Expect the usual high standards of a Shangri-la Hotel but the location of this one is waaayy out of the city. And there is nothing around the hotel except for massive parking for the huge convention center. Great for business or work but if you are in Guangzhou for a holiday, better to stay in the hotels in the city.

Having stayed at some of the best hotels in the world on a number of occasions over a business career spanning 4 decades, this hotel is unsurpassed in terms of luxury and service!!!!

It starts even before you reach the hotel, with the polite, professional and friendly service by email receieved when making your booking via the internet(Tracy Zhou)

On arrival at the hotel you are greeted by genuinely happy smiling faces, from the door staff through to the concierge and reception staff.

Horizon Club staff greet you at reception and escort you to your room.

The room itself can only be described as un-adulterated luxury with everything you could ever wish for right to hand!!

The service throughout the hotel is exemplary with special mention going to the Horizon Club team(Grace,Zoe,Candy,Gloria,Alan,Jessica and new girl Maggie) who make you feel really special during your stay!!!!

Any request that you make is greeted with a genuine desire to help and find the desired solution to your query.

This is a level of service not found in so called 5* hotels in the West!!

Just one example of Western culture learning from Eastern!

These levels of service do not just happen, they are clearly the product of a superbly managed hotel in which the well trained staff perform their duties in a happy and enthusiastic manner.

The fact that the hotel is situated outside the City centre is a real positive, because transport to and from the hotel is excellent either by tube train or taxi and it is nice to be able to avoid the hustle and bustle of down town Guangzhou in the luxurious oa sis that is the Shangri-La hotel, Guangzhou!!!!!

The Shangri-La hotel is without any doubt the most luxurious hotel I have ever been in.

The staff and it service was perfect, the room was splendid (view on the pearl river)

What made it really unforgettable was the level of attention to service. It started when I checked in and got a fresh towel to whipe away the stress of the long intercontinental flight (Heathrow - Guang Zhou). It coninued in this manner throughout my stay.

Details that actually made the difference are:

- the porter who always made sure that my taxi driver knew where my intended destination was by explaining it in detail. Even changing cabs if necessary.

- the person responsible for the outside pool who helped me to find the lockers and the keys when I was bit lost, being the only swimmer early in the morning.

I really cannot find any fault in the way the hotel is run.

The only negative point would be the distance to the center of the city and the fact that the hotel is positioned in a commercial/businees district. Then again, the metro is close by (and very fast, reliable and cheap) and you can of course always take a taxi (a bit slower but perhaps more convenient).

Excellent hotel, if you don't mind the trek into town.

Tremendous views

1-Staff greet you at the main entrance and escort you to reception.

2-Check-in is very quick.

3-Luggage delivery is flawless.

4-Internet connection required assistance from IT, but was connected in no time, quality connection.

5-Plasma screen TV was great.

6-Turndown service was done very well, typical Shangri-La standard.

7-Fantastic power shower with dual heads.

8-All-day dining restaurant was better in afternoon than in the evening.

9-Conference facilities were impressive to say the least, the coffee breaks were imaginative.

It was my first trip to China mainland. I knew communication in English or any language other than Chinese would pose constant problem. But, I was in for a surprise when I landed at Guangzhou airport late evening around 11pm. I could immediately hop into a taxi which welcomes every passenger in Chinese and English through a recorded message. The taxi driver was very polite and friendly. He took me straight into Shangri-la through a free highway in about half an hour or so although the distance must have been more than 40 km. At the hotel the doorman greeted me and escorted me to the reception where check-in formalities were completed very deftly and efficiently. The lobby area was huge and very impressive. The room was quite spacious with a clear view of the Pearl river. Everything in the room was well placed and spelt quality. In one word it was flawless. Breakfast spread was quite elaborate so was dinner. The location of the hotel is a little away from midtown Guangzhou but very convenient for those who would visit the exhibition ground as it is within the same complex. The service delivered all through my stay of two days was extraordinary. I strongly recommend this property for visitors to Guangzhou even if he or she has to travel a few miles more to reach his or her place of work. Finally, I must congratulate hotel staff for their sincere efforts to speak well and correctly in English.

What a hotel! Not only is it a great value compared to other Shangri-La's that are of the same quality or higher (our rate was only 900 something RMB per night- compare that to Island Shangri-La of 3,100 HKD per night), the service is just PHENOMENAL! You are really treated as a VIP- and we as a Elite member truly got what we were supposed to get and more! I've stayed here last year and already gave it a 5/5 for great service. This year was even better! Stayed here two times...but the first time was longer than the second (the second time we arrived really late and left early too....so not going to talk much about that experience).

