Went with this hotel based on reviews from other tripadvisor posters. It was pretty much what we expected. Reasonably clean rooms, ok service, not too much english channels, great view with the waterfront - great for romantics.

Good concierge service.

This hotel is in a good position but I agree with the previous reviewer in that there are too many large tour parties.

I thought that the food was not great and would advise eating out at night.

We were a small group of eight and the two couples who did not have upgraded rooms had bars on the window and the view of a high wall topped with broken glass. One couple paid to upgrade as their room was so depressing.

This place is basically a giant factory for tour groups going to the Li river. The hotel and the rooms are worn-- it is simply an average place. For the price is is acceptable but there are probably better options nearby if you're willing to pay more.

Pluses:

1) Excellent english for China both at checkin and in the hotel's restaurants.

2) Wifi in the lobby

This is a great place, and an excellent location. In the middle of town, you can walk to the lakes (don't forget to ask a room with lake view!). clean rooms and a friendly staff

This hotel has a beautifuyl view across the lakes, especially if you get a room on the top floor with a balcony. Unfortunately it felt a bit more like a Spanish Hacienda than a hotel in China, and I went there to experience Chinese culture, not European. Having said that the food was excellent, and the hotel very pleasant, but beginning to look a bit 'tired'. Also, make sure you take your own hair dryer, theirs was useless.

We were allocated this hotel by our Agent and she made the right choice. Our local guide said that this was her favourite hotel in Guilin and we could see why.

Located on one of the five inter-connecting lakes throughout Guilin City we had a fantastic morning walk watching the early Tai Chi and dancing rituals. The hotel boasts an outdoor swimming pool just outside the lobby area open until 10pm.

Room was comfortable although our view not great ( you need a front facing room to get a view of the lake). Breakfast wise the hotel had a full complement of Eastern and Western food. You cant want for more in terms of food. The main restaurant is very big which caters for big groups.

The Hotel also has two huge shops but the City Centre is but a 5-10 minute stroll around the lake away with the fine night market.

We only stayed here one night - but we really liked it. The hotel is in a great location next to the lakes and a short walk from the city center. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was tasty. I really hope to return to Guilin soon and I would definitely stay here again

I have just returned from Guilin, China after spending 4 days at the Guilin Bravo Hotel. The hotel's staff was very friendly and helpful. After traveling extensively in China, I can easily say the level of service is superior in this hotel compared with many others I have stayed at. The outdoor pool at the hotel looked nice, yet due to rain and limited time, we didn't have a swim unfortunately.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a deluxe lake-view room, which was very nicely decorated and very clean. The view across Rong Hu lake was nice, and the location to nearby Zhongshan Road meant it was easy to get around to other areas in central Guilin. If you decide to venture out and try some of the local restaurants, the hotel is only 5 minute's walk from a fantastic 'eat-street' offering many different Chinese cuisines. Just ask at the hotel reception and they can steer you in the right direction.

We also arranged a tour guide & driver through the hotel a couple of times. They were very friendly and helpful, ensuring our day-trips were well-organized and comfortable. Whilst I currently reside in China and am familiar with the varying standards of hotels here, I could definitely recommend this hotel to foreigners on a holiday trip to the south of China. Many staff spoke very good English and always willing to help us with any of our requests. Usually I'm not one for hotel lobby gift shops, but surprisingly, the largest of the 3 gift shops (right opposite the elevator) had some tasteful souvenirs, at fairly standard prices (and not inflated 500% over what you pay in the nearby night market).

