Located right outside Dali Old Town the Jade Emu is a home away from home. Owned by Dave and his partner Song this lovely chinese building with a great yard to eat, drink or play pool is just a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of Dali. We stayed 3 weeks and were very sad, when time came to say goodbye. We will definitely be back.
the best hostel i have ever stayed in. the owner is a really nice and helpful guy and everyone is so relaxed here. everything about the place is really really good. wouldnt hesitate to come back to beautiful dali and i would definately stay at this amazing hostel again! thanks so much for making my stay here a memorable one.

Super place to stay ! When staying in the dorm, you have to go outside for the bathroom - but it has a heater, so superb for winter time. Furthermore, everything is working and well organized. There is no place indoors to eat though and the common room is small and 'open'. But still, one of the nicest places I've been so far...
The Jade Emu has been set up with the traveller in mind- unlike most budget options in china.
The have a chilled courtyard with a pool table and a small bar area. Its a little out of town which is either the best thing about the place, or the only drawback. The neighbours are local people, fields are a short walk away, but it also means a bit more of walk to get to and from the town.

Wonderful. The atmosphere of tranquil conviviality makes you stay longer than you should. Dave and Song treat you like guests in their home rather than paying customers and the charming army of conscientious support staff and the most comfortable beds you\'ll find combine to make this place a real winner.
We stayed in the jade Emu as part of our trip in China. this was one of the best budget places we stayed in. It is run by an Aussie and his Chinese Partner (Dave & Song). The staff were very helpful from the moment we arrived early in the morning until when we left 3 days later.
They had lots of information about Yunan in general as well as Dali specifically. The place is situated just outside the city walls but is reasonably close to the town (5-10 min walk). It is quiet, clean and they have got most things right for independent travellers.
My only complaint would be that it will not be practical to stay there once the weather turns a little colder - the rooms aren't heated and there were no rugs on the marble floor - it made the morning dash to the bathroom a bit chilly.
