Everything was just as it should have been. Friendly, helpful staff, excellent room, good breakfast. Perfect service. Two examples of the latter:

When we arrived the approach roads were all blocked owing to a pop concert near the hotel. Two porters came to meet our taxi and carried the luggage a few hundred metres to the hotel - then disappeared before we could give them a tip!

When we complained about having been given twin beds instead of a double we received a free upgrade immediately.

My boyfriend, his brother and I stayed at this hotel for a few nights in May as part of our tour of China. This was just before the earthquake hit.

We have to say we absolutely loved this hotel, the staff and facilities and couldn't have done better for a place in Chengdu. We were guided to stay here by our tour operators who booked our whole itinerary for us ( http://www.travelchinaguide.com ) and were very impressed by the standard of accommodation we received.

The Sheraton was comfortable, with a clean spacious bathroom, open room with good furnishings, comfortable bed, and a really nice feel to the hotel. It was glamorous and stylish and grand but not in a stuffy way. We loved the bar and really liked the service we received.

Everything was as it should be. We went on a trip for a few days to see the countryside and other sites of interest and the hotel looked after our bulky luggage until we came back a few days later. We didn't get any fuss or problems.

As for Chengdu, it was a beautiful and wonderful experience to stay there. It's quite a laid back atmosphere in the city. We went to a restaurant called Gingko on our first night and couldn't believe the quality of food ( v v good ) and how reasonable this was in price ( photo of this place attached ). We have little Mandarin but the restaurant staff were very helpful and the menu had pictures so we could choose based on pointing at them! ....we adored the food.. even those of us who were nervous about eating Chinese style food thought it was wonderful.

We also ate at a fantastic Sichuan hotpot place and went to see the Opera - both were arranged through our travel guide. Would highly recommend both.

Another gem was Dave's Oasis Bar ( as featured on No Reservations ) located on Bin Jiang Zhong Road, the beer is cheap and it's a nice, interesting place to meet locals and expats.

If we are ever luck enough to go back to Chengdu, Sheraton Lido would definitely be where we would stay.

It was my first trip to Chengdu and I stayed here for two days for business purpose.

I'm bit biased towards Starwood chain which I usually use but again I thought the stay was pleasant and I couldn't find any troubles some other reviews relates to.

The room size was adequate but I thought the bathroom could have been bigger. All other amenities were okay and room was well maintained.

However, What I like about Chengdu is their staffs' attentiveness and friendliness. Staffs that I came across all had wonderful smiles with good English and were willing to help all the time. It looks like they were enjoy working there, or Sheraton was doing a good job in terms of training.

Otherwise, free snacks offered at 4pm was quite good and breakfast was also satisfactory.

Didn't really have chance to walk around so can't really comment about the location and accessibility but there were some roadworks and constructions going around(well..across all the city though)

Would love to go back for spicy foods and I guess I'll stay again in Shearaton Chengdu.

I booked this hotel through CTG booking center. They offer very excellent service, quite easy and efficient. I will definitely use the service again next time in China.

The hotel is beautifully located in Luomashi Commercial Area, near to the International Exhibition Center. The hotel lobby is very beautiful and the reception staff was very kind and courteous. I stayed in One Deluxe king size bed room, I really enjoyed my staying. The room is very spacious and clean, the room also has a good view of the city. As for the hotel breakfast, it is good but a little expensive.

In all, I was very satisfied with the hotel. Highly recommended.

Like staying in own home, apartment type luxury without busy hotel atmosphere.

On I believe 14th floor and had great relaxed views from Balcony.

We stayed here for one night so we could visit the Panda's. On our arrival from the airport the city looked great. When we were trying to check in I could see that there was a lot of searching for us on the database, conversations in Chinese with our couriers. I think we ended up with a late check out room as it was dirty & located by the lift. We were woken up at midnight by someone trying to find their room & then decided to bellow down the phone by trhe lift to reception. I was glad to hear he went into the lift & we never heard from him again.

Food in the restaurant was okay as was the service.