I read many of the reviews on the hotels in Guilin and we chose this one based on the other reviews. We could not wait to check out of this hotel, our entire stay was horrible....the worst out of all our hotels in China. On our first night our room was very hot even though we had the a/c on the coldest settings. We called the front desk to have them come up and look at it.....they took the temp reading in the room and it was a muggy 78 degrees. They didn't really seem to care too much that we were uncomfortable, so we asked if we could have a fan and they asked why. Finally they gave us a fan which gave us some relief, but we tossed and turned all night because the beds were so uncomfortable. One night we ordered a burger from the restaurant and when it came, the bun was old and hard. The hotel charged 7% to cash travelers checks.....no other hotel in China charged us....travelers checks are the same as cash. Finally our last day came and we had to wait in the lobby for a while because we were not catching a train until 6pm that night. The lobby must have been about 80 degrees.....every person in there was hot and very uncomfortable....and the staff didn't seem to care at all. They closed the pool earlier that day due to rain, but would not re-open it even after the rain stopped and the sun came out. Finally after a few hours and complaining they opened the pool. Once we checked out, we called the manager to complain and he did not seem to care at all. One night we went over to the Sheraton to have dinner and we saw how nice it was and we regretted staying at the Bravo. The reviews for the Sheraton say it is still under construction, but when we went it was only on the outside and hardly noticeable. I wish we could have stayed there, it was a much nicer hotel.

A hotel which was beautifully sited with fab views at night. Staffwere generally very helpful however on arrival, very late one night, they had given our room to someone else. This was despite haviving booked and the hotel being aware of our arrival time. We ended up in a very sub standard room for the night although they did upgrade us for the second night. At the time of arrival we did not find the reception staff helpful or sypathetic to our plight.

About 10 minutes walk alongside a lovely picturesque lake from town centre, well run hotel at a fair price for accommodation but expensive for so called western food. Rooms not too good on sound insulation, and western restaurant expensive and not very good. Recommend try restaurants in town centre at about one fifth of price...try hotpot at about £4 per head including a couple of beers. Also book your airport taxi pick up for tourist trips...ours cost 120 yuan ( £8 !!!) for a full day around town, including evening drop off/pick up at recommended restaurants. Haggle on River Li cruise as well...they expect it.

Lovely hotel overlooking Banyan Lake and the city, can be quite noisy - my room overlooked the lake & the entrance to the hotel, even though I was on quite a high floor the road was fairly noisy which passes the hotel around the lake, lots of beeping etc.

Fab location, within walking distance to the main town and lots of other smaller shops nearby.

Great massage centre if you come out of the hotel & go over the bridge over the lake, turn right into a car park towards a big building, foot massage for 1 hr+ cost 100 yuan approx £7-8 and was fantastic, foot bath, massage, leg, thigh, shoulder, back and head massage too and was bliss.

Did the evening lake tour - good fun but all a bit 'Disney' really! Bright lights, barbie pink pagodas, replica bridges, opera etc. but still worth doing!

Li river cruise fantastic, amazing scenery.

Good location of hotel.

We stayed at the Guilin Bravo as part of a tour in Sept '07. It was unusually warm and the air conditioning in the entire hotel including the rooms were not adequate. The hotel was very nice and in a great location across the street from a series of lakes with a wonderful pedestrian walk. The hotel needs to work on that one problem otherwise it was a good experience...Joe A...Cape Cod Ma.

We chose to stay at the Guilin Bravo based on other Trip Advisor reviews. The reviews said that the breakfast buffet was the best in town. We found breakfast to be so-so compared to other hotels we stayed at in China.

The location was excellent - across the street from the river and wonderful strolling paths. A 10 minute walk took us to the heart of the city.

Rooms were large and comfortable. There is an outdoor pool but the weather did not make it inviting to us.

We booked through eLong and had a great off season rate.

The Bravo hotel is a busy tourist hotel with above average accomodations. I would rank it as a 3.5 to 4 star hotel. The rooms are clean and farily large. Breakfast buffet is better than most. Definitely not a 5-star resort, but better than most choices in Guilin

This was a conference hotel for me so there really was no choice. I was a bit apprehensive because of some bad reviews on this site. I was very pleasantly surprised.

A former Holiday Inn, this hotel is uniquely Chinese. For example, the hallway to the room was filled with little alcoves between each room and each alcove contained an interesting little sculpture highlighted by a spotlight. Contrast that with the usual dimly lit, boring, carpeted hall of most hotels and you'll see with this hotel stands out. The actual room was plenty big, seemed newly decorated, and had modern conveniences such as wired Internet, big flat-screen TV, a very upscale and Asian-style control console for the lights and AC, and a thoroughly modern bathroom. It was clean too, and stayed that way throughout my trip.