On our first time, we came to the hotel by means of their Guangzhou Railway Station shuttle bus. Right when we reached their counter, it was all smooth sailing! After getting our names, the man there gave us chilled towels and chilled water from a cooler. No other hotel at the hotel counter stands had a cooler of any sort. After walking through the ultra hot heat, the chilled towels and water were great!

The driver answered our questions nicely, and after some traffic, we arrived at the hotel. But- there was something really special just even arriving at the front door at the hotel. Somehow, the Horizon Club Manager Grace and another lady were waiting OUTSIDE just for us! And the manager even remembered us from last year (even though we stayed there only one night!)! No other Shangri-La property has ever had service such as this.

Walking into the Lobby was a great change from last year. And that change was the people! The hotel was so busy! That day they had a big event for one company...and there was music from the lounge performed by people. A huge area (even a sitting area) was also made for Shangri-La mooncakes as well. None of this was existent last year- last year the hotel was virtually empty! Not only that, when we went during the weekend days, the hotel cafe Wok Too was almost full! Last year it was again at the most only half full.

Due to our membership level we got a free upgrade to an Executive suite (as well as use of the Horizon Club Lounge). All the views were of the pool and the Pearl river. One night we did stay at a regular room as you are supposed to only get a Suite for 3 nights as a free upgrade. Here are our insights of the rooms, in which both have a gold/ beige, white, and dark wood/black color scheme as well as splashes of colors from other things, floral arrangements, Samsung LCD TV's, work tables, and Grohe showerheads.

Executive suite: The first room is a big sitting area with 2 single seat sofa chairs, and then a large sofa in which can seat around 3 people. It's good for if you have people coming, or if you just want too sit and watch TV, in which is in front of the sofas. Entryway is complete marble, and the right area has a bathroom.

Most interesting is the coffee/tea making area. In the suites, they actually give you 5 tins of loose tea instead of 8 tea bags. And the tins are actually pretty big- you probably could brew at least 6 times. Also there are tea cups and cups, as well as a minibar, hot water dispensing machine, and a french press.

Then, you go in to the right (this is a --01 room, which is to the right side of the building(as from where you exit the elevators- left side you would flip that around) and the bed is there as well as a mural, and a makeup area. Also, the bedroom is at the corner, so 2 sides of the room have windows. In addition there is a closet with the nicest slippers we have ever tried on at a Shangri-La property, a luggage area, a safe, and lastly the bathroom. The bathroom has L'occtiane toiletries (unlike last year it was Aigner), as well as 2 showerheads in the really large shower head (one handheld and one that has two areas that pump out water). There's also a in bathroom TV and a large tub, as well as the toilet and a bidet.

Regular Room: Obviously more basic- entryway also has a large mirror, and meanders into the bathroom. Lavender toiletries here- no L'occitane. Further in is a closet with not so nice slippers, a safe, and also the luggage area. The bed is the same, and then there is a small sitting area to the far end of the room as well as the TV and work table.

Next thing is Dining. The food was again good, but slightly downward quality from last year. We had one dinner at Summer Palace and it was OK, but not particularly good. We had a BBQ meats platter, which was excellent, as well as a dish of veggies. Also ordered a sea cucumber and also a fried rice. However, there were 2 things that were not really "excellent". The fried rice, even though it had pork floss, fish eggs, and other ingredients, was just so so all because of the rice. The rice was HARD. Somehow, all the fried rices you get in Shangri-La are all hard! The sea cucumber had a little of a off taste in which we didn't like.

We had complimentary breakfast both at Wok Too and at the Horizon Club lounge.

Wok Too: This year was again different! They had a giant waffle maker this year that produced a really rustic waffle. Also, their dim sum selection had different things. Such as a orange colored sweet dumpling and a egg custard bun that had an egg in it! They now had different juices, and even chrysanthemum tea was part of the selection! The only not so good thing was that the noodle station didn't have the fish ball with an orange filling with fish eggs in it- it's now only at the Island Shangri-La at Hong Kong. Anyway, breakfast has: an western section, a chinese section, congee section, noodles section, bakery section, cold cuts section, juices and fruits section, milk and cereal section, and lastly a japanese section.

Horizon Club Lounge: It was okay. Very quiet in the Lounge, and the service was better. Porridge was served in rice cookers, and there was your usual continental breakfast and hot dishes. You could also ask things such as omelets, dumplings, and wonton noodles, in which were okay.

