markets, but we found a great cafe for breakfast called Cafe Helsinki on Connaught Rd West, a great hairdresser where I had my hair cut and coloured, an Indian Restaurant, cake shop. The area is full of great surprises, in fact it was the best part of the whole island.

I will not be returning to HK as a tourist, but if I had to consider a stopover in HK we would stay here again.

An average 3 stars hotel that match its rating.

When first arrived ,first impression was not that good on the hotel's surrounding .Did not feel like i am on holidays(old shophouses selling dried seafoods).Arrived 1 hr ahead of chk-in time ,i was told to come back an hr later as the room was not ready yet .Upon check-in i was given a room at 11th flr with a limited 30 degrees side view of victoria harbour and a TV betrofitted to cabinet which i need to turn my head 45 degrees to watch it as the bed was located parellal of the cabinet.(minor issue actually as not there to watch TV & seaview all day).

Throughout the 3 days of staying there, i found out that the transport network from point A to B was quite good dispite the hotel is located on the western end of hong kong island .There are plenty of options available from trams (hk $2 per trip), buses (hk $3.40), taxi (hk $20) and shuttle services (free) to shang wan MTR which is only 15 mins away from walking.

My personal opinion -This hotel will fit well for those on budget and on business trip but not for those for a relaxing holidays and honeymoon.

This large hotel is located just on the side of Victoria Harbor in the middle of dried seafood street. We got a great deal for a week stay on Expedia and we were really worried when the cab driver dropped us off because the area smells like the street name, but the hotel is very professional and classy. The room was small, but it had large window wall with a view of Victoria Harbor. The hotel staff spoke English and were very helpful. Everyplace you want to go is just a short tram-ride away, and each ride costs the equivalent of 20 cents. The tram-stop closest to the hotel is just around the corner. The trams have open windows, which lets the breeze come in on hot days, and they're an excellent way to tour the city. I would not recommend paying more money to stay closer to the city center. There are 2 24hr 7-eleven's within walking distance and a 24hr McD's. Plus, there are several local bakeries and noodle shops in the area. The hotel buffet was decent, but you will get a much better value outside. There is a shuttle-bus that takes you to the airport when you check out. I strongly recommend this hotel for the real Hong Kong experience.

This hotel is all-together okay. The rooms are simple and small yet clean and well kept. The staff is friendly; not all of them speak english but those who don't are quick to point out someone who does. The business center is tidy and very handy. The best thing about the hotel are the views. You'll have spactacular views of the harbor and Victoria's Peak if you're fortunate to stay in a room which faces these sites. However, the biggest drawback of the hotel is the location. It's located in a slum-like area which was a big shock to my senses having just arrived from the West. Outside, it smelled really bad - like something between seafood, ramen noodles and vomit. It's also a bit of a hike to the sites. I didn't stay long enough to figure out public transportation but the closest subway station was a decent walk away. If I had to do it all over, I would have stayed closer to central Hong Kong. Although the hotel was fine for my needs, it wasn't so great as to make up for its location.

We stayed here for two weeks and thought it was great. It was excellent value because it was a little out of the centre of town. However, with travel as cheap and convenient as it is in Hong Kong, this was no problem. Service was excellent at all times and staff couldn't do enough to help. The room was quite a good size compared with some I have stayed in before, particularly in London, and we had a corner room with two great views. As an extra bonus you get to stay in a more traditional area of the island and see a little of more old fashioned HK life. Some people have commented on the dried seafood shops there - and their smell. We didn't find that the shops smelt much (in spite of temperatures up to 34 degrees and over 90% humidity - phew!) and they were much more interesting than the plethora of department stores and chain stores in the centre. Our only criticism was that our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, even though we arrived mid afternoon from a long haul flight and were hot and exhausted. However, this did not mar the stay, and overall this was a great hotel serving good food and excellent value, particularly recommended if you are staying a little longer in HK.

The tramline goes right outside the hotel and across the whole of HK island very frequently, through Central, Wan Chai … for only HK$2 (13p). Get on at the back and go upstairs for a top view, then get off at the front when you want to and drop HK$2 in the box or scan your Octopus card (recommended). For cabs, pick up a hotel card from the shelf by the concierge to show taxi drivers when you want to get back to the hotel - most don't speak English. Taxis to Central cost around HK$25 (£1.75).