Food in the hotel varied. Some of it was truly excellent, easily some of the tastiest Chinese food I've eaten. Do not miss the spicy Guiin noodles, a local specialty. Some of the food, like the Hainan Chicken dish I had in the Patio restaurant and some of the steam-table conference food, was truly mediocre. Such is the way of all conference food. To my surprise, I really took to the Chinese-style breakfast when I tried it. The Patio restaurant also serves Western style breakfasts that are certainly on par with what you'd expect. Breakfast baked beans for Brits also available.

The hotel is located on a beautiful lake in the center of town. Walk around the lake early in the morning to see people practicing their Tai Chi, some with swords. Walk around it in the evening to see people walking their kids and lovers taking pictures of each other.

The hotel staff was always very pleasant and easy to work with. They didn't always understand my English and there was the occasional confusion, but their English was miles ahead of my Mandarin, so no complaints. I arranged a river trip through the hotel's booking office. It's an all-day trip, but it's the biggest tourist reason to be in Guilin (besides the noodles). Don't miss it!

Spent two nights here in early October. It has lovely walks around the lake. There is a little off licence/convenience store next to the hotel and also a shop selling cases for as little as 20 yuan. We had an English plug socket in the bedroom. No coffee was provided in the room, only teabags. Buffet breakfast was fine. We had two evening meals in the hotel as part of our package so I dont know what the prices were like. The bar was nice, with views of the swimming pool which looked very inviting but unfortunately time didn't permit. There was a nice shop in the lobby selling all sorts from souvenirs to beer and wine. I enjoyed my stay here.

Was really pleased with this hotel. It's located on Banyon Lake, so called for the 1000 year old Banyon tree that grows beside it and the walk around the lake is lovely during the day or night. There are plenty of shops and food places near by and a very good night market that opens from approx. 20:30 to midnight every night only about 10 mins walk away.

My room was a decent size with a balcony over looking the lake. The bed was huge and very comfortable and everything was lovely and clean.

They have an outdoor swimming pool which alas I was to busy to use although the weather was more than fine for it!

All of the food I had was very good. The breakfast selection was much smaller than in other hotels during my China trip. However, there was still plenty to ensure that you had a god fill before a days sightseeing.

Staff were courteous and I was really happy to have stayed there.

Very good choice.

We stayed at hotel bravo for 2 nights in August. We booked the room through Hoteltravel.co, which went okay. The hotel is a large hotel with a swimming pool, within a short walk to local shops etc. The room was clean and tidy but maybe needed a slight uplift. Staff on reception were friendly and we used the hotels laudry service which was quite good. Breakfast however i found to be quite expsensive, so we did not have breakfast and eat out. the hotel is used for large groups of tourist on organised trips, so at times the pool, reception etc were very busy!

overall not a bad stay as we were out for most of the day until late at night.

A nice hotel on the whole but clearly set for big groups of tourists and therefore very busy, a bit confused and with over busy staff.
The only hotel swimming pool in town added value.
Cinese and western breakfast were served in two different restaurants for very different prices. We tried the cinese buffet as we valued the western to be too expensive if realted to to other hotels in china but found it disappointing.
Dinner at western restaurant was fine: clean table linen and good service but average food. Chinese restaurant wes the opposite: medium cleanliness and poor ambiance but good food.
I was disappointed for I was changed muche more than in any other hotel in china for calling a toll free number from the room telephone.

stayed her for 2 nights - these were our thoughts

Location - perfect - a 5 minute walk round the beautifull lake into town - you couldnt wish for a better location.

Rooms - pretty basic but acceptable - however you MUST prebook a room at the front of the hotel with a view of the lake otherwise you will be stuck with a claustrophobic view of the grubby apartment block next to you with their washing hanging out of their widow inches from yours. Slippers provided & free in room movies.