Health Club Facilities: Very good! The gym offered lots of machines, and was finally complete. Last year they were doing renovations. New signs were posted as well. The pool however was not maintained well enough. Started to have some green stuff on the caulking! And the pool was way too busy on the weekends- at least 40 people were in the pool, which made it hard to swim. Last year it was virtually empty! My last complaint was that one of the pumps for shampoo and conditioner had no shampoo and conditioner and the pump button was gone. However, the next day, that shower read: "Closed for maintenance". That's good- they do take a watch of everything!

And last and most importantly are the staff and service. I have to say they are just the best! What really made our stay was the Horizon Club staff. Unlike Kowloon Shangri-La's Horizon Club staff in which made our stay really bad, Guangzhou's Horizon Club staff made our stay superb! Why should I pay less in Guangzhou than in every other city...but get service worthy of the finest hotels in the world (and I have to say this is one of them)? Everytime we went in to their lounge, they recognized us and called us by name. One of the staff even taught me how to steam and make frothy milk using their gigantic coffee machine.

Even more interesting is their memory of people who stayed there. Staff in which we really didn't see often even called us by name. At the lobby, whenever someone entered the lobby, one member of the staff would ask you if you needed something or give you a nice greeting. And that is what I call good service!

At the health club, whenever we left, they would always escort us to the elevators, and wished us to have a good day. No other hotel has done that to us!

During our stay, we extended our stay 2 times. And whenever we extended our stay, somehow we got another set of welcome amenities! Our welcome amenities were always there when we got a room- never did we have to ask for it! Red wine here was a Charlotte Street 750ml bottle.

In conclusion, we had a truly excellent stay. The staff is truly superb and helpful, and they are truly worthy of a 5/5 rating! Have tons of photos, and will be downloading them on soon.

I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. I found this hotel to be truly luxurious with excellent service. I stayed in a Horizon Club room, so I used the club lounge for snacks and breakfast. The room was good sized with a very comfy bed, 40" LCD tv, all marble bathroom with separate shower. By the way, great water pressure in the shower; and nice toiletries. A first class gym and full sized indoor swimming pool as well as a beautiful outdoor pool. The hotel is right next to the new exhibition center, but not much else. I ate in the Wok Too restaurant twice and the buffet food was very good. If I ever have to come back to Guangzhou, I will definitely stay here again.

I've been staying in many hotels before, but shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou is definetly the best. Excellent! One of the top hotels in China.

Althought the room rate during Canton Fair period is a bit expensive, but it totally worth it.

Best service, best food!

I will come back to it in the future.

Nicely done, excellent hotel. Ihad Horizont reservation, therefore I had a room on 34th level with extra facilities. The service and staff is very professional, helpful and polite. The hotel itself very new, nice and clean. My room was excellent, huge (quite a ballroom) with a big sized bathroom equipped both with tube and shower (non-mentioned the telly in the bathroom! :)). The breakfast is gorgeous, with large choice. I would highly recommend this hotel for any occasions (tourism, business..)

I have just returned from Guangzhou, China, and I stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel Guangzhou. As with other Shangri-La properties I've stayed in, my stay here was most wonderful.

I was greeted at the Baiyun International airport by TWO Shangri-La rep and escorted to my waiting sleek black Audi limo. The ride to the hotel was nice and comfortable. On arrival at the hotel, the GM, Mr Klauser (it's good to meet up with you again, Reto!) and his team were waiting for me at the main entrance, I felt like an extra special guest who's coming home! I was then escorted to my river view room on the 32nd floor. It is indeed a very nice room with an equally nice view of the Pearl River. The king size bed is so inviting that you don't want to get up once you lie down! A big plasma TV, comfortable lounge chair and the bathroom ammenities were great. The foggy weather covering Guangzhou was a bit of a let down, however. The welcome ammenities, a bottle of Hardy's red and fresh fruits were waiting. From check-in to check-out, all went smoothly and well.

My sincerest thanks to ALL the nice staff, Irene and David at the Horizon Club Lounge, the conceirge team, notably, Kenny, for giving me a tour of the hotel, I enjoyed the visit to CHI Spa with the singing bowl demo, and Denny Chi, the ever smilling and cheerful guy. Xie xie ni men! I appreciate their assistance in every way! Thank you also to the other concierges who assisted me, as well as the limo driver. My only regret is that I don't speak much Mandarin to chat more with them.