I had a really great experience at this hotel. The room and bathroom were both very clean and modern. The waitstaff and concierge were very helpful and spoke english very well. The view from our room of hong kong harbor was incredible from the 16th floor.

Two bad items about this hotel is that the business center is a bit expensive so find somewhere else to use the internet. The hotel is also about three blocks from the nearest subway station, making getting around difficult. There were a couple good pastry places up the road from this hotel, though, so we did have breakfast covered.

Apart from the location, everything else makes this a great hotel.

We have just spent 5 days staying in this hotel in Hong Kong. We booked it through a travel website and got a really great deal - about 45 euro a night.

Hotel is a 3* plus and it lives up to this. The facilities are nice and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations which made a bit of noise but didnt disturb us too much. I've rated the hotel as excellent which really reflects the price - excellent value for money (given the expensive price of hotels on Hong Kong island).

The hotel has a pool which is lovely - was a welcome retreat from the madness of Hong Kong!

The only thing Id really fault is the location. Although on Hong Kong island, the hotel is a good 10 to 15 minute walk from the Metro station, which is a bit annoying. However, taxis are cheap and easy enough to come by. I think the location is reflected in the price and it does offer exceptionally good value on Hong Kong island.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Avoid the hotel shuttle to the airport - get a taxi to Hong Kong station and take the Airport Express. Much quicker.

Booked through BA hotline travel cause i got a good rate!

I was hesitating about the area and the true is that is quite away of all the fun, bar, restaurants and shops!

Its in a local market area in western Hong Kong district....So location wise is not central at all...the only shops around it are local dry fish stores...so you get the strong fishy smell!

The hotel is modern and clean...no smells whatsover as soon as you enter...the staff are friendly and make you feel welcomed!

The only problem we had was sleeping on those really hard matresses so If you dont like hard matresses or have any back problem issues though DONT book it!

They tried to help us by making the beds more soft by adding extra matresses on top...didn't make a big difference...they even offered to upgrade us for free on an executive floor room.

I have to admit that they did whatever they could to assist...and they even let us keep the room and have a very late check out at 8pm for free.

The rooms are quite small but clean and most of them with harbour views. If you want views on a standard rate room ask for rooms on a higher floor ( 20th to the 25th and rooms for example 2001-2008) as they are at the front overlooking the harbour and the city!

We used taxis a lot to go everywhere as its quite cheap and outside was so hot and so humid...for example to go to Causeway Bay which is at the other side of Hong Hong and the furthest you will need to go ,where is a major shopping area we paid around 35 to 40 HK dollars and it only takes 10 minutes depending on the traffic.

The best way to go to the hotel from the airport is to take the Airport express train to Hong Kong, it takes 25 minutes and from Hong Kong station just get a tax,its less than 5-10min ride around 30 to 40 HK dollars including your luggage cost to the hotel!

For me the only negative was the location!!

So overall if you like downtown action in your feet dont book it!!

Nice, clean but small rooms. We stayed on the 18th floor and had an interesting view of the surrounding neighborhood. Hotel is modern with good, prompt service but its location near the fish markets makes for some nice smells. We found their free shuttle useful to get to other transit stations, so that was a nice amenity. Business centre is very nice and has good PCs for rent - another nice bonus. I'd stay there again.

Have just returned from a very enjoyable 5 night stay at Island Pacific Hotel with my Husband and two teenage children. Rooms good size with fantastic floor to ceiling views of the Harbour and Kowloon. Marble bathrooms and very clean and comfortable beds. Rooms have fridge, safe, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries and free morning paper. Free access to hotel outdoor pool and air conditioned gym. Staff very helpful and Free courtesy bus from hotel to various 'key' locations in Hong Kong a bonus! Hotel is walking distance of tram stop (located on Des Vouex Road West). Were given free welcome drink on arrival - nice touch. Were able to request a late check-out, at no additional charge, which is great when returning to the UK on a late evening flight! Would highly recommend this hotel.

We booked it through British Airways and paid £120 for a three night stay on our way home from a three week trip around Australia. Value for money wise its an excellent hotel. Our room had a harbour view and although it was a bit small we only slept in it because we spent all day out and about in the Olympic fever of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The rooms are clean, quiet and with daily maid service. What more do you want for 40 quid a night in downtown Hong Kong!!!