Food - only had breakfast which was a very very basic buffet breakfast - waiting staff very pleasant

Dont be surprised to find a prostitute outside the hotel at the lakefront offering her services.

I would recommend this hotel based on its excellant location.

Large, average hotel located at a small lake in Guilin. The staff is friendly, and our room on the 4th floor was clean and of medium size.

This hotel is oriented exclusively towards foreign-operated package tour groups. As a result, the breakfast room is crowded and there are queues at the buffet. The breakfast is good, though, with both Western and Chinese food.

There are a Western-Asian and a Chinese restaurant. The latter is in a huge hall with dozens of large, round tables with a lazy susan in the middle of each table and seems to be visited mainly by tour groups. The Chinese food is good with lots of somewhat spicy and inexpensive Sichuan dishes. While we ate a la carte, there was also a dinner buffet for the tour groups (we were the only tourists travelling without a group).

I stayed in the Guilin Bravo Hotel for 4 days in March 2007. I had a Deluxe-Lakeview-Room with balcony.

The room was not big but adequately sized, clean, quiet, nicely furnished and decorated, and the view over Banyan Lake was very nice. The hotel staff, in particular the concierge, were friendly and very helpful, and communication skills in English are above average compared to other 4star hotels in China.

Free and reliable internet broadband connection.

I liked the location: Close enough (a 10 min walk along the lake) to the centre, but yet quiet.

Summarizing: Good hotel in good location, good value for money, and I would definitely go there again!

Hotel staff were friendly and spoke english. The room was adequate, but nothing out of the ordinary.

There were several options for watching movies in the room: HBO, Cinemax, in-house movie showings, and free in-room DVD rentals.

There were internet cafes about 5 or 10 minutes walk from the hotel which charged 2 RMB per hour. So, unless you just really don't want to leave the hotel, skip its business center with the 1RMB per minute internet charges.

The hotel restaurant somehow managed to make even a hamburger taste like Chinese food.

I was initially apprehensive about booking Guilin Bravo Hotel due to some bad reviews. However, I decided to give it a try and booked a lakeview deluxe room. The room was nice and clean. It came with a king sized bed and a big balcony facing the lake. I paid approx US$70 for the room without breakfast and thought that it was good value for money as the room and bathroom were both very clean and there was no bad smell as mentioned in earlier reviews. Do not however eat the breakfast in the hotel, the food is terrible and there are hoardes of tour groups eating there too. Walk 5 minutes of the hotel and you can get very nice, cheap food at the restaurants outside.

We stayed at the Guilin Bravo hotel while on tour throughout China. This was definitely one of the better hotels that we stayed at. Like previous reviewers stated, it received a 4 star rating in China, but is more comparable to a 2-3 star in North America ... similar to a Holiday Inn / Fairfield inn. We had a room with 2 double beds that faced the lake. No complaints about the room. Very clean and nicely appointed. Bathrooms were moderately sized and very clean as well. The location can't be beat. It is a must to take a post-dinner stroll by the river. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Acting on a review on this site (thanks) we requested a lake view room. This meant we had a lovely view of the lake and all the activity there. The room was fine - and we are quite fussy about rooms. Breakfast was fine - usual buffet style. The location is excellent as you can walk out at night onto the lake paths and into the markets - really nice atmosphere and very safe.

I totally agree with the previous review. We were also given a horrible room which stunk of cigarettes and damp. The staff claimed that the hotel was full and we couldnt be moved. They sprayed the room but that took away the stench for about 10 minutes. The linen was awful and the food dreadful even for Guilin standards. The river cruise is beautiful although the food on board is disgusting and Yangshao is hideous. Also, instead of stopping off at the beautiful rice fields on the way back, the guides insist on going to jade factories. The hotel is next to a lovely lake which is pleasant to walk round in the evening. There is often music and a fountain show which keeps you out of the hotel. The reed flute caves are cool, but get a taxi yourself rather than book a trip, only 15 RMB from hotel.

