Stayed at the Hilton Chongqing for 2 nights and thought it was a nice hotel. Seems to be a business hotel mainly as the breakfast was empty on Sunday, but packed Monday. Hotel is clean, service was fine, nice lobby. I think it was typical for what you'd expect from a Hilton outside the US.
Just wrapped up a three-day stay at this property. To be clear, I do not stay at Hilton Hotels (I am a devout Shangri La / Peninsula patron). That being said, I am starting to think that Hilton Hotels are a completely different experience in China -- I previously had a great experience at Beijing's Hilton -- which is an outstanding hotel by any standards.
Positives
* Great service - all staff attentive and seemed to go the extra mile for politeness and friendliness. All spoke English well and knew how to deal with foreigners.
* The property - nice public areas, comfortable feeling, very nice lobby bar in addition to a very comfortable entrance/driveway. Generally a nice area; no "eye-sores" surrounding this hotel.
* Room - my suite here was by far better than the suite I had at the JW Marriott. Especially the bathroom -- very spacious sink area and plenty of light. Much more comfortable floor plan also.
Bed was comfortable and the room was very clean.
Negatives
* Depending on your taste this may actually be a positive for you. I would say that for my taste the location is not as good as the Marriott -- as I prefer being closer to the large shopping area. Notwithstanding, this area is more peaceful and certainly more pleasing to the eye.
having first stayed at the hilton chongqing during its soft grand opening and returning this year (2007) for my fourth visit, this hotel continues to meet international standards and personal expectations. its management staff has covered all the little details that result in a trouble free stay. i have visited other hotels in chongqing, and the hilton is my choice of stay. i recommend this hotel to the business traveler for its clean and luxurious rooms, great high speed internet connection, quiet conference rooms with included amenities, and central location. if you are a liesure traveler on holidays, this hotel will serve you equally well.
We were at the Chongqing Hilton in June,2005. The staff was amazing and the food was out of this world. The room was wonderful and roomy with a wonderful view. The staff always went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that everything had been taken care of. They were always very helpful when we were going out sightseeing. This was the most amazing hotel staff and hotel and would stay there again with no hesitations.
I just spent almost 2 months in Chongqing. Of the 5 star hotels to choose from I think the Hilton stands out for service, food and most importantly location. A new Marriott just opened in the City Center and if shopping is your priority it might be the location for you. But if you're interested in being in a real neighborhood, watching or doing Qi Gong and Tai Chi every morning with the locals, having tea and getting massaged or having your ears cleaned or sitting in the park and listening to a jazz band and sitting in the square at night watching hundreds of people dancing....this is the place. Their buffet breakfast is excellent and they probably have the best bread in China