Buses and trams stop right outside although they do take a while to get through the Hong Kong traffic. The nearest subway stop is about 15 minutes walk away. We found it best to use taxis especially in the evenings when the roads are much quieter. Taxis to Central cost about £1.50 and Wanchai is about £2 and Causeway Bay is about £3. Kowloon is about £5.

Hong Kong is a fantastic place and the Island Pacific is not a bad place to see it from.

The first receptionist we met wasn't the nicest, but she did get some guy to deal with our booking and we got instantly upgraded!!! I loved the room! We had full length windows on 2 adjacent walls, 1 facing the water and 1 facing the surrounding apartments. The cleaning/maid service was really good. Very nice hotel, most workers were very nice as well! Area was good, at least for me, because got to experience everyday living. It was also close to 7-11, laundry services, and cheap food. Close to the tram as well, which is really cheap and close to buses. They also have a shuttle if you get there at certain times. Overall, I would definately stay here again. My only complaints are you have to pay for internet use and for instant noodles and other snacks (which were very overpriced, plus we had to pay for one we put back!). Also, the restaurant in the hotel closes to early! But these are minor complaints, they aren't enough to chase me away.

We stayed in a standard room for 3 nights. The room was very clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities common to a good hotel. The location was a tad far from the metro-- you had to take the tram for about 15 minutes to the nearest main station. This might be a little inconvenient for those who are not acquainted with the city. Since I had been to HK several times, this was not an issue. The mattress is a bit hard, but that's pretty common in Asian hotels. Nevertheless, I would stay again.

Stayed here the night before flying out, and the Views from the higher floor (23) was great. The room was absolutely tiny though. Harbour view room, with twin beds, and no room to swing a cat. Upon check in, the receptionist told me it would take 2 hours for my room to be ready, (it was after their specified check in time), and when i was less than pleased, this 2 hours became 15 minutes. So they were attentive to guest needs. As with another HK hotel, I found the beds to be far too hard to sleep on comfortably. But housekeeping were prompt when I requested an ironing board. Location is OK, a short tramride to central (or about a 20 min walk). The pool area was nice, and the gym useful. The hotel has a nice bar also. If you need an overnighter before a flight thats cheap and clean, then definately choose this place. But if you need to stay in HK for longer than 2 night stopover, I would choose somewhere closer to central, with a bit more space in the room (and more comfy beds!)

What a fantastic hotel! We stayed in Hong Kong for 3 weeks, one week on the Island, one week in Macau and one week in Kawloon and this was one of the best hotels!

The service we had was fantastic, the waiters and waitresses tried their utmost to look after us and that was the general feeling about the place. Even the concierge was friendly and couldnt do enough. I would highly reccomend this hotel and would say its one of the best i have been to.

We stayed one night in this hotel which we found excellent value for money. We booked through Asiatravel.com with a last minute deal it was $HK600 for the night. on arrival they did not have a standard room available so they upgraded us to an executive room on the harbourside. This I admit might colour my vision about our experience as the room was way above our expectation, large space, large firm bed ,large bathroom that was well fitted out and one of those showers to die for, you know the sort that propels you into the wall.

The staff were genuinely nice all from the guys on the entrance on ground floor (which does not give a good first impression) right through to the reception staff and the concierge, they must have all been sent to smile school.

Getting to the hotel was really easy. From the airport caught the MTR which took us to Hong Kong Central station (cost $HK180 about 35 minutes) from there we caught a red metred cab for $HK38 to the hotel close on five minutes. We could have waited for the shuttle bus from the hotel, or if we'd been real cheap skates taken the tram for $HK2. Its not advisable to do the latter as travelling on them with bags would be difficult getting on and off and its hot enough in them without having to labour with your luggage. You get in them from the back and exit the front paying the standard $HK2 for whatever the length of your trip. The location might not be to everyones taste as the retail in the area is firmly aimed at the local with dried fish parts seeming to be the only items for sale. Just up the road within 150 metres of the hotel is the Centre Street markets which are a typical Asian experience .ie very smelly and full of unusual items to eat. A real feast for the senses.

