Stayed on the Executive floor for four nights while attending the International Trade Fair. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was quite extensive and featured primarily Western and Japanese cuisine. English was not spoken by most of the staff, but just about everyone tried very hard.
The hotel is one block from the subway and two blocks from the Eastern train station, where the trains from Hong Kong arrive. Not much else going on in the neighborhood for the average visitor however.
The gym includes an elliptical trainer, a treadmill, a stair master and a bike. There are also a few free weights and one weight machine. The pool is small but looks nice for a quick dip.
I'm staying at the TianLun International Hotel in Guangzhou, China while I'm in the country for business meetings. Overall, I'd say that this is a pretty decent hotel to be staying at. The room and its appointments are aesthetically appealing (if you're into the minimalist/zen interiors), the lobby and the restaurant (Grand Cafe) are likewise appealing.
For the price we're paying (I get to enjoy a company discount), I'd say that this place is good. There are some things that I didn't enjoy while staying here, such as the difficulty I had in handling my airport-hotel transfer, the lack of english television programming, and the lack of choices for room service. That being said, I'd like to say that my stay here was pleasantly comfortable. The hotel has a nice view of a park. It's accessible from both a bus and train terminal. AND it's a few blocks away from IKEA!!!
The staple McDonald's, KFC, and Starbucks outlets are 5 minutes away from the hotel, plus it's pretty safe to walk in the streets, so if you're not that adventurous as far as dining choices go, then at least you won't starve while you're here. If not, you can always just go and have a buffet in one of the hotel's three restaurants.
For adoptive parents traveling to Guangzhou, this beautiful, modern, five-star hotel is located a few minutes walk from the relocated U.S. Consulate, with room rates comparable to the White Swan. The hotel staff, from the housekeepers and waiters to the manager, could not have been nicer, more welcoming and accommodating - and nearly everyone spoke English. The included breakfast buffet was unbelievable, from made to order omelets, waffles, oatmeal and other Western favorites to Asian faire, the variety was huge and the quality was excellent. The hotel was spotless and well maintained, and we had free high speed Internet connectivity in our room - a real plus when instant messaging or emailing photos back home. Located in a safe, diverse neighborhood, with attractions, restaurants, shopping, Shamian Island and the White Swan's waterfall and red sofa, all within easy access by taxi, modern city bus or subway train, or by foot. A huge park with topiary, waterfalls and fountains, directly across the street is a great escape from the oppressive heat and humidity - and a McDonalds is just beyond the park. Or visit the shady neighborhood just behind the hotel, with traditional Chinese architecture, fish ponds and shops along pedestrian streets, that provides a great opportunity to mix with locals. Whether in Guangzhou on business or to conclude an adoption journey in China, this hotel is definately a great place to stay. Be sure to check out my photos.
New, modern, very clean, well designed hotel. Requested NS King bed and was given one. This hotel is far superior to others I have stayed at in Guangzhou on previous visits (White Swan, China Hotel (Marriott) & Dong Fang). Will definately stay again on next trip to Guangzhou.
I don't like the Tianlun Wanyi for only one reason -- the non-smoking room still reeks of smoke smell. But then again, it's got to do with the inconsiderate guests who don't care less about the comfort of fellow guests.
But I do like the Tianlun for several reasons. First, its location next to the railway station, the main bus station and its proximity near most business addresses in Guangzhou. If you're there for business, you'll appreciate the Tianlun's location in the Tianhe business district.
Second, the relative newness of the hotel is also an attraction. In China, being new is important to a hotel, as standards drop after some years and even those run by reputable names may be less than pleasing to the eyes and other senses if the age of the property grows.
Third, I think the decor of the hotel is chic enough and the staff adequately trained. Ok, there is nothing to rave about them, I admit, but still, I like the front desk staff, the bellboys and the concierge. Perhaps because I speak their language, they are friendlier towards me. But I would want to believe they are like that to other guests too.
I didn't pay a very high price for this hotel. I recall in the environs of RMB 600-700/night which is damn low compared to the leg and arm I need to fork out in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The Tianlin is a good bet for a businessman who needs to stay in Guangzhou for a few days, but I'm not sure if it'll be convenient for those headed for the Fair, because it's relatively far away from the Fair venues and other local attractions.
The Tianlun International Hotel is fairly new and well run. During the Canton Fair prices are approximately 4 times the standard pricing. Rooms are very larger and the suites are huge. This is a very busy hotel.
The location is good for business travelers. The railway station is directly across the street. The porters will wheel your bags to the station. For the Canton Fair, it is not too far from the old or new venue. However, it will still take 45 minutes via shuttle bus to get to the old complex.
The food is mediocre at the western syle restaurant with most meals being served buffet style. There are quite a few choices at breakfast, although none of the food is great. There is a Japanese restaurant that was surprisingly good in the hotel.
Overall, considering I had to be in Guangzhou during the Canton Fair, this was a very good choice of hotel. I will stay again this year.