The food at il Forno, the Italian restaurant is simply very good, the ambience is great and very cosy, with a huge selection of wines

I will come back to Guangzhou, and it's Shangri-La Hotel Guangzhou, or nothing! This new hotel is just the place to be when in this part of China. The staff here are ever ready to help and always with a warm smile. Going that extra mile, yes indeed!

Stayed at the Shangi La on a work visit...I arrived late in the evening (close to midnight) but I just couldn't bear to go to sleep after I I was shown to my room...what a palace...beautiful large bed with lovely white cotton sheets, plasma tv, sights across Guangzhou, everything you would need...the most divine lavender toiletries (topped up every day)...fantastic walk in shower with a spa head...the breakfast buffet was unbelievable....everything you could want to eat from western food to noodle dishes cooked to your liking as you wait...the staff were so professional and polite. Would definately recommend and will definately go again if I need to visit Guangzhou.

As I took over some responsibilities in Guangzhou I was looking for a long stay apartment. Finally I found Shangri-La as an opportunity as I stayed since their grand opening. I was always impressed in which short time the service is on that high level. The building is from great quality with so many different offers for food and relaxing. It's a truly second home I thought and choose it for long stay assignment. The service apartment they offered has the same dedicated style as the hotel rooms. Great space, nice and comfy bed and great views. But nevertheless how you be treated by the staff is outstanding. Maybe as China traveller you got some different insights but what you can enjoy is just amazing. You feel treated in warm personal way especially the management, the horizon club and the restaurants with their bars. Keep the pace. I will come back again soon!!

We were here for a 3 day convention and had a (standard) deluxe king room, which was perfectly fine. The location is quite far from the city centre but great for the conference centre.

The overall quality of the hotel is excellent, with great service and quality food and drinks, including the nice little Lift Bar on the mezzanine floor.

The room and bathroom were lovely although we had to get it vacuumed on arrival as there were potato chips all over the floor and dressing table - but no big deal.

Breakfast was very good but the area is too small for such a large hotel - who wants to queue for breakfast!? Opted for room service instead!

Overall a very nice place to stay and recommended.

What an experience. Everything was taken care of from start to finish. Booked a Suite and a Horizon Club room and everrything was perfect. We were picked up at the airport and taken straight to the hotel. Just 30 minutes which compared to my previous visits to Guangzhou was completely without any traffic jams or anything of that sort. The beutifully groomed airport rep greeted us with a big smile and we were whisked away to the hotel.

The Horizon Club is magical with a full spread in the morning, fantastic atmosphere in the evening and a stunning view accross the city from the 34th floor throughout the day. This city is brimming with development and I am glad that we are in with the action. The city has really missed a top quality hotel and it has now finally arrrived with the Shangri-La. We know where we are staying next time for sure.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Horizon Club at Shangri-La Guangzhou. We simply can not fault anybody or anything. Great rooms, great housekeeping and the ladies at the club are unbelievable - nothing is to much trouble, look out for the club manager Grace - she is fantastic and knows all the ins and outs you need to know if you have never been to this city before. The hotel was not very busy when we stayed there, maybe because it's a bit away from the city centre or because it is still very new. But I can tell you, after 3 days, I realized that if you have to drive in and out of the city, this hotel has actually the best location as it is right next to a highway enterance / exit. The city center is totally crowded and terribly poluted. So, watch this hotel, it's just a matter of time and this Shangri-La Hotel, like in many other cities, will be the big winner in no time.

I was here for a brief stay. Love the prevailing sense of traditional in the decor - classical Chinese yet modern. The deluxe room I stayed in is very spacious. Better than the usual rooms I am used to. For dining, I like Cool Thai for the food and Wok Too cafe for the setting. Wish I had tried the CHI spa, but maybe next time....

I heard about this hotel from a friend who stayed here before, he strongly recommend me to give it a try, so I did! It was a great experience! I love the riverview from room, and the hotel location is not as remote as I heard, indeed I think it's quite convenient with the hotel shuttle and it's not difficult to get a taxi after all! Only 10 min. away from downtown area is actually better than some other hotels! The great thai food is also strongly recommended by my friend, we are both big fan of thai spice, the grean curry and the beautiful smile from the waitress almost make me feel like I'm in thailand ;) I wish my trip could be longer so that I could try the SPA, the unique brand of the hotel. BTW, the lobby lounge is a nice chill out place with a live band of great vocal, it's good to hang out there with a cocktail! ;) I'm sure I will come to this hotel again for my next trip, it simply makes me feel as good as home with so many nice people around, and much fun to explore the good food here!