We stayed here for a further one night on our way back from europe this time stayig n one of the standard side rooms and found it was still excellent value for money.

we booked our stay through british airways and got it really cheap, was expecting a tiny room but it wasn't actually that small and had a great view over the harbour. the maid came every day and changed the towels, room was very clean, beds comfy, nothing to complain about.

it was a little bit further away from the nearest MTR station than would have been ideal, especially in the heat we had, but it's still only 15 minutes if you don't walk too fast. some of the reviews i read said the lobby smelled of fish, we didn't notice it in the hotel though, only on the street outside, but it wasn't terrible.

all the staff were very friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast was good too, loads to choose from. would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in hong kong on a budget and doesn't mind a little walk!

My boyfriend & I stayed at Island Pacific Hotel for 5 nights. Bear in mind to take down the chinese name of the hotel so as to show the taxi driver on arrival at Hong Kong Airport Express station. The chinese name is "太平洋酒店". My BF & I did not know the chinese name of the hotel and asked the Airport Express customer service counter staff for direction. He wrote the hotel name in chinese on a piece of paper but we were actually brought to a hotel in Wanchai (South Pacific Hotel). [To side track a bit, the hotel staff in South Pacific Hotel were REALLY NICE. Not only did they help us to get a taxi, they told the taxi driver our destination, wrote it in chinese for us and even carried our luggages onto the taxi! Impressive service!!]

Anyway we got to Island Pacific Hotel and checked in at about noon. The room is really clean and the view from the room was great. We requested for a room on the higher floor and was given one on the 25th! That's the highest for their standard room so it's really good. There's a hotel shuttle bus so we took it out, you can check for the timings at the concierge.

The hotel staff are really friendly and polite. They are really helpful as well! The hotel, although not strategically situated, it is just a very short tram ride from Central! Every morning, we will take either the tram or a cheap bus ride towards Central or to Sheung Wan MTR Station and start shopping away!

If you are on a budget, the hotel area offers great budget local breakfasts as well.

I gave the hotel an "above average" rating instead of excellence because of one incident. Unfortunately and fortunately, there was a thunderstorm one morning when we were in the hotel. Thank goodness we were in the hotel, the area around the hotel was flooded! I guess it's due to the lower ground the hotel was built on, we were actually unable to leave the hotel. It was 8am when we were awake. The water level was at knee level at 7am I heard? Then it subsided to ankle level at around 9am. We stayed indoor till noon. The hotel staff did all they could to stop the water from getting into the hotel lobby. There were sand bags, towels and blankets everywhere! And we were stuck as it was almost impossible for cars to get to the hotel entrance. I was just a little disappointed that they had cancelled the shuttle service for the day due to the flood. The tram service was down as well.

Other than this incident of the black thunderstorm & flood which caused the morning to be rather wasted, the hotel is a great place to stay in!

We arrived in a Thunderstorm amidst the worst rain on record for this area. Luckily the Taxi was able to pull into the area to the rear of the Hotel entrance to let us out. The Staff were very helpful and by the time we had checked in at reception, which was on the first floor, our bags were outside our rooms. A small problem with the keycards but that was soon sorted. The rooms, on the 8th floor, were a bit small for a 10 night stay but were clean and the bed was comfortable. The side harbour view was as expected albeit the continual downpour dimmed the views somewhat. The room was cleaned everyday and the sheets and towels were changed daily too. The Bathroom was tidied daily but was not mopped out daily as I would have liked.

It was good to have a mini bar fridge in the room, which I used to store water and stuff, which the hotel did not seem to mind.

The buffet breakfast was more than adequate with a wide choice of food. (HK$140)

There are 3 lifts that I knew about, only one of which went to the pool which was outside on rear of the hotel. Poolside loungers and mattresses were provided as you arrived, as were towels.

When we checked out we were able to leave our luggage with the bell hops and when ready to leave for the airport they were most helpful in hailing a cab for us and loading our luggage.

A terrific place: a real find. Rooms are bigger than average for HK and many have a fantastic view over the harbour. Once you've found it for the first time, it's easy to use the tram to and from anywhere central on the island side. Staff are really friendly and helpful, right from concierge, front desk and all areas.