I stayed here in a "Superior Twin" w/ my 2 kids. The beds were a bit smaller than I expected, but other than that it was very nice.

They had non-smoking floors, which made a nice change from a place I had stayed in in Beijing where the old cigarette smell had lingered in our room.

Pool was nicely sized - both sauna & steam room in ladies changing room. My son reported a jacuzzi & cold plunge from the men's.

Staff were quite friendly - morning and evening buffet a good standard, especially for Western China.

It is fairly centrally located. The taxi from the airport was less than 45 RMB, to the airport ~ 55 RMB (but that included expressway toll).

Taxis to sites like Dufu's Thatched Cottage - ~ 15 RMB.

My kids (9 and 11) enjoyed this hotel. After seeing sites & getting used to the streets of Chengdu, it was a nice for them to be able to relax in a western-type environment, swim, & watch English language TV to wind-down before sleep.

We came to Chengdu as a part of our 3 week tour of China with 2 adults and 3 twelve year olds. Our main mission was panda viewing. The Sheraton Chengdu was in the centre of the city and well placed. Taxis were plentiful and cheap. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. The gym and pool was very good. The breakfast was one of the best that we had during our stay in China. The room was clean and well appointed and the public areas were nicely maintained.

Nice hotel in the middle of a very large and dirty city. Stayed on concierge level and took 10 minutes at the preferred desk to get me checked in. Lobby is filled with lots of staff opening doors and scurrying around.

Not much to do in the area at all. Lots of small stores nearby, massage parlors and people looking to sell things and people to tourists for the right price.

Next door to sports stadium and olympic swimming pools that I overlooked from my room on the 28th floor.

Room was small compared to others the past 2 weeks I spent in Asia.

Be careful of people driving in town. road markers and lines are taken as suggestions and not rules to follow.

We stayed for two nights in this hotel. We were looking for something comfortable and close to the centre of the city. Previous reviews looked positive and so we went with it. Our stay there was pleasant enough, but on balance I don't think it provides good value for money and I would not stay there again.

We arrived at around 6.30 pm. Following our flight we were looking forward to relaxing and showers. I was very surprised to find out that our room was not ready. Some of the staff were unhelpful (although not all!), one of the room keys didn't work initially, food and drink is over-priced (and not so good) and the beds were a bit hard. On balance none of this is serious, but I was expecting more from a Sheraton hotel and the room was not cheap. In addition to this the hotel is still a good 10 minutes to the city centre.

If we visit again we will stay somewhere different.

Great hotel, excellent service and very clean. We stayed on the executive floor and the overall experience was very good. If you do not speak mandarin make sure you ask the concierge to write down the name of the hotel for you before you adventure out.

Stayed at the hotel in May for 2 nights. The room was not ready when we arrived. Not a problem. Went to have lunch in the Chinese restaurant. The restaurant did take a long time to serve us. Perhaps they were told to take their time since the room was being prepared. Either way, gave us time to relax. The restaurants at the hotel are overpriced. The drinks at the bar are very good. The beds are comfortable and rooms are very clean. The pool is nice. It's enclosed with glass but that's nice due to all the smog. Chengdu is one of the smoggiest cities I traveled through. In fact, almost all cities in China are very smoggie. Makes you appreciate all the areas that are clean. China definitely needs to go green. The Chengdu airport is very clean and lots of english translation. Taxi ride to hotel was about 30 minutes and costs us $43RNB. Leo at the concierge desk was very helpful and spoke very well english. For dinner we were told to go to Qing Tai Rd where many restaurants are. Lots of Hot Pot restaurants. Tough to get a taxi back to hotel from Qing Tai Rd as everyone needs one and fights for them. Had to walk a couple of blocks to get a taxi. Went to Leshan the next morning. The drive is about 2 hours and takes you through the country side. We paid $700RNB for all day taxi. The entrance fee to the big budda park in Leshan is $110RNB. Very expensive. Spent a couple of hours there. The temple on the backside is nice but there are many steps to get to it. Plan to be in Leshan all day. After Leshan we went to Mt Emei. It's a very nice park but you have to walk it most of the way. The drive from Leshan took about 35 minutes. Our taxi driver didnt speak english so had a hard time communicating. On the way back to hotel from Mt Emei our taxi driver decided to take a back way and we got to see how people really live. We also took some wrong turns as our taxi didnt really know his way around. Finally, made it back to the toll road. Our taxi also broke down when we got into town. Luckily, we were in town already and were able to hop on another taxi right away. The next morning went to see the Panda Reserve. Its about 35 minutes from hotel through the city. Taxi costs us $50RNB per hour. The entrance fee is 30RNB to the reserve. We got there before 8am to see the pandas get fed as they only eat in the mornings. The panda reserve is a great experience. Would recommend it. The ride back to the airport was $70RNB. The taxi refused to use the meter. Found out it was because he wanted us to pay the r/t toll charge. Chinese to try rip off the tourist whenever they can.

