The Westin Guangzhou is conveniently located in the heart of the Tian He District, the business district of Guangzhou. Our hotel is steps away from the city’s major corporate offices, wonderful retail shopping and dining, as well as the Guangzhou East T

After a week in Nanchang, China, at a supposed "5 Star" hotel (more like a 2-star), we were delighted when our car pulled up to The Westin Guangzhou. It is a true 5-star. We are Starwood Gold members, and were greeted at the check-in desk with water with lemon by the staff. Check-in took only a couple minutes and, after a pleasant elevator ride with signature Starwood relaxing music playing, we arrived at our room on the 19th floor. We came to The Westin after adopting twin girls and were happy to discover two beautiful cribs prepared for us in our spacious corner room. The room was exceptionally clean, and the bathroom--with sliding panel doors to provide views from the tub into the main room--was large with a powerful separate shower. The staff is exceptional. Guests are greeted by all when entering the hotel, and the guest relations managers, including Nick Lam, are top notch. Most of the staff speaks excellent English, and the few who do not, speak more than enough to get by. Rhyne, a concierge (you can't miss him, he's about 6' 3"), was helpful with everything from directions to recommendations for laundry service. The breakfast and dinner buffets are amazing--and the staff was very accommodating to our twin girls, who seemed to eat more than us. We also happily ordered room service, which was brought up most nights by Jason, who was very friendly, always on time, and the food was always hot and tasty. We were unable to try the Italian restaurant on the 40th floor, but it looked fabulous. And the indoor and outdoor pools were beautiful, although we did not use them. The gym appears well-equipped. My wife took advantage of the spa for a break and was very pleased with the service. My wife and I have stayed at many nice hotels and this was one of the best.
I was totally impressed with this hotel. I arrived late after a delay in Shanghai and was warmly greeted by the hotel staff. The staff here really know what customer service is all about. This service level is simply not in Beijing - it does not exist in the Great Wall Sheraton, the Hilton or the Lido. Being a Starwood Platinum member I was upgraded to an executive suite - this would have to be the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. It was fantastic on all levels, from the flat screen TVs and the Bose system to the quality of the bed and room appointments. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting 5 star accommodation in Guangzhou.
What can I say...fantastic hotel, they merit their 5 stars absolutely. Big perfect rooms, great breakfast, excellent service. And with the subway close by, even the fact they're a bit out of the center of town, is no problem.
I don't give five stars easily, but this one deserves it without a doubt. Well, you also pay them of course...
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. An ideal location for those coming in from Hong Kong. CITIC tower with several restaurants is across the street. Also, I discovered a great Irish pub just a 3 minute taxi ride away: Hooley's Irish Pub on Tian He Bei Lu. Hotel is also close to the subway lines and overall a highly recommended place.
We absolutely loved the hotel (though it isn't cheap). Loved, loved, loved!
Rooms were spacious (I mean HUGE,) clean, and quiet. Comfortable beds.
Seemed like a safe location in the financial district. Nice park across the street.
Air conditioning is great, as was the beautiful bathroom and toiletries. Nice pools (indoor and outdoor).
Hotel staff was incredible, so helpful, polite, and welcoming. Unbelievable service! They also have a currency exchange, which was very useful.
Our main complaint would be that no one really spoke English at the in-hotel travel agency. We had a lot of trouble booking train tickets and tours as a result. One evening, we inquired about tours for the following day, and were told they were “completely booked.” When we checked again in the morning (with another person on duty,) suddenly there were tons of available spots!
Overall, we were very, very happy, and would have no problems recommending this hotel to anyone.
The Westin in Guangzhou is an excellent 5 star business hotel. After a long day travelling, to be welcomed in reception with a warm glass of lemon tea whilst checking-in was great. The staff are efficient and friendly. The rooms are large, very comfortable and have every amenity a traveller needs. The 24 hr gym and fitness area is very good. Although expensive, the Westin is a perfect choice whilst on busines in Guangzhou. It is a very taxing and noisy city, and so the Westin is a welcome oasis.
The Westin Guangzhou is a very nice hotel. They have the Heavenly bed, which is great. The rooms are large, and well appointed. Plasma televisions, marble bathroom showers, soaking tubs. Highly recommend staying here if you are in Guangzhou.
Well here we are again and nothing has changed. The Westin continues to maintain its high standard. This time I can compare The Westin to the Hyatt Regency and the very good Westin The Bund Shanghai. These other 2 hotels are also very good hotels also but the difference is the staff.
The staff at GZ Westin make themselves known and I cant say what it is, maybe its the smaller lobby to the other 2 and thats not taking away the service from the others.
Staff such as Giggs,Rhymes,Andy and Paul make themselves well known.
Therefore there must be a reason why I can't remember one persons name from the other Hotels. These people are very very good at what they do.