I had to opportunity to stay at the Shangri-La hotel in Guangzhou when I accompanied my partner on his business trip. The room was great, very comfortable with a great view. We dined at the wonderful Il Forno Italian Restaurant and we kept going back for more, Proper Italian food in China, something you have to experience to believe. To top it all, Shangri-La hospitality as promised was felt from all the wonderful staff working there!! Kudos to Shangri-La for another great hotel!!!!

I stay in Guangzhou every 3 to 4 month. This time I stayed at the Shangri-La for the first time. What a fantastic hotel. While the location is not the greatest (it's on the other side of the pearl river) it does not take so much longer to reach any of the centres in GZ. In return, coming "home" after a hard day of work is like entering a different world, like a sancturary in a big, buzzing city. I also thought the airquality was better then in the centre. You stay in great room (loved the LCD TV), the Thai Restaurant and the Chinese Restaurant are fantastic, top of the line health club and the SPA takes the cream - it's superb. The people are very friendly, the English in some areas needs some polishing but I am sure they'll get there. Then I met someone who stayed stayed in a Horizon Club room and he invited me for a drink to the lounge. Clearly, on my next visit, it will be a Horizon Club arrangemnt for me. It's worth the extra money. Overall - this hotel is as good as it can get in Guangzhou.

I've stayed at various Shangri-la hotels in China, including the hotel in Shanghai and Fujian. I plan to write reviews of each individually, however, I wanted to share my thoughts about the Guangzhou locale.

The hotel was beautiful and new; the buffet was gorgeous; and the ostentation view was charming. Furthermore, the rooms were far larger than any other hotel I've stayed-in in China. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. My only complaint is that it may have been too quiet. There's not much to do around the hotel. The nearest sign of life is a 15 minute taxi ride away.

It appears my experience of this hotel is not unique (read the rest of the reviews)

First things first: Most reviewers agree the location is not very good. It takes ages to get to the city centre - it's on the wrong side of the river! AND, there is nothing n terms of services, shops etc within the vicinity - VERY isolated...

I stayed at the Horizon Club, and as one reviewer mentioned, the staff did seem rather, how should I say it... 'pernickety'?? I don't mean they were fussing over us, but rather the attitude was rather aloof and 'unforgiving': More like, if they had forgotten something (i.e. that it was their fault), they would do the absolute minimum to correct it and nothing more. OK, perhaps you might think that it would be wrong of me to expect them to bed-over-backwards to help me, but in my experience, bearing in mind this is a 4/5 star hotel, that is what most hotels in this price range will do. Their attitude is not good. BTW, we were promised fresh fruit in our rooms everyday, we didn't get it.

OK, the rooms were standard. Again someone mentioned this. They were rather boring actually. Clean though!

The really annoying thing that fully blackened our experience was at the indoor swimming pool. We (myself and sister-in-law) were at the poolside and just about to go in, when the attendant told us we had to wear the plastic caps if we were to enter the pool. We told them we didn't have them, so he said we could purchase them at the counter! To add insult to injury, when we asked why, he said it was to protect the water, so as not to get it 'dirty'... My husband was already in the pool, saw the commotion and made his approach. Bizarrely, he backed off and let us be.. i'm not sure what was going on in his mind, i'll let you be the judge of that.

Anyway, this episode and the overall 'coldness' of the staff was enough to put me off the Shangri-la brand. A very POOR hotel, considering the amount you have pay.

I will not be returning to this hotel, ever again!

Very new hotel it is , open only 2-3 weeks before the canton fair when we checked in.

The like was the hotel transfer from railway station, eventhough i have not book for it , They were there and help us through the tranfer. Check -in was fast and punctual. The standard room we booked was nice and clean, well design with lot of storage space which I think the signature of Shangri-la room design.

The conciege desk was always busy, as you'd know during the Canton fair. The thing i'd complain is that they said in the hotel website to have golf cart transfer to metro station, but there wasn't when we ask, and it's about 5-10 minute walk.

It's my dad's birthday on the night before we checked out, we were celebrated by a complementary huge cake from the hotel, with the staff saying happy birthday, It's a nice touch.

On the check out, There was a europian guest lost thier Luggage ( not at the hotel, but along his travel somehow) , He had only his walllet and the cloth he's wearing, The duty front manager offerd him the new hotel T-Shirt for a change while he's waiting for his friend to come by. That's was a geniunely service mine she did.

I will have to dissagree with the last review, because I also stayed in The Horizon Club during 26th of April up to 1st of May and I have to say that the hotel is amazing.

