Stayed here for three nights.

Room very nice; got a corner room. Prize I had to pay was that the room was awfully cold. Called technician but was told that A/C could only do cold this time of the year. Staff were swift to bring around a heater but using the heat function of the A/C would have been so much nicer. Shame for a brand-new place.

Talking about staff, I did not feel at all that they were knowledgeable in English. Was struggling with staff at the reception and even more on the phone. Generally, I felt that service standards were not on par with stars that this property has.

Breakfast place is nice but quite weird with the Middle Eastern feature in the midst of Sichuan province, China.

I stayed here for three nights for work and had a very peaceful time here. The staff speaks wonderful English - and other languages - and are helpful and prompt with every request. Wake up calls were on time and sent automatically, cabs were on demand, and bartenders at the bar were hilarious.

The breakfast and dinner buffets are pretty uninspired but I never eat at hotel restaurants any way so you shouldn't expect much. Chengdu is in Sichuan province - among the most famous food in the world - why would you eat in the hotel?

Room was very spacious and had a fantastic view. Automatic night and day curtains were a nice touch. The mini-bar was overpriced (shocker, I know). Shower had nice strong handheld and overhead "waterfall" style spouts.

It's right on the river and by a very famous bridge and pagoda. There are some great small bars and kareoke across the river and lots of delicious street food stalls to serve the drunken revelry.

As with many fancy places in Asia and China, the hotel's bar seems to attract a certain groups of ladies who are looking to meet people. Pretty standard at high end hotels and Shangri La is no different. Not aggressive at all.

Great place. Very relaxing and nice to know the one thing you don't have to sweat in Chengdu is your hotel. What you do have to worry about, however, is the traffic and some of the drivers, but that's another story.

I have stayed in 3 hotels in Chengdu during the month of June, 2008. Of these 3 hotels The Shangri-La was by far the best. Best location, best resturaunts, and best accomidations.

I stayed at the Shangri-La Chengdu after my travel plans beyond Chengdu were aborted due to the Sichuan Earthquake. The facility and it's management were exceptional. I was especially impressed with the steps taken by management to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests following the quake by doing a complete facility inspection before allowing people to go to their rooms.

We were unable to enjoy several of the features of the hotel due to the quake, but it's safe to say that our greatest hardship was that the Guinness beer tap in the Irish pub within the hotel was damaged... so no Guinness for us!

The rooms were nice and large and the internet was fast. Beds were comfortable.

Overall, a well managed hotel in a great location.

The hotel is great and the staff is world class. The location is perfect for Chengdu. It's just far enough from the city center to miss the congestion, but close enough to reach easily. It has the best restaurant set-up that I have seen. There are 9 separate ethnic food choices within one space. You can choose one or try all of them as a buffet. I also liked the option to use an ATM right on site. There are two banks located on site in the annex that connects the two towers. There is also a Bently car dealer showroom about to open in the annex. One of the most picturesque buildings, just across the street, houses a famous restaurant. The building spans the river, and is a must see attraction. There are several other good local restaurants within easy walking distance. Two major rivers join less than a block from the hotel and the area has special significance to many in China.

I spent almost a week at this hotel and I have nothing but good things to say about my experience.

It was my first time in Chengdu, so I chose a hotel chain that I have a lot of faith in - and wasn't disappointed. The Shangri-La is a beautiful hotel. The entrance is certainly very grand, up a private ramp with a florally decorated middle section reminiscent of the carved stone areas above which ancient Emperor's palanquins were borne.

The customer service, as always, was top notch, and they seemed to be expecting me, instead of treating me quizzically like an alien at some other hotels. They gave me, by chance a beautiful 1-room suite, and it was absolutely beautiful. It was so nice I didn't really want to mess up the bed! The 3 TVs were probably OTT (including a small flat screen you can watch from the bath) but my goodness it was something else.

Also the hotel had wonderful views - it directly faces the river, with some old traditional buildings nearby, and what looked to be a thriving restaurant and nightlife area across the far bank. I didn't explore but it seemed to be a fun place to go if one wanted something outside of the hotel.

It was the best thing about my stay in Chengdu (a pretty city, shame about the pollution) and won't stay anywhere else unless the Shangri-La is full.

We stayed at the Shangri-La Chengdu in August for 7 nights. This was our first trip to China and we were quite pleased when we walked into this hotel and found it to be worthy of a 5 star rating. The inside of the hotel is beautiful. The service was wonderful. It appeared that everyone on the staff could speak some English and they all went out of their way to be helpful. The hotel was a wonderful haven to return to after a day of exploration. Be sure to try Cafe-Z. It is buffet style dining with food from various countries.