I have never met the General Manager at GZ Westin but congractulations to him and all concerned, but theres no doubt your as good as the people around you.
Then you have Michael who looks after the Q Bar and the rest of the staff ,A1.
PREGO (BELLISSIMO) World class standard. You just have to eat there,I plan to take my family with me and PREGO is our first stop.
ITALIAN FOOD as it should be and thats a big statement (a greek praising italians, unheard off).
Graciano or should I say CHEF as he is referred to,is totally in control, excellent Chef and his whole team.
Open kitchen is a great thing and it is entertaining to watch these guys work. Its all clockwork.
Roberto greets his guests and controls the floor to perfection.I would love to let them know, that whichever Oil and Balsamic vinegar they use, under no circumstances should they let it out.
Really its the best,a must to have, when you visit.
Ok then theres big Dan or Daniel the Manager of everything.
I say the manager of everything because his every where.
One minute you see him at Prego the next his in the Lobby then his off to QBar and then his back at Prego.
The rooms are excellent, the cleanliness is A1,When I have travelled with my wife there has benn numerous times when we have packed up and moved because of cleanliness.I assure any readers this place would get my wifes approval and thats saying something.
I must say I had a major problem with a flight with Shanghai Airlines and was having great difficulty getting on another airline, well the girls at the travel desk did so much to help me.Even after I had no choice but to leave for the airport and go there on standby with all airlines they continued trying and in fact called me 10 minutes into heading to the airport to turn back. They had found a seat,Unbelievable service simply Unbelievable.I think the young girls name was Melody,if its not I apologise they were great.
Basically I must establishment walk in and be greeted by Sashi,Daniel and I cant remember one of the other Managers names ,I believe he is of either Indian or Pakistani background. In fact I nearly did'nt write this review because I forgot his name and he needs to be given the same respect as the rest.If I missed out on anyone I do apologise.
THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN WESTIN GUANGZHOU.CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK.
I have stayed in the Westin in Guangzhou at least twice a month since Sept 2007 and my stay has always been very pleasant. The rooms on the 31 floor are huge and I usually get the one with the massage chair . The ladies at the Lounge know me and prepare my scrambled eggs with cheese just the way I like them. The Westin in Guangzhou is definitely one of the best hotels in Mainland China- the beds are very, very comfortable and the rooms are very, very clean. The Italian restaurant on the top offers good Western food. The location is great if you need to go to/from Hong Kong.
I recently stayed for more than 7 nights at the Westin Guangzhou and so feel I can give some constructive feedback. I aslo stayed here in July 2007.
Location: If you are wanting to stay in a modern part of town with wide streets and towering buildings then this place is ideal. Opposite the hotel is the Citic buliding (currently tallest building in GZ) and there is a 'street' in the basement with some great restaurants, and western supermarket etc. Other shops such as Watsons are also nearby. The neareast metro station is less than 5 mins walk away.
Rooms: I stayed in a corner room on a high floor this time and the view was fantastic. The beds are very comfortable and the coffee maker is a great idea.
My main problem is with the bathroom, or to be more precise the toilet. The plumbing at the hotel seems to be very poor and on both visits I had problems flushing the toilet. It would contstantly get blocked (6 times in total) and to avoid embarrassement I would unblock it myself. This is the main reason why I can't give the Westin a five star rating. I am suprised no one else has mentioned this before.
Staff: Very friendly but sometimes a little annoying. For example, following guests around in the executive lounge each time they wanted to get some food or a drink. So sometimes I found them just too polite or in your face.
Breakfast Buffet: It is ok. If you are looking for a eggs, bacon etc then it is all there but the standard is no better than other hotels I have stayed in. I just found the breakfast too expensive and did not find it good value for money. It does however cater quite well for Asian guests.
Room Service: The first time I ordered it they got it wrong. I had no time to wait for them to correct the mistake (I was due at a meeting) and so left the hotel hungry. I think they could have handled it better, instead of a simple sorry.
Laundry: The cost is just too extortionate. It would be cheaper to buy new clothes than have them washed. I think they were charging 50rmb for one shirt. There are laundry services throughout town and I did notice that the Star Hotel (opposite hotel, across the park) had a laundry shop. I did not use it so no idea of cost.
Overall, there are some things that the Westin does well and there is no doubt that the rooms are clean and comfortable but they should sort out the plumbing!
Having stayed in quite a few so called 5-star hotels in GZ, I'd say Westin is the best, and for that matter, probably one of the best in China, at least in service.
The staff here is extremely well trained and courteous. Stepping past immigration at the Guangzhou East train staion, I was greeted by a nice young man named David, escorting me to the shuttle bus. From the driver to the doormen at the hotel, everyone was very courteous and obviously conscienscious of their job.