The evening buffet can be a bit of a scrum but if you head downstairs to the bar, you can order a la carte and prices are still reasonable. There are a few places to eat nearby - cross the main road (mind the trams) and head uphill into the back streets. And if you're on a budget, you can't beat the rates here.

Booked the Island Pacific primarly for the price through BA (less than £300 for 7 nights). I had been concerned about the location of the hotel but was reassured by the reviews on Tripadvisor.

This hotel is definitely not in Central but you can walk (briskly) to the nearest MTR station, Sheung Wan, in about twelve minutes and the tram stop is just along from the hotel. There are plenty of inexpensive buses passing right outside the hotel going all over Hong Kong island: Central Ferry Piers, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Aberdeen and Stanley. Taxis are cheap - $30HK (£2) to Central and $20HK (£1.40) to Hollywood Road/ Soho area. So there is no real issue with accessibilty to or from this hotel's location.

Des Voeux Road West is the the Dried Fish Market area in HK. Whilst it did whiff, I did not find the smell to be overpowering or sickening. The surrounding area is a predominately Chinese neighbourhood so don't expect a Starbucks nearby! But there are a range of local Chinese restaurants, banks, 7-11s and supermarkets to hand.

The hotel itself was perfectly acceptable and good value for the price (NB would not pay the hotel's rack rate or even internet special rate for here). The reception, housekeeping and door staff were very helpful and friendly. My room was compact but not too small, clean and tidy though the decor was rather tired (superior room with partial harbour view). The bed was on the hard side but that is not usual for Asia.

All in all, I had a very enjoyable stay at the Island Pacific and would not hesitate to recommend to friends or family.

This is a standard 3 star hotel, nothing more and nothing less. The lobby is a nice average hotel lobby (if that's important to you) however the rooms are quite dated and very basic. If you are on a low budget and just need a place to stay for, this is a good choice. However the location is not ideal, as it is out of the city centre and no tube station is close. Therefore you either walk to the MTR (15 min walk) or you take the tram which is almost round the corner.

We booked a Deluxe Room for a slightly higher rate than a standard room. I am still trying to figure out what the "deluxe" actually was. We were promised a habour view room, which we indeed got however at the same time we had a view on the 6 lane motorway.

To cut a long story short, it is a clean very basic hotel, with friendly staff but with no thrills.

We stayed at Island Pacific for 3 nights. We found it by internet and it was an emergency option until our previous booked hotel had free rooms, but It was better than we expected and we stayed here all the nights we were going to be in Hong Kong. The staff is extremely considerate and helpful. The hotel is very clean and nice and view from the room is amazing!

We booked a standard room and we were upgraded to an executive room. The room was big, nice, comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night. Rooms have dark curtains to stop morning light, this is important because the window is really big. The bathroom is large and clean.

Although the hotel is a bit far of the center, you can find a free shuttle every each half an hour to a subway station, but the taxi is so cheap that we used the shuttle once. Moreover is close to Macau Ferry Habour, and this was great because we wanted to visit Macau too.

It has been very pleasant to enjoy the pool and there are several really good and cheap chinese restaurants close to the hotel. The hotel has it's own reataurant, but we didn't experience it.

My Wife and I stayed here for 3 nights before flying onto Australia and may I say this is a great hotel. We got a Taxi from the train terminal to the Island Pacific which cost about $20hkd. We pulled up, our door was opened, we were welcomed and our bags taken straight to the room. Check in was a breeze. Our room was on the 20th floor and was a good size with a good sized bathroom. We ordered room service on the first night which was very good.

We looked for ages to find a good value hotel in HK and found this via the BA website. The hotel is a bit away from the action of HK Island but there are so many buses, trams and taxis that if you didn't fancy the 10 min walk to the metro there are plenty of options. We managed to get a room upgrade to a great room on the 29th floor. Overall would stay here again, clean hotel and pleasant staff.

This is an excellent hotel, with a gym and pool on the roof. The gym isn't as good as that at the JEN hotel over the road, however.

It is very high standard, with lots of glass and escalators, and usually quite expensive. Do look out for offers though, I found a very good price thru Expedia, which was a limited offer.

It is west of the centre, just a tram ride to LKF and the MTR rail system.