Check in and check out was made under 5 minutes and completely relaxed.

The room was absolute clean, comfort and very spacious.

I have tried several times the Buffet restaurant at the lobby level and I thing it was extremely good, regarding the fact that it was packed every night (during the fair).

The Lobby bar is very big with very relaxing armchairs and sofas and every night there was a group of three very talented ladies from Philipines, that can sing any song you like.

Regarding the location, it is true that the hotel is a little bit far

(20-30 minutes on taxi) from the center of the city, but I loved that

I was staying 2 minutes away from the fair, because I didn't have to wake up early in the morning and I was in no time back to hotel after a long day in the fair.

So, when I am going to be back in the Canton Fair, I will definately stay in the Shangri-La!

I stayed at the Shangri-la Guangzhou in April this year mainly because I was impressed with the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong. What can I say except, BIG MISTAKE!

I was in Guangzhou on business, sourcing materials etc, so I thought i'd book into their so called 'Horizon Club'. Basically, you get a fairly nice room, if rather unispiring (as the previous reviewer noted) and you have access to the Horizon Club lounge on the 31st floor. This service includes lounge check-in, free snacks throughout the day and a limited buffet breakfast.

On arrival, we were escorted to the Club Lounge for check-in, so far, so good. Unfortunately we had to wait 3 hours in total before our room was ready. The room was not yet cleaned, the additional fold-up bed was not present and our luggage was delivered half an hour after we were in our room. The Club lounge manager was unable to locate the necessary departments to get all this done before hand! As a result we were late meeting our contact in Guangzhou.

Unfortunately, this was the beginning of a series of mishaps during our stay here. On the second day, we invited our local interpreter to the lounge before dinner. We had booked a table at the Cafe Too. On entering the Lounge, we were informed it was 'happy hour' , we informed the staff member that we had already booked a table elsewhere and only came for a cup of tea.

The next day, we were approached by a Club staff member informing that we had brought a guest to the lounge and thus presented a bill for approximately 160RMB (around 10 british pounds) to cover the 'happy hour' fee for my guest. I was of course surprised and a little annoyed at how this was conducted. I explained that we only had tea and my guest did not try any of the other snacks on display. The staff member then cancelled the bill and promptly presented me with another bill for around 35RMB (just over £2 !) to cover the cost for the tea. If I wanted to be pernickety, I could have mentioned that we only had 3 teabags in the pot, served for 4 people!

I don't mind paying the extra cost, but I do object to the rather accusing manner in which this was conducted. I had enquired the previous day if I cound invite my guest to the lounge, so there was no intent to decieve!

The last debacle was at the Cafe Too where all my party left the table for the buffet counter. When we came back, we found the staff had cleared our table along with our drinks! they were apologetic, but only replaced our drinks when we asked and were not willing to replace them with what we originally ordered!

Of course, I summarised all of this in a letter to the manager, sent to the main hotel lobby reception, not the Club lounge, as I felt I could not approach them. The next day when we were checking out, a hotel manager came and briefly mumbled an apology, followed us down to the main lobby and left. Our taxi arrived and we left.

In my own opinion, I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone, whether you are on business or leisure. Another thing, the hotel is located amidst a construction site on the wrong side of the river! As a result, it is quite remote, with no amenities nearby. Travel to the city centre was long and a bit of a chore if you need to be in the city quite frequently. The underground train system is good though.

Overall, the staff are not experienced enough, communication between the different departments is bad and it appears the staff have been trained to be SO pernickety that they will not give-way, even if it is there fault.

I will not be staying here again...

I recently stayed at this hotel for one night for business. It's a brand new and nice hotel, but really nothing special and due to its remote location (about 20 minutes away from town), I will not stay here again unless I'm attending a trade show at the near by convention center.

The lobby and entrance have high ceiling and are big and grand, but feels empty. The room and bath room are big and elegantly decorated. However, if you are a fan of modern chic design, you will not like the decor of this hotel which is more conservation. The room is overlooking the river and the big swimming pool downstairs which was still not open. I think it will be a pretty nice swimming pool when it is ready.

Only the international and Chinese restaurants were open when I was there. I did not venture outside the hotel because the neighborhood seems pretty quiet and does not seem to have good and interesting restaurants to try. So I ended up eating at Cafe Too, the international restaurant. The a la carte menu has a very very small selection and even though the price is not high as I had imagined for a 5 star interntional hotel in China, the quality is really mediocre. I was more impressed with the buffet breakfast though. They had a big selection and quality was good.