The hotel is literally brand new. Location can't be beat, walking distance to the GZ East station. Shopping mall across the street. 7-11 next door. Room is large and nicely decorated. All and all a wonderful stay made even better by one of the best trained Chinese hotel staff I've ever encountered, and this coming from somebody who spends about 100 nights a year in Chinese hotels, from Shangri-La to Ritz Carlton.
I stayed at the Westin for two nights (December 29 and 30, 2007).
My experience was totally positive. The staff was polite and helpful.
I was able to relax and enjoy my stay here. I treated myself to dinner one night at the Italian restaurant "Prego". Price was what I would pay in the United States but the quality was very good so it was worth the treat. For the budget meals there is "Papa John's" across the street and the Ikea cafe walking distance from the hotel.
I was able to get a great rate from the hotels website. If I was staying in Waikiki, Hawaii I would have had to pay almost three times more for the large and spacious room at Westin Guangzhou. This property is just great if you are looking for a retreat from the noisy and busy streets of Guangzhou, China.
Yes, it cost a little bit more compared to other hotels but isn't travel suppose to be a relaxing experience away from home. It's just not worth getting into a complaint arguement with hotel staff at a lesser hotel to chase bagain basement room rates. Life is too short to get angry on vacation. The Westin Guangzhou gave me a restful stay so the extra cost was well worth the experience in my opinion. You get what you pay for when you travel!
The rate at travel agent is the same with the hotel's site, so I decided to book with westin's website. I booked 2 nights of a deluxe room at CN$860++ which I think is value for money.
The room is very large with westin's heavenly bed which is very confortable. A large flat screen TV with over 50 Channels. The design is nice and contemporary.
The lobby isn't that grand. There are two kinds of iced tea that serve in the lobby which is free of charge. It is great have a little drink before you are going to have dinner.
The swimming pool is nice too. Lighting is excellent. Gym is also well equiped. The whirlpool in the changing room is great~!
My stay was smooth, but some little thing that bothered me. The A/C is not working well. It is quite hot in the room. So I asked to change a room. They quickly responsed. The room they were given me is much larger than the previous one which was still a deluxe room. So I think room with xx01 is the spacious one. My key worked poorly. I waited for over 30 mins for another key. Then they made apology when I made complaint and offered me a 4:00 pm late check out. Service might not be the best but still atop the hotel industry in China.
This hotel was practically brand new when we stayed there. It is beautiful. Our room was large and had wonderful extras we hadn't expected like a flat screen TV and Herman Miller desk chair. The king bed was huge and very comfortable and individual, adjustable book lights were built into the wall above the pillows.
The bathroom was huge with the tub and shower separate. A sliding door pulled back to open the bathroom to the bedroom area, so you could take a big bubble bath and watch TV if you wanted to. The shower had a "rainforest" type shower head and also an adjustable regular-style shower head. Unfortunately, the water from the shower flooded the toilet area because the glass divider between the shower and toilet was poorly designed and the caulking at the bottom did very little.
Our room also had an L-shaped sofa with throw pillows and overlooked the park across the street. The room has an individual temperature control and the air conditioning was wonderful--something very important for Guangzhou in July.
The breakfast buffet was unbelievable in the variety and selection, and everything we tried was delicious. Not much in the way of kid food, however.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, although some didn't speak enough English to communicate well with us. For instance, they wouldn't let us check out the night before we were to leave (we had a 5:30 am departure). They said if we checked out but stayed in the room overnight, they would have to charge us an hourly rate...so we waited and checked out in the morning.
In another instance, there were construction noises (drills, hammering) in the room next to ours and we had to call the front desk because the noise was so loud and our daughter was napping. We had a difficult time communicating our needs to the front desk, but after about an hour the noise finally stopped.
The hotel was located near a shopping mall, restaurants, a bus & subway station and a few convenience stores.
All in all, this was the nicest hotel we stayed in while visiting China. They had some rough edges that we attribute to the hotel's infancy and new staff, and I'm sure they will smooth those out quickly.
This is a brand new hotel with very comfortable large rooms and excellent amenities such as a beautiful Health club and a pool.
I give this hotel average ranking because their service to foreign guests still lacks understanding. The staff is very friendly and are trying to help. Unfortunately, they are not yet trained enough to be of real assistance. If you do not speak Chinese it is a real problem. They do try to help but their knowledge of surroundings is very basic and I have not received even once a useful recommendation from the staff. You really have to rely on any publications or guides to help find things outside the hotel. There are also many small things in the hotel that need imrpovements; all are hard to describe here but some are just due to lack of understanding of things Western.
A brilliant hotel - one of the finest in Asia I've stayed in.
Very polished. Rooms are amazing: really spacious, a very comfortable Westin "Heavenly" bed, an LCD TV and an unbelievable washroom - the shower is just great.