Verdict: only book if you can find a good price, else better value can be found elsewhere.

The location may not seem good to some travellers but if you are street-smart and have a good travel map of Hong Kong with you, it's actually fine. Island Pacific is actually within a 10-min walk from Sheung Wan MTR station. From the MTR station, you are only 2 minutes away from the central business district, Central, and about 8 minutes away from the shopping district, Causeway Bay. If you know how to take the tram, that's even better. The tram charges a flat rate of HKD2 (approx. a quarter) no matter of the distance you travel. There is a tram stop about 100 metres from the entrance of the hotel. While the tram is slower than the MRT, you will still get to Central in approximately 10 minutes and Causeway Bay in approximately 20 minutes, depending on the time of the day.

The conceirge staff are extremely helpful and courteous. The supervisor is especially helpful - I was waiting impatiently for my airport coach to come by where he quickly helped to call up the company and enquire about the status of the coach which was already 20 minutes late. Front desk staff are also professional and amiable. I was given a free upgrade promptly when they had some problems with my Asia Miles mileage accrual (supposed to be able to accrue mileage by staying at this hotel but due to some miscommunications, they were unable to do so).

The business centre is managed by a staff during operating hours and she was very helpful and approachable. There were two computers with high-speed internet connection available and printing charges are low compared to other hotels of the same category. Light snacks and drinks are provided at the business centre too.

Rooms are clean and well-maintained. While the size of the room is not large (but this is across the board in Hong Kong where land prices are ridiculously high), it is well-decorated and furnished. Basically, the rooms are cosy and chic-looking. Internet connection is also available in every room.

The lobby lounge is very cosy and is a good place to have casual business discussion with your partners. As the hotel does not cater to a lot of tour groups, you can be assured that you won't be affected by noisy tour groups while you are having your business discussion at the lobby lounge.

Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hong Kong, whether you are a businessman or a leisure tourist. This is a modern hotel suitable for one and all.

I stayed in this hotel for a few nights and had a great stay. The location is central and it is clean. My only grouse though, it's a fair bit of a walk to the nearest MTR and there is no free wi-fi.

Ok so the Island Pacific is in Sheung Wan and approx 5 minutes by cab, 10 minutes on the trolley to Central. Sheng Wan is much more of a local suburb so you see less tourists, and more locals which is nice. Hotel is failry modern, maybe mid 90's, rooms are decent size and well maintained. Outlook is plesant, either back up to the 'midlevels' or a view of the harbour.

You can easily book this hotel for around $100 a nite, which is good value for HK.

We stayed at this hotel for nine nights whilst we visted Hong Kong. The hotel was booked through British Airways. The hotel offers good quality, clean, air conditioned accommodation at a very good price.

I read the other reviews before visiting the hotel.

The hotel is a short distance from the Central District on Hong Kong Island. It is surrounded by small shops selling dried fish for Chinese medicine and food. The MTR station is a 15 minute walk away, a 5-10 minute tram journey or a 5 minute cab journey. The walk is free the tram costs 2 HK$ and a cab costs 16 HK$. A cab rank is situated outside the front of the hotel.

The hotel has a good atmosphere and appears well looked after. Towels are changed daily if you want that and our bed was changed every two or three days

The hotel perhaps try too hard to disguise the smell in the entrance dried fish from the street is is not that bad and you quickly get use to it. The hotel is situated in an older more authentic part of Hong Kong. It was this that we particularly liked. the bigger hotels around the Central Hong Kong Island and on Kowloon lacked this.

The staff are friendly, helpful and approachable. It is a good idea to get a member of staff to write out the address of the hotel in Cantonese as cab drivers rarely understand English. They do understand `keep the change though!`

The only downside to the hotel is the cost of meals and drinks at the bar. The meals all appear to be buffet style and quite expensive for what they consist of. Dinner costs around 268HK$ We ate out during our visit. There are lots of places to eat, everything from McDonalds to local Chinese cafes and restaurant's offering cheap, hot, nutritious local food. The cost of two medium sized draught lagers at the hotel bar is around 92HK$. This is the standard price in bars and restaurants around Hong Kong.

There is a very wide selection of restaurants varying from the good valued to fine dining experiences at the top end.

A good hotel that I would be happy to recommend and use again ourselves.