The Sheraton was a lovely hotel to stay at. The English was quite good by those we spoke too, and we found the service was superb!

Rooms were very nice and had everything we needed.

My only complaint is the coffee wasn't hot enough - but I found that in China overall... nothing to cry over though.

Loved our time in Chengdu - and the Sheraton was a lovely oasis to come home too after a hectic day dodging the chaotic traffic!!

T :-)

This was my first time in Chengdu and I stayed in the hotel two nights for business.

Executive floor check in was quick and painless even at 9pm. The receptionist definitely had an above average command of the English language which was a welcome surprise.

My room was large and comfortable. You can't have anything but love for Sheraton's "Sweet Sleeper" beds - make sure to ask if your room has this when checking into any Sheraton in the PRC. French press coffee was a nice touch to the free items. Laundry was returned quickly, even when it was marked as normal return. The bathroom was immaculate and very modern.

My only criticism is that I must have waited 5 ~ 8 minutes this morning just to get a elevator to go six floors to the top for the executive breakfast (which was your typical, quality western spreads). I don't think there is anything the hotel can do about it as it is a engineering / queue problem...meh

Finally - if your looking for good food outside the hotel, pre or post bars, ask the concierge to give you taxi directions for "Gingko Restaurant ". It starts serving tasty (and clean) Cantonese / Dim Sum around 8:30pm and stays hopping till 5am.

Chengdu is a pretty chaotic place caught up in overwhelming development. But this hotel is a quiet highrise escape from that -- even though navigating the traffic-clogged streets around it is a challenge. The hotel has all the modern conveniences, and yet retains an aura of caring about its guests. We stayed there twice -- for a total of six nights -- and found it very congenial indeed! Everything was excellent! The concierge was particularly helpful with suggestions concerning travel arrangements to sites, restaurants, and so on. The staff here really seemed to care about the guests!

We visited the Sheraton Chengdu (2 adults, two kids) before Christmas. The service is very good, the staff well trained. The room was agreeable. The hotel is not very stylish, relying on a selection of brownish and yellowish colors. The hotel is lacking a bar and a reasonable restaurant selection, the breakfast choice is reasonable but limited. The hotel is not located in a shopping or night-life area, though both can easily be reached by taxi.

Overall a good choice, but missing the final five star touch.

Whilst the general accomodation/facilities are little more than standard international 5* (although still excellent, clean, comfortable etc...there is even a Louis Vuitton store in the lobby!), it is the service that makes this place amongst Sichuan's best hotels. In particular, the concierge service will write out instructions to drivers in Mandarin, and/or locate drivers and obtain truly good (considering we were foreigners) prices. It is in an excellent location for downtown Chengdu, and the Panda Reserve, Leshan Giant Buddha and other regional attractions (including the legendary Sichuanese cuisine) make interesting day-trips.

We stayed here during a 10 day family tour of China. Before arriving at the Sheraton in Chengdu, we had stayed in a range of hotels--western owned, Chinese owned, modern and not-so-modern.

It was such a relief to walk into the beautiful lobby, enter a room that was immaculate (with clean carpets to boot--which is not a standard in China) and comfortable. Rooms, beds, bathrooms were just terrific.