The buffet breakfast at Taste Restaurant is top notch. Do yourself a favour and wake up early, grab a newspaper and enjoy a nice laidback breakfast at the Westin Guangzhou.
Staff are very friendly and professional.
The location is excellent - kitty corner to CITIC Plaza. And, for your convenience, a 7-11, McDonald's and Blenz Coffee just across the street.
I stayed at the Westin for a few nights while on a business trip in Guangzhou. The price is a bargain compared to what they charge for a similar hotel in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The location is in a safe area with guards patrolling the streets. I did not want to risk staying at an unsafe area in Guangzhou. I felt safer than in Shanghai. No hawkers on the streets! The subway is a 5 minute walk away. Guangzhou has a modern subway system and I found it faster than taking a cab and being stuck in traffic.
My room was quite spacious with high ceilings and a decent view over the sports stadium park. Service was a noticible improvement from what I experienced in Shanghai, but still not up to par with other international five star hotels. I look forward to staying here again next time I'm in Guangzhou. One minor fault: housekeeping took a pair of my jeans by accident the day before I was going to check-out. The jeans, along with someone else's socks, were returned during my check-out but I received no apologies or notification when they were found. Again, this is Guangzhou and the Westin is probably levels above other local-owned hotels, but in the future I will be much more careful with my belongings.
Staff is very helpful, facilities are modern, decorated according to western tastes and fashionable. The room where I spent a week was a regular one. Everything was new and ambience was delightful , LCD , minibar in a wooden cabinet (see pics) Price was USD 400/night without breakfast , but I booked it through Expedia at the last minute during Canton Fair week. So I think you can get much cheaper rates at other times of the year.
Swimming pools -indoor and outdoor -(on the 6th floor), fitness and relax areas are just what a businessman looks for after a long working day in a foreign and strange country.
Restaurants: You will find a large variety of options. From local fare, to Italian (on the 40th floor, at very reasonable prices), and Latin bar where every night you can enjoy memorable drinks with Latin live music .
Business Centre: Wide range of services are available at your request almost 24 hs a day
Location: It ´s located very close to one of the main train stations, from where you can easily connect with main China locations, as well as HK . Surronding areas are safe and also close to main shopping mall.
The hotel sits close to a park and some shops and restaraunts are nearby, a subway is less then 5 minutes walk.
My room was an executive 1 bedroom suite which was delightfull, clean and comfortable, as the hotel is fairlly new everything was in good shape.
I really enjoyed the executive lounge good breakfast and evening drinks were nice.
The staff was very attentive and some employees spoke fairly good english ( magic the bag man was the best ). Otherwise i suggest make sure your instructions are repeated back to you.
My only problem was the starwood reservation line where i was promised a suite and confirmed a seperate bedroom ( they lied ) and i was hit with an extra 1000 per night charge.
The suite worked out to 5000 rnb per night but this was during the show and hotels are 3 times the regular rate.
Actually a great deal for the room, if it was'nt in china.
The main concourse lounge was fun in the evening and the lobster tacos were just the best ever. ( there was dutchman running the place and it was top drawer, clean and attentive service ) house band sucked.
Overall i would rate this hotel as a winner if your here on biz, if not i suggest the holiday inn is better located for shopping and sight seeing. ( we are moving to the holiday inn for the final 2 days)
Stayed at the new Westin Guangzhou last week. HUGE rooms with a great view over a great looking park. The hotel has great restaurants. The italian restaurant on the roof is excellent. About 50 minutes drive from the airport to the hotel. The best hotel in Guangzhou.
This has all the potential to be a fabulous hotel. The location is excellent so close to the train station (from HK) and the overall decor and quality of furnishings are gorgeous. The bedrooms are of a very high quality, as are the bathrooms and this place deserves to do well. However, we were very disappointed with a few things:
- the breakfast and dinners in the main restaurant (mezzanine floor - called "Taste") were really very average and expensive for what choice was available
- service was haphazard and not inspiring
- the shower / toilet area is poorly designed and ends up flooding the toilet bowl area (a design fault it would seem)
- I didn't get the Heavenly bed being all that good - sorry
On the plus side, the Qba bar is lovely and service is good.
Overall I would say give this place a few months to get better as it has opened too quickly and there are plenty of teething troubles to deal with right now.

THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN WESTIN GUANGZHOU.CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK.
Fabolous hotel, stunning views, excellent room and fantastic layout.
You get so used to being in the same hotels, they all begin to look the same after a while.
This felt different, the layout was good and modern, it felt spacious and the bath and shower were absolutely fantastic.
Visited the restaurant on the top floor, and also the breakfast buffet both were absolutely perfect.
All together a really good experience

Great hotel, Great service, comfy bed and LARGE room. Most of the staff has a good understanding of the english language.
Stay here - you won't be disappointed.
It was the best hotel I ever stayed at.
I had such high hopes....