We booked the hotel specified as a room with double bed with water view. But at the time of check-in, we were told that they do not have double beds, their understanding of double bed is a bed large enough for a couple to sleep in - in our case they provided a king size bed. As we have a ten year old, it would be a problem. We called EXPEDIA, they called the hotel, the manager on duty insisted that they did nothing wrong and we had to take a third twin bed in a a 2 twin beds room with additional fee. We had to agree as it was late and we had nowhere else to go. Then we asked that it must be a non-smoking as our daughter is allegic to tobacco. However as soon as we opened the door we could smell something. So we checked with the room service staff at that floor and were told that this room can be used for non-smoking room because matches was taken away from this room and some spray was used to treat this room. We refused to move in and was transferred to another floor where a sign of non-smoking was displayed on the door of every room.

We booked Li River tour for the next day, a boat trip from Guilin to Yanshou and back to hotel by a bus. What it does not say tell everyone in the group is there are some sightseeing places in Yanshou and on the way back are not included the package. Our tour guide started asking us to visit these places with extra fees and they are quite expensive. I must mention that the bus took us back has such disgusting smell as if it was used to transport a thousand pairs of sneakers.

The only good thing about this hotel is the daily room cleaning is OK.

I will write review about this hotel at many web sites as possible as I want others learn from my experience.

The hotel looks nice. The rooms are comfortable and clean. But: there was only one chair in the room and two of us. We spent our "down time" in the lobby, which is not terrific. The hotel location is excellent and we had dinner in the hotel dining room one evening because we were absolutely frayed from an over long day of touring. The food was excellent and the price not really bad at all. The bar was pleasant too.

For the price, it's hard to complain. It's got a 4-star rating by the Chinese Tourism bureau. It's probably a 2-star by Western standards. The room was clean. Mini-bar was quite mini. Bathroom had the basics. It was a little musty smelling.

Our room faced the mountains and a whole lot of construction. I would ask for a lake-view room which would be a lot prettier.

Location is A+. Good area with bars and restaurants and it's right on the lake.

We only spent one night in Guilin but wish we'd spent another one or two. The town is quite lovely. Walk around the lake at night - gorgeous and romantic. Take the river cruise (4 hours). Don't drink the snake wine.

I stayed in Bravo hotel recently and found it excellent in all ways. Staff are attentive yet unobtrusive and helpful to the utmost degree, nothing is too much trouble. My room was on the top floor with stunning lake view, and was comfortable, spacious and faultlessly clean at all times, as are all public areas. Facilities are extensive, such as gym, pool, massage, beauty salon, business centre etc etc (however, sauna is men only strangely enough)

The Bravo is well located, in a quiet peaceful area thats a pleasant walk to city centre via beautiful waterside promenade. Cannot praise the staff enough, special mention to Della at front desk and to the management team for a thoroughly well run hotel.

(at end of December 2005 major renovation work was started, so worthwhile to check if its still ongoing for your intended stay)

The hotel has a breathtaking view of the lake. When we came, the very friendly and helpful staff assisted us to our room on the second floor. It was a newly renovated room, modern and fresh but unfortunately, there was a painting job being done on that area that's why we chose to stay on a higher floor. The room was quite small, but comfortable and clean. A bit basic and outdated. Bathroom was clean but nothing fancy.

Buffet breakfast is delicious. They have buffet chinese and western style breakfast. Selection is limited though.

The best part is the hotel's service. They have the best staff in all of china cities I've been to. They will not leave until everything is attended to. I could feel that they take pride in their work and are serious about pleasing their guests.

For the value, Guilin Bravo is the best. I will stay there again anytime : )

Very nice hotel located on the Banyan Lake promenade. Take a walk by day, at sunset, and

in the evening. It's absolutely beautiful! The nearby Glass Bridge and the Sun and Moon Pagodas are illuminated at night.

Guilin is one of my favorite cities, and the Bravo Hotel is my choice to stay. And, be sure to catch a performance at the Lijiang Theater. It's an artistic combination of minority folklore, song, dance, and acrobatics.