The buffet dinner was very very good--my son was happy to have a couple of well prepared Western breakfast options. They were a bit slow with the service in the restaurant, especially with delivering cappucinos in the morning.

Beware that laundry rates, unlike many hotels in China, are comparable to a hotel in New York. My brother-in-law was able to ask the concierge to have the hotel send the laundry out to a local cleaner at 25% of the hotel's rate. The concierge was happy to oblige.

Service was very good. We found that staff to be quite accomodating. I speak Chinese, but members of our travelling party do not, but this was not an issue.

The pool is wonderful--clean, refreshing and set with a view of the city. Given the heat during our visit, it was perfect.

I stayed here April 2006, and even booking 6 weeks in advance I got the last nonsmoking room - they are a very busy hotel. I can confirm they were full on a Wed/Thurs because my bathroom smelt like something died in it, and I wanted to change rooms, which they couldn't do.

So first the bad: the beds (even on Executive floor and even after complaint) were EXTREMELY hard, but that is a China-wide problem I was yet to realise. Also, it seems no hotel in China provides you with little UHT milk packets for tea/coffee - this hotel doesn't even provide whitening sachets. And the smell in my bathroom - just luck of the draw I guess.

But all that aside, the quality of the furnishings was excellent, the rooms were very clean, the service was fantastic. I was very impressed and would stay here again in an instant. It is very central and (at least on Executive floor) certainly of 5 star level. Breakfast in Executive lounge was very diverse and had all the western staples.

Taxi here from the airport should be about 65-70Y in non peak times.

Also, I came to Chengdu only to go out to the Panda research base. After pushing for a taxi price instead of hotel car, i was able to hire a taxi at 40Y/hr to take me out there (about 30min drive), sit there for 1.5 hrs whilst I looked around, and then drive me back. Very time efficient and very cheap compared to other Chinese cities (which are still cheap!).

Sichuan is the hometown of giant pandas and famous for its spicy and numb local dishes. (why numb? -- You should find it yourself!) It is really one of the must-visit cities in China. However, what makes most tourists from developed counties worried about (I am a Japanese expatriate currently living in Beijing) is "Can I find a hotel to survive there?" -- No Problem! If you stay at Sheraton, you will definitely feel very safe. The hotel, a newly built high-rise, is immaculate and equipped with many internationally standard amenities. The front desk staffs are courteous and well-trained enough to speak English. (I still can not speak Chinese very well.) The breakfast buffet includes both western and local dishes. The price for two cost us just US$90 a night, which was a bargain to me. But still, it is one of the most expensive hotels in Chengdu. After you secure a safe haven, you can venture as far as you want in sightseeing, shopping, dining, and night clubbing etc.

I stayed two nights at the Sheraton Lido in Chengdu November 18 and 19. Based on a Trip Advisor recommendation, I booked an Executive Deluxe Room which was on an upper floor (great view of the city) and access to the executive lounge and buffet breakfast. The room and bath were spacious, very clean, and quiet. It was peaceful and enjoyable to have breakfast in the executive lounge, though breakfast selections were fewer than those at the second floor restaurant. I was surprised that tea and coffee were not available in my room, but I was able to get complimentary beverages (both alcoholic and otherwise) in the executive lounge. I was not there during the high tourist season, but would absolutely recommend this hotel and the executive rooms for those who plan to be in Chengdu during the busy tourist season.

Sheraton Lido was a good stop in Chengdu. Centrally located. It was nicer than average USA Sheraton. Rooms were large with excellent amenities. Big bathroom, comfortable beds, good lighting & lightning fast shoe shining service. We were on the Club Floor and the club lounge was lovely & morning breakfast was large & excellent.

Club Lounge also had a computer w/internet...but only one, so you had to find a time it was empty (a bigger business center was downstairs). Hotel is huge and caters to loads of groups & tourists, but we felt quiet and comfortable on Club Floor and in Club Lounge. Service was excellent.
